25.01.2022 Always good to revisit your Grab & Run plan...which should actually be Grab & Run PLANS. Our Contents suggestions & Preparedness are in the attached photo. If you have a 30 minute warning you will have a different set of actions to what you’d do with a 2 minute warning. ... My plan ??!! ..MY plan starts at one end of the house & moves onwards the doors & the carport which are down the hall. HINTS for Grabbing/Packing 1: YOU are probably going to start near a bedroom - Doonas/Doona covers are great for use as carry sacks. In every bedroom you can use the doona cover/quilt/pillow slips to throw your stuff into. (start at the bed, PJs, & go for your Reg Grundies ((undies, for any non-Aussies), bedside medications & "treasures")......being able to recognise the doona will also help you know which room the contents came from. Sit them into wheelie-bin garbage bags if the weather demands it. Also 1(a): YOU will probably want bedding wherever you go. 2: Use Your Surroundings...do you have a balcony/path/ground outside the room ? Think about just putting each room’s bag straight out the window to be picked up from there. Saves double-handling ?(I know if it were me a couple of fly-screens would be hitting the dirt in a big hurry. And I would be reversing through the garden doing pick-up. 3: Do you have a trolley ?, or even a wheelbarrow ? A re-cycling wheelie-bin will probably be clean enough. YOU can only carry so many boxes at one time. (You can drag/tow multiple doonas !) With a trolley you can pull, it leaves you with one hand free. 4: Packing the car ?? Remember to pack last the things you may need fastest...First Aid Kit, a Tool-Box, your water & possibly energy bars/trail mix....I am a personal fan of chocolate chip bikkies (unless it’s chocolate-melting hot !!), maps ?? Entertainment for the kids, dog-water bottle, poo bags ?

25.01.2022 Spent all of this rainy day getting things ready for NEXT SATURDAY'S TANAWHA TRADING DAY. DOES YOUR DOG HAVE AN EMERGENCY KIT ???

24.01.2022 Prodigy Merchandise received a 2012 APPA Bronze Award for their Customer Loyalty Program. AS a recipient of a Prodigy wheeled travel bag & an Esky under that program, Advance Prep-Safe is making use of both items in our awareness raising campaigns. The wheeler bag is about to go travelling with Mr Grey Nomad & his partner, Ms Grey Nomad-in-Training, as their Emergency Kit ... watch for updates on any adventures !! The Esky is now starring in the photo on planning to Shelter in Place ... if the safest place in your home is under the bench, you need the important things in your life & a Prodigy Esky is the perfect, strong, secure item to shelter your medications, baby formula &, maybe, a beer. PRODIGY - A BAG & an ESKY, PROMOTING DISASTER PREPAREDNESS & SAFETY. .....................Thanks Girls

22.01.2022 We took a couple of bottles on Illuminated Water camping. it was great - not only did we have really nice drinking water but we could find it in the dark - & see our way around the campsite !

21.01.2022 A September Story Last September , Mr Grey Nomad (GN) & his partner, Ms Grey-Nomad-in-training (Ms GNIT) were in a caravan park in Alice Springs when the dog went beserk at 2am. He yelled at the dog to Get out of it you basd. In the morning when they got up they found that 4 neighbouring caravans had been broken into the adjacent van was mid-break-in when, apparently, the dog went off & a man yelled out ! The residents of those other vans lost their lap-tops, wallets,... handbags & mobile phones. The first things they had to do that morning were to cancel all their credit & ATM cards, freeze their mobile phones & internet accounts, and notify the theft of their passports & pension cards !. Fortunately their car & house keys had been at the other ends of the vans, or they’d have been calling - & having their family or neighbours call - locksmiths across the country as well !! So here they were, on holiday a thousand from their homes with no cash, no cards, no phones & NO IDENTIFICATION. If you never tried to get identification without photo-id . Well, you can freeze your phone & your bank cards without your phone & your bank cards, but getting replacements without cards, phones, drivers licenses, birth certificates, passports . Ms GNIT, however, had a box under the seat with copies of the travel insurance & a couple of bank statements which naturally contained the contact numbers for banks etc. She & the GN also each had a USB wrist-band with copies of their scanned on certified copies of birth certificates, drivers licenses, Medicare Cards, prescriptions,(dog registration & vaccination) & assorted other items. While copies, not originals, while copies of documents won’t be accepted by some agencies (Centrelink), many others will accept the copies photo ID in an emergency while a more formal process is happening.

