We have loved having you all back and more committed than ever! A huge congratulations to Morjana for an impressive 27 visits for the month taking out the win for the ladies, well done! Your commitment is second to none.... For the boys, Ryan Sims finished on a big 24 visits for the month, congratulations mate. It was a close finish for all the ladies and guys in November so a big WELL DONE to you all, keep up the great work!

23.01.2022 A family that trains together, laughs together These legends signed up and jumped straight into a tough circuit quickly put together by a staff member and they smashed it! In fact, they enjoyed it so much, they came in the next day and set up the same circuit and went even harder AND they brought a friend along ... Sometimes it pays off to get out of our comfort zones and try something new. No one ever regrets a good session, right?

22.01.2022 AUGUST CHALLENGE - MAX SIT-UPS IN 2 MINUTES. Not only are we super impressed with the numbers up on the board but also to see all those who gave it a go while the gym is closed. A fantastic effort by all (even the staff gave it a go this month!). Congratulations to Jakara for taking it out for the ladies, always giving it a good crack and smashing out 83 however you were closely followed by Kath Byrne on a remarkable 70! Top effort ladies!... And to the winner of the Men, Joshua James, what a legend for giving this a go reaching 23 sit ups and representing the men for August. 17.01.2022 Encouraging news for Victorian gyms - fitness facilities and gyms are looking likely to re-open on 26th of October We’re waiting for further information to come through relating to this exciting development. However, we have now been included with a lot of other industries that are allowed to reopen on the 26th of October if numbers are met. Regional Victoria gyms may even be able to open sooner! We don’t know the extent of the restrictions that will be required for... re-opening but we’ll keep everyone posted as soon as we know more . We know gyms can open and operate safely with a robust COVID-Safe plan in place. We have successfully achieved this in Queensland with the endorsement and state-wide implementation of a Fitness Australia-led Fitness Industry COVID Safe Plan and need to make this a priority in Victoria. 16.01.2022 Do you get to the end of the night after a long day and just want to relax with a cup of tea and a biscuit? We do! That is why we went on the hunt for some simple and tasty cookies we could make that were not full of refined sugar and additives!! BEHOLD... Healthy DOUBLE chocolate cookies with only 54 calories per piece ... This recipe was found by one of our staff members and she gives them a 10/10!! Ingredients: 2 large eggs 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract 1 tablespoon vegan butter or coconut oil 1/4 cup raw honey 1/4 cup dark 70% chocolate chips (we used Noshu chocolate chips) 1 1/3 cups spelt flour or gluten free all purpose baking flour 2 tablespoons raw cocoa powder or regular cocoa powder 1 teaspoon baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/2 teaspoon salt Method: Preheat oven to 175. In a bowl whisk eggs and vanilla. In a small saucepan melt butter (or coconut oil) with the dark chocolate chips and the honey. Add the melted chocolate mixture to the egg mixture and whisk until combined. Add in dry ingredients (flour, cocao powder baking powder and soda, and salt), and stir until a smooth cookie batter is achieved. Cover a baking pan with parchment paper. Scoop tablespoon sized portions of the batter into balls and press down lightly to flatten. Bake cookies for 8 minutes until just puffy. Let cool completely then drizzle with some melted chocolate chips if you like Feel free to let our staff members taste test them

16.01.2022 CHOCOLATE BROWNIES Brownies are always one of those "treats" that disappear very, very quickly! But the poison is in the dose (and the often used refined ingredients such as flour and sugar). Here is a healthier alternative to the traditional brownie but just as gooey and delicious because we should still be able to enjoy the finer things in life, right?... Prep: 10 mins ( +2 hours for cool and set) Cook: 30 mins Ingredients 200 g raw dark chocolate (at least 80% cacao, with no refined sugar). chopped. 185 ml (3/4 cup) coconut oil 3 tablespoon cacao powder, plus 2 tablespoons extra to dust 6 eggs, separated 300 g honey 200 g (2 cups) walnuts, toasted and roughly chopped. Preheat oven to 160 degrees. Grease an 18 cm x 28 cm baking tin and line base with baking paper Combine the chocolate, coconut oil and cacao powder in a heatproof bowl set over (but not touching ) a saucepan of just simmering water. Stir the chocolate mixture occasionally with a spatula until melted and smooth. Remove from the heat and set aside to cool slightly. Meanwhile, combine the egg yolks and 175 g of the honey in a bowl and beat on high speed with an electric mixer until doubled in size and fluffy. Fold the egg yolk mixture into the chocolate mixture with a metal spoon. Whisk the egg whites and the remaining honey in a large bowl until soft peaks form. Fold the egg whites mixture into the chocolate mixture until well incorporated then gently fold in the walnuts Pour the brownie mixture into the prepared tin and level the top with a palette knife. Bake for 30 minutes, or until a skewer inserted in the centre of the mixture comes out clean. The brownie will puff up a little during cooking. Allow to cool completely in the tin, then pop in fridge for 2 hours before cutting. Dust with cacao powder and serve. These will keep in fridge in an airtight container for up to 5 days. Enjoy x

