21.01.2022 To all of our wonderful pet owners and referring veterinarians, We wanted to ensure that everyone is aware that Advanced Vetcare is continuing to provide Specialist and Emergency services as normal. We have implemented increased social distancing and hygiene measures within the hospital to protect our staff and community. Official statement from Agricultural Minister to the Victorian Veterinarians: "The Federal Government considers the role of veterinarians essential to the agricultural sector and therefore to our nation’s food security but also in protecting companion animals and our nation’s wildlife. The Federal Government has not put any restrictions on veterinarians other than the practice of social distancing and hygiene practices during the COVID-19 crisis." We hope everyone is staying safe and enjoying extra time at home with their furry ones!

17.01.2022 We want to wish Bonnie a very happy 1st birthday! She is truly one of our VIPPs (Very Important Puppy Patient), as she has already clocked up 5 surgeries with 2 of our surgical specialists, Dr Kirsten Deruddere and Dr Joycelyn Tran, to treat bilateral elbow deformity (radial head luxation) & a ruptured cranial cruciate ligament. She has also been in the care of the Specialist Internal Medicine team with Dr Amanda Ciavarella for investigation and treatment of gastrointe...stinal disease during this time. She is truly a special girl and even after all of these visits, still manages to give us a tail wag! We would love to see your special pet's birthday photos in the comments

16.01.2022 *FEEL GOOD FRIDAY* Let us introduce you to the loveable Hungarian Vizsla, Gus the 5mo puppy whose owner brought him in to see our Emergency Department when his owners found he had difficulty breathing at home. He was found to have a rupture in his left lung lobe which was treated by our Specialist Surgery team with removal of a portion of his lung lobe. Our ICU team took exceptional care of little Gus over 5 days with around the clock 24 hour medical care (plus extra cuddle...s as required from all vet nurses and vets in the hospital), until he was back to his playful puppy self and discharged back home into 5 star nursing care with his puppy parents. He has made a full recovery and we can't wait for Gus to return back to his cheeky puppy life! His loving puppy parents have sent us these heart warming photos to show Gus recovering at home. What a perfect way to start the weekend! **Let us know in the comments below if you have any creative ways that you have kept your pet entertained in their recovery**

16.01.2022 Shoutout to Yukon's dad and mum for their creativity and devotion to his recovery after his Triple Pelvic Osteotomy to treat his hip dysplasia. This surgery was performed by our Specialist Surgeon Dr Joycelyn Tran to improve the stability of his hip joint and to slow down progression of osteoarthritis long term. This was diagnosed by the team at Greensborough Veterinary Hospital who look after Yukon for all of his health needs. He was such a good boy in hospital with our nu...rses and vets, and at already 45kg and only 9 months of age, he is sure to be a big boy! We can't wait to see him back for his rechecks, and hope that dad gets some freedom as well when Yukon's recovery is over! **Thank you to Yukon's Mum, Donna for sending through these very cute pictures**

15.01.2022 Thank you Angela for sending through this lovely feel good video of Maple running on the beach! She had a Tibial Plateau Leveling Osteotomy performed by Dr David Hall in November 2018 and since then has returned to enjoying her life pain free

15.01.2022 The very cute Milo was treated by our Surgical Specialist, Dr Joycelyn Tran last week after sustaining a prolapsed spinal disc in his neck. This squashed his spinal cord almost 70% in his neck and was causing Milo to have trouble with walking, and caused him pain. After a CT scan, surgical decompression was performed to alleviate the squashing of his spinal cord and after a stay with our ICU team, he was taken home by his loving mum for 5 star nursing care at home! Advanced... Vetcare is proud to support Pet Medical Crisis who financially assisted Milo's mum during this difficult time. 09.01.2022 Today we have the very special story of Homer, the loveable 2 year old Dogue de Bordeaux. We first met Homer when he was 6 months old and he became sore in his front legs after playing at the beach. His mum, Bridie brought him in to see our Specialist Surgery team who diagnosed him with Incomplete Ossification of his Humeral Condyles (IOHC), a congenital disease where the bones in his elbows did not fuse normally and are at an increased risk of fracture and cause pain.... Our Specialist Surgery Team were able to treat his IOHC by placing 2 screws using a minimally invasive technique where only 2 small approaches were required (smaller scars than desexing) and he continued to grow up into a happy, big boy on his farm. Fast forward 18 months, and Homer's mum noticed he was sore again on his front left leg. He was seen at our Geelong Animal Emergency Hospital where a CT was performed by our specialist team there, and a bone tumour (osteosarcoma) was found in his left front leg. The very brave Homer had a left front leg amputation and his mum and dad reported that he was back to his farm duties in no time! Since then, Homer has been in the care of our Oncology team who have been providing chemotherapy for him (and lots of hugs at the same time). We don't need to wish Homer a speedy recovery (he has already checked that one off ), but we wanted to share his beautiful story with you all to see how well our Veterinary patients can do with amputation & chemotherapy. Thank you for always brightening our day when you visit the hospital, Homer! You are a champion patient!

03.01.2022 This is our beautiful oncology patient Princess. She had been having back problems since November 2019 and lost the ability to walk on her hind limbs in January 2020 (see pre-treatment video in the comments). A CT scan revealed multiple areas of bone loss throughout her spine and ribs and further testing confirmed an uncommon cancer, multiple myeloma. Under the expert guidance of our Specialist Oncologist, Dr Laura Brockley, Princess started a tablet form of chemotherapy... at the end of January and after the second chemotherapy tablet in the first cycle of treatment, she regained her ability to walk! Her fabulous owner, Trish, has given her so much love and support along with dietary modifications, acupuncture and supplements. Princess is now loving life again and is able to run around and play! We are so happy for Princess and Trish, particular as this is Trish’s fourth dog to undergo cancer treatment!