21.01.2022 I can’t tell you how many times we TOLD Councils & State Government community service departments...& effectively the Commonwealth government & COAG....you CANNOT rely on the website or mobile phone texts as your first lines of defence & preparation in a disaster. Time after time the first thing to go has been the websites crashing. A text message is only useful if you have a working phone AND if you are near it ....we no longer have landlines thanks to the (government im...posed) NBN ! Victoria & southern NSW fire zones...the mobile signals are out. Much of the internet is down. Always thought I was prepared - having a Satt phone, satellite modem & solar chargers... I’ve just realised they’re NO bloody use if the sky is so full of ash you can’t contact the satellite ! Solar chargers...no bloody use if the ash is so thick you can’t see the sun ! I do always keep 2 fully charger power-banks if trouble is approaching. Currently I’m aware of a family where one (evacuated) member has no phone coverage but can get occasional internet access...brother has phone but no internet - messages are being passed through a 3rd party in a different part of the country who has both....ALWAYS have a 3rd party. I was in an ex-tropical cyclone in central QLD a few years ago when Telstra’s main system was washed away...I was able to borrow an Optus service phone & contact a family member who was with an Optus carrier to pass on messages to my family of Telstra-customers. ALWAYS have an extra carrier. Bloody irresponsible governments love to say go to the website, or we provide a website & a messaging service...looks great in their Annual Reports & sooooo frequently as useless as tit on a bull.

20.01.2022 Preparedness Vs the NBN.... once you are on the NBN - *if the power goes off what-was-your-"LANDLINE PHONE" WILL GO OFF as it now goes through a modem *we are warned to unplug our modems during an electrical storm to protect from lightning strikes wiping out everything linked to it....THIS NOW INCLUDES YOUR PHONE !... *IF POWER OUTAGE IS LIKELY TO BE A PROBLEM YOU WILL NEED A FULLY CHARGED MOBILE PHONE *& if slow repair times is likely in your area YOU WILL ALSO NEED A FULLY CHARGED POWERBANK... in case the power is off for days * given the failures we have experienced with the Telstra network we now have 2 mobile phones, one each on 2 different carriers. * WHAT KIND OF GOVERNMENT TAKES FROM US A KEY PLANK OF THE HOUSEHOLD SAFETY OF MANY PEOPLE.... & says nothing about it. OUR LOCAL FEDERAL MEMBER HERE IS PROMOTING EXTENDING TELSTRA COVERAGE AS THE ANTIDOTE TO "BLACK SPOTS" IN THE HINTERLAND....1 Question for him "WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU, PERSONALLY, CALLED TELSTRA'S TECH SUPPORT".... the most commonly used words - by customers - on Telstra Tech Support calls are "SLOW DOWN" & "SAY THAT AGAIN"

20.01.2022 Battened Down in Broken Hill - Prepared !!! & hopefully Safer !

19.01.2022 Trolley Kit Contents - one variety ..... want to win something like this ?

14.01.2022 Focus...what’s focus ?? I vaguely remember that... what happens when the fire is out ?? I’m very afraid of what is going to happen when people think the disaster is over. The Disaster is not going to be over for so many people for years. We MUST see to it that better support is made available to firefighters & emergency service personnel & support workers than has been done for our War Veterans. Many of these people will be going back to small communities in some... ways smaller communities are better able to cope with supporting their people...in other ways, a number of the most relied-upon people in many places are going to be hurting very badly & have compromised functioning. We know so much more now about PTSD. The public now knows more about the screaming nightmares & the emotional outbursts both anger & distress. They know a little about the kind of hypervigilance that makes you jump through the roof, or drop to the floor at unexpected bangs. They don’t get that hypervigilance means exactly that being vigilant all day & all night to forestall the shadows before they jump - & the ensuing exhaustion & strange sleep patterns. People don’t get the sense of ambush when totally random things happen like being abused at the ATM for being slow... People don’t really get the nights of compulsive floor-walking after an ambush, episode or event. FAMILIES don’t get this they don’t know it’s coming... Families & partners don’t know to expect a HUGE loss of function mostly caused by an almost complete loss of the ability to focus...they don’t get that dinner is again burned, or late, or buggered in some way because you forgot what you were doing & wandered off on some other thread in the middle of it. They don’t relate last year’s fires to the laundry basket sitting under the clothesline with only half of it hung out & you nowhere in sight. ...and then there’s the survivors...but that's a writing for another day

