24.01.2022 NUTRITION TIP ----------------TOP 10 HEALTHY EATING HABITS------------------- 1. Choose good carbs, not no carbs. Whole grains are your best bet.... 2. Pay attention to the protein package. Fish, poultry, nuts, and beans are the best choices. 3. Choose foods with healthy fats, limit foods high in saturated fat, and avoid foods with trans fat. Plant oils, nuts, and fish are the healthiest sources. 4. Choose a fiber-filled diet, rich in whole grains, vegetables, and fruits. 5. Eat more vegetables and fruits. Go for color and varietydark green, yellow, orange, and red. 6. Calcium is important. But milk isnt the only, or even best, source. Try green leafy vegetables too. 7. Water is best to quench your thirst. Skip the sugary drinks, and go easy on the milk and juice. 8. Eating less salt is good for everyones health. Choose more fresh foods and fewer processed foods. 9. Moderate drinking can be healthybut not for everyone. You must weigh the benefits and risks. 10. A daily multivitamin is a great nutrition insurance policy. Some extra vitamin D may add an extra health boost.

18.01.2022 Training tip of the week As the weather is heating up and the sun is shining I wanted to give you examples of why exercise is so important! Here's a couple of reasons why you should exercise....... 1. It can save your life-really! Regularly doing cardio and strength training reduces your risk of heart disease, diabetes, and endometrial, colon, and breast cancers. The American Heart Association recommends exercising for 30-60 minutes on most days to reduce your risk of heart disease. 2. You'll feel less stressed and happier. Exercise has been proven to improve your mood and decrease anxiety. Studies show that the fitter you are, the better you'll be at handling the long-term effects of stress. One moderately intense 50-minute aerobic workout has been shown to significantly lower anxiety levels. And a study in the British Journal of Sports Medicine found that exercise may be more effective than drugs in treating mild to moderate depression. 3. It strengthens your bones. Exercise increases bone density, helping prevent osteoporosis. High-intensity activity, like jumping and running, is most beneficial for preserving bone mass. 4. Improves your sleep. 18.01.2022 JOIN US IN CONGRATULATING OUR MEMBER OF THE MONTH.... -------------------Sean Kevan----------------------- "Live, life love"... Sean joined our gym 4 years ago and has been a regular member ever since. Sean definitely adds some sass to the gym and we love him! The main reason for him joining was because of the awesome personal trainers eg Malachii Schofield and when asked if he had any reservations about joining he said "Zilch! I heard so many good things about the gym so no, I had no hesitations in joining" Sean's reason for joining and I quote "to look better than most.... Just kidding, to better myself" hehe. When he started his main goal was to become bigger. He realised that it wasn't about the sprint and didn't have a time limit but was just about doing little by little to reach his goal and at the time was trying to bulk #permabulk And how does Sean feel about achieving his results? "I feel fantastic! I'm looking good and feeling gorgeous" Although the training is great, Sean can't get past what he loves most about the gym and that is the people!! Especially his gym mum Shell Jeffery Future goals and motivation? "Continue to grow physically and mentally" And I stay motivated because I have a nice butt and I want to keep it that way haha" Seans words for anyone wanting to join are, Do it for you, not for others. 17.01.2022 PERSONAL TRAINER - CLIENT SHOUT OUT Time to give a huge shout out to our member Anna Todd. Back in 2018 Anna was apart of our 6 week strength camp. In this time she learned how to perform the three main compound exercises and smashed out some awesome PB's GO ANNA ... With the help and guidance of our trainers she went from a 55 kg dead lift to 110kg and a 45kg squat to 100kg!!!! Now she is back and kicking butt again!!!!! She has jumped back in with our PT, Hana and they are working on her impressive lifts and getting back to killin her PBs. Anna is a power house and has gained so much strength since coming back. Although Anna says Hana is pushy, she secretly loves it (except when its conditioning day) hehe Speaking to Anna she speaks very highly of Hana, she is what keeps me coming back, she makes it fun and she puts the ass in asspiration Hana Says, "Anna always shows up and is ready for a session. We laugh hard and work even harder" Congratulations to Anna on her progress so far and all the best on her future commitments woooo
