21.01.2022 We don't get a second chance to get this right. And the cost of inaction will be measured in Victorian lives. From midday today, Stage One of our response to c...oronavirus means that non-essential activities will be shut down. That includes pubs, clubs, gyms and cinemas and restricting restaurants and cafes to take-away and delivery only. I know we're asking a lot of people. But we wouldn't be doing this if it wasn't absolutely necessary. We're also bringing forward school holidays, with today being the last day of term for government schools. That'll give teachers the time they need to prepare for potential online learning in the weeks and months ahead. My heartfelt thanks goes out to all our teachers and school staff for their professionalism and dedication over the past few weeks. I know it hasn't been easy. But your role in maintaining some sense of normality in our kids' lives has made all the difference. I really can't stress enough how important it is that we all do the right thing here. All this action is meaningless if people choose to act selfishly and continue as normal. Call it mateship. Call it being a good Victorian. Call it your civic duty. I really don't mind. But please follow the rules. Pubs and bars are closed for a reason. It doesn't mean you can have all your mates round and get on the beers. As we've seen overseas, it only takes a single person at a party to make hundreds of people sick if not thousands. If you can stay home you should stay home. This is bigger than any one of us. But it will only work if all of us play our part. Do it for the people you love and the people you've never met. We can do this. We must.

16.01.2022 Immediate support for almost 700 local businesses and over 100 sporting clubs and community groups experiencing adverse impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic will be... implemented by Latrobe City Council A Business and Community Support package includes measures to boost the cashflow of local businesses as well as refunds, reductions and waivers of some permits, registrations and rents for businesses, sporting clubs and other community groups up to the end of June 2020. Mechanisms to ensure businesses can access important information about grants, programs and other supports are being established through a Business Help Desk and a COVID-19 e-newsletter. The COVID-19 business grants and programs page on Council’s website will continue and a COVID-19 Financial Hardship Policy is also being developed. Councillors conducted a business roundtable to gain feedback from local business associations as to what measures may immediately assist. Many of the measures in this package are what Council has been hearing from local business. We want to make sure we stay connected to our business community so that we can assist them where they need it. Council recognises local businesses are facing unprecedented uncertainty and while some have been able to adapt in innovative ways, for many this is not possible. We are committed to assisting our local business community in navigating this difficult period. To learn more about the supports Council is implementing, visit https://bit.ly/3cbh7bu

12.01.2022 Morning everyone. Just wanted to update you on last night's meeting of National Cabinet and what it means for our state. I know the majority of Victorians are d...oing the right thing by staying home but we're still seeing groups of people meeting up and carrying on as normal. This cannot continue. So from 11.59pm tonight, Victoria will introduce Stage 3 restrictions. Under these measures, there will only be four reasons to leave your house. For food and supplies. For exercise. For medical care. And for work and education if necessary. And just so we're clear: 'getting some exercise' means going for a walk round the block or a bike ride to stretch your legs and get some fresh air. It means staying local not driving for miles or being out all day. We've also closed skate parks, outdoor gyms and playgrounds. I know this will be tough especially on parents with little ones but we simply can't have people congregating in these areas. Under Stage 3, gatherings of more than two people will be off limits. That doesn't mean you should think "Great, I still have one mate round for beers at home and that's OK." It's really not. I know it's hard not to see friends. I know it's hard to be stuck at home all day. And I know this will ask a lot of Victorians. But we all need to be prepared and be patient because what we do now will literally save lives. There are thousands of Victorians on the front line of this pandemic. Doctors and nurses. Paramedics. Supermarket workers and delivery drivers. The Victorians driving our trams and trains and buses. The cleaners making sure our state is safe and hygienic. The scientists and researchers developing a vaccine. But the rest of us have an important job to do too. It's our role to help slow the spread of this virus so that fewer Victorians end up in intensive care. It's up to us to stop our health system from being overwhelmed. And the best way to do that is to stay home. I can't be much clearer than that. I'll be providing regular updates over the next couple of days, but in the meantime please remember this: It's one thing to thank our frontline workers and tell them how much they mean to us. But the real test is in our actions. If you value the hours and the effort they're putting in to keep us all safe: Stay home. Protect our health system. Save lives.