14.01.2022 BRONZE Award !!! Here's the first photo ! - our collaboration with Prodigy on increasing community awareness and engagement in disaster preparedness meant - .... Leanne collected a gorgeous Bronze at the Australian Awards for Excellence last night in Sydney. CONGRATS Leanne & Cathy - you guys are sooo great to work with

13.01.2022 STORM SEASON - do you have a PLAN ?? Come to Tanawha Hay Shed's Trading Day & look at our display !!! Next Saturday, 18 Glenmount Rd, Tanawha, from about 8:00.

12.01.2022 Bushfire Season is about to to start. Remember - PaRt of being Resilient is being Prepared (Prepared and Resilient PaRt - are you up to PaR ??). Have a plan for what your moves would be if you had 5 minutes warning to evacuate....have a Grab & Run Plan/List. Mine is on this site.

12.01.2022 Prodigy Bag - about to go travelling. It'll store under the bed or in the back of the Ranger. This thing is so tough, it'll hold a camp stove, a First Aid Kit, copies of important documents, medications, dry clothes & high vis vests, dog food, flashing water bottles, wind-up torch radio .etc... AND - if the Ship Hits the Sand, or the Flames Reach Your Grass - you can RUN with it & still have a free hand for the dog !

10.01.2022 In 2011 my Team...that is, myself (having just come from Emergency Relief Contract Manager with a Commonwealth department through the Gatton area wipe-out & the Brisbane area 2011 floods to work disasters at Moreton Bay), Jacqui P, Brian P - with Prodigy Merchandise - developed the range of USBs containing "Who Am I" information for Disaster Preparedness. They were designed to contain personal details, photos of things you might want to claim insurance on, details like Insur...ance policy numbers, photos of your identifying documents, your Centrelink number, medical needs....etc. The things we had learned people were stuffed without one they were flooded/burnt etc. I see now some ICE crowd are claiming some "Aussie Grandfather" developed the range of these items....well, if his name's not Peacock I'd have to doubt someone's facts. Our work was documented at the time with 3 levels of government ( our Disaster Committee also included the Qld branch of the Australian Red Cross.) Prodigy won an Australasian Bronze Medal for their community campaign which included the range of wrist-band USBs, Glow-in-the-dark wrist band USBs, Lanyards & thumb drives. See more

09.01.2022 Need to be PREPARED for ANYTHING !!!

07.01.2022 Paid a visit yesterday to the Tanawha Hay Shed - tucked away in a gorgeous area at Tanawha. Speaking to a young woman whose family home had gone very close to going up in flames - she was quite taken with the concept of being Prepared for disasters or emergencies. We're hoping to be able to do some joint work for an Event later this year. (GREAT prices for some of their dog items - I'm going to have to go back & buy !!)

07.01.2022 I fully support the Mayor of Townsville...How many times do people have to be told !!! It's been raining for a week. Warnings have been being posted, texted, announced on-air for at least 4 days that the flooding is going to get worse ! They DOOR-KNOCKED twice !! & people are saying they weren't warned ??? Seriously !!! People are out there risking their lives to help slack individuals who still think...what ?.. that Bruce Willis is coming ?? !!... THIS is part of the reason I won't work disasters anymore...it was only a question of time before I called someone a slack f-wit to their face. See more

05.01.2022 Cyclone Marcia - currently hitting some of us. Just in case it's of use, here's my "Grab & Run" list, in case of evacuations - this from my former life in Disaster Preparedness. I also have a room by room Piss-Bolting plan as my handbag is in the far corner of the house from the doors - I figure I need 90 secs. I'll put it up shortly.