15.01.2022 Equipment feature The GHD or (Glute, Hamstring developer) machine is exactly as its full name implies: a piece of equipment that can be used to strengthen (or develop) your glutes and hamstrings But you also have other ways of utilising this piece of equipment with sit ups and Back extensions.... While performing sit-ups and back extensions on a GHD, it’s a great way to develop core, back and hip-flexor strength. GHD Glute-Ham Raise (main) This exercise is all hamstrings and glutes, and a bit of calf too. How to use: 1. Adjust the machine so that when your feet are pressed against the foot pad, toes facing down, your knees hit the middle of the support pad. Start kneeling tall with your feet locked in and core engaged. 2. Keeping trunk in a neutral position (and without hinging at the hips), lower your entire upper body toward the floor, says Landry. Continue lowering until your torso is parallel with the ground. 3. Then, engage your hamstrings and glutes to pull yourself back up to start. 4. If you're new to the move, either have a spotter there to return you back to start or use your hands to push yourself back into the starting position, making it an eccentric exercise only. Back extension This posterior-chain strength exercise is the most beginner-friendly movement you can do on the machine, according to Wickham. "The primary muscle group it works is the glutes, but it also works the hamstrings, calves, and lower back Be careful not to lower your back to the point that you lose a neutral spine and start to round your lower back GHD Sit up GHD sit-ups put more load on the hip flexors, and they work your abdominal muscles through a greater range of motion than the classic ab movement. Incorporate GHD sit ups in to your routine slowely. If you don't have adequate mobility in your hips, your lower back has to compensate, which can lead to lower back pain so make sure your hips are not tight, Stretch them out! Come give these exercises a go! And See us at reception if you’re not sure.

A severe lack of protein can affect almost every part of the body’s function and lead to muscle wastage and a poor immune system. 07.01.2022 MEMBER SHOUT OUT Everyone welcome the beautiful Izzy Jacobson Izzy is one of our new members and has already made an impact on, not only our lovely members, but also our Advance team. She a positive human who is always striving to do the best she can in her fitness. Originally from Bathurst, she has always been a people person, and being away from her friends and family has been a hard process. Having a chat with Izzy, she has been telling how much she loves our gym.... "Since day one, I have had such a supportive network at Advance Fitness and I wouldn't have achieved as much as I have, in the short time, if it wasn't for this place" Izzy dove herself in to the classes saying that "the people are amazing! I feel accepted and apart of the fun, which has definitely kept me motivated to keep coming. Everyone is so welcoming" She says how the instructors are so friendly, encouraging and they push you to achieve more then you did last time. 06.01.2022 ----Equipment Feature---- As you may have seen in the gym one piece of our equipment is called the SMITH MACHINE........ This piece of equipment can be used in many ways, including lower body and upper body. The Smith Machine is great for learning form and technique but can be a very low impact on your body. 05.01.2022 Hypertrophy training Hypertrophy can be thought of as a thickening of muscle fibers, which occurs when the body has been stressed just the right amount to indicate that it must create larger, stronger muscles that can tolerate this new, increased load. For hypertrophy, you increase the training volume (more sets and reps) while slightly decreasing the intensity. A hypertrophy phase workout consists of exercises utilizing low to intermediate repetition ranges with progressive... overload. If youre time poor and really want to get bang for your buck, use compound lifts such as the big three performing the barbell chest press, Squats and Deadlifts at 75-85% of the one repetition maximum (1RM) with a rest period of 1-2 minutes. 04.01.2022 MEMBER ACHIEVEMENT OF THE MONTH Everyone meet the lovely, Jack Paton Jack has achieved two PBs with the help of one of our PTs Malachii! He has smashed his dead lift and his bench press in the last few months. His bench started at 30kg and in only 2 short months, hit 60kg! ... His dead lift started at 40kg and is now at 100kg!