16.01.2022 OMG!!! We are OBSESSED with this chocolate mousse recipe we found and we know you are going to love it too!!! It is very quick and easy to make, it is super healthy AND includes your good fats and carbs to make for the PERFECT after dinner snack!! INGREDIENTS... * 2 ripe avocados, skin and stone removed * 1/2 cup cacao or Naked Chocolate * 1/2 cup organic pure maple syrup - no added sugars * 1/2 cup coconut cream * 1/4 cup cold-pressed coconut oil * 1 teaspoon vanilla bean extract * Pinch of sea salt METHOD * Combine avocado, Naked Chocolate, maple syrup, coconut cream, coconut oil, vanilla and sea salt. * Blend until smooth and creamy. * Divide into serving glasses and refrigerate for 2 - 3 hours to chill completely or enjoy immediately if you can't wait that long . * Decorate with whipped coconut cream or mascarpone, then garnish with freeze-dried or fresh raspberries.

15.01.2022 Introducing our Member Of The Month....Bek Coonerty Bek joined Advance Fitness Northside in May 2019 initially to lose weight for her wedding later in the year and to help with some underlying health issues. Bek says I knew that I had to make some drastic changes to my current lifestyle and knew the working out at the gym was going to play a huge role What she didn’t know was that she was going to lose almost 20kgs!! Bek says that when she signed up at Advance Fitness..., she discussed her goals with staff saying we discussed sticking to a training and nutrition plan to reduce my weight and to improve my mobility and endurance and that is exactly what I have done. You certainly have Bek and it has been an absolute pleasure to watch your amazing transformation. While some of us have struggled with the gym being closed due to COVID-19, Bek took everything she had learnt at the gym and made do with what equipment and resources she had at home to keep her on track focusing on 10k steps per day and saying it’s been a massive accomplishment to fit in work, raising a family, working out and eating better and to be happy while doing it, its been a lifestyle change for me, not just about weight loss. Bek is very happy to be back in her routine at the gym though and using her favourite pieces of equipment. We asked Bek what she likes most about training at Advance Fitness and she says The thing I like about training here is the friendly atmosphere. I can train when I like, the staff are very encouraging and I don’t feel intimidated by others. Attach a rope to the cable station’s high pulley.... 2. Grab the handle with an overhand grip, keeping your arms bent and your hands shoulder-width apart. 3. Tuck your upper arms toward your sides. 4. Keeping your upper arms fixed in place, push the bar down until your elbows are locked. 5. Return to the starting position and repeat. 10.01.2022 HEALTHY LUNCHBOX FRITTATA PROTEIN CARBS FATS ... INGREDIENTS 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil 250g packet sweet potato noodles 250g packet zucchini noodles, drained 2 tomatoes, chopped 2 garlic cloves, finely chopped 2 green shallots, trimmed, thinly sliced 1/2 cup shredded fresh basil leaves, plus extra to serve 8 large eggs 20g (1/4 cup) finely grated parmesan 125g feta, cut into thin slices, halved 1 tablespoon pepitas METHOD Step 1 Heat the oil in a 19cm (base measurement) 24cm (top measurement) ovenproof frying pan over medium-high heat. Add the sweet potato noodles to the pan and cook, stirring often, for 8 minutes or until softened. Add the zucchini to the pan and cook, stirring often for 3-5 minutes or until the sweet potato is tender. Add the tomatoes, garlic and shallot and cook for a further 2 minutes. Stir through the basil. Use a slotted spoon to transfer to a bowl. Step 2 Preheat the oven to 170C /150C fan forced. Whisk together the eggs with 2 tablespoons water. Season. Stir through half of the parmesan. Pour the egg mixture into the frying pan. Top with the noodle mixture. Arrange the feta on top. Sprinkle with pepitas and remaining parmesan. Cook on the stove top for 5 mins. Transfer to the oven and cook for 15-20 minutes, or until the eggs are set. Serve with extra basil leaves. Perfect for breaky, lunch or dinner!

07.01.2022 Exercise Training Tip - Split Squats This exercise is fantastic for targeting the quads, glutes, and even hamstrings to some degree. A big thanks to Jordan for participating in this post! ... Step 1. Find a stable implement and place the front foot far enough way so the hips can sit into a single-leg squat position without the front foot coming off the ground. Step 2. Slightly brace and sit into the hole thinking about bringing the hips straight up and down as if they’re on a string. Keep the torso neutral or slightly leaned forward and allow the knee to track without allowing the heel to lift off the ground. Step 3. Drive through the front leg and press directly down into the ground contracting the quad. Keep the hips inline and travel directly upwards while maintaining tension throughout the quad. Grip the floor with the front foot.

This is a great day out in the sun soaking up some Vitamin D, exercising with friends and family or simply taking a leisurely stroll around the beautifully designed themed gardens. While we eagerly await a re-open date, now is the perfect time to get outside with the family. So chuck on your sneakers, pack a drink bottle and sweat it out on the hills!... 05.01.2022 GROUP FITNESS TIMETABLE FROM MONDAY 23RD NOVEMBER We have some exciting news for our Group Fitness program with government restrictions further easing from the 23rd of November More classes will be reintroduced to the Group Fitness timetable.... Participation limits will be increasing Classes will be able to return to our indoor Group Fitness studios. Body Pump, RPM, Quick Fit and Water Aerobics classes will be re-launched. Along with the return of Water Aerobics, the pool will also be available for casual member use. Booking will still be required for all Group Fitness classes through the Gym Master app and is available 7 days in advance. 04.01.2022 Who LOVES chocolate brownies but hates the guilt after eating them?? Look no further because we have tried and tested these gooey sweet potato brownies for you and trust us.... They are AHMAZING!! Ingredients: 1 cup sweet potato purée 2/3 cup maple syrup... 1/2 cup almond butter or peanut butter 1 tsp pure vanilla extract 1 Tbsp avocado oil (or sub melted vegan butter, melted coconut oil, or olive oil) 1/2 cup cocoa powder or cacao powder 1/4 tsp sea salt 1 tsp baking powder 2/3 cup oat flour 1/2 cup chopped raw pecans or walnuts 1/4 cup dairy-free chocolate chips (optional) Method: Pre-heat your oven to 176 C and line an 88-inch baking pan (or similar-size pan) with baking paper. In a large mixing bowl, add sweet potato purée, maple syrup, almond butter, vanilla extract, and avocado oil and stir to combine. Add cacao powder, sea salt, and baking powder and stir to combine. Then add oat flour and stir until a thick, scoopable batter is achieved. Transfer batter to your baking dish and spread into an even layer then top with pecans and chocolate chips (optional). Bake on the center rack for 28-32 minutes. The brownie edges should appear slightly dry and a toothpick inserted into the center should come out mostly clean. 01.01.2022 "COVID FAT"...I'm sure you've heard it being thrown around a bit of late...right? A lot of us are less active, less motivated and just doing our best and for most of us, our healthy food choices may have taken a back seat. But its not all bad news! You are probably cooking more, eating out less and trying new recipes? This is a great time to be getting into some 'healthy habits' and planning your meals for the week before heading to the grocery store (see the template pinned... to the top of this page). Below is a quick, easy, healthy dinner/lunch that is a perfect balance of protein, carbs and healthy fats. I like to call it "The Healthy Taco"! Ingredients: Baby cos lettuce Chicken/turkey mince (seasoned with your favourite herbs and spices) Red capsicum (chopped finely) zucchini (chopped finely) Spring onion Fresh chilli (optional) Vermicelli noodles Method: Wash and pat dry lettuce leaves - sit aside Fry mince with herbs and spices (paprika, dried chiili flakes, turmeric, salt and pepper) Cook your vermicelli noodles as per packet instructions and once cooked and rinsed, place a small amount on the lettuce cup followed by mince. Top with fresh chilli and and spring onion. Enjoy!
