18.01.2022 Statement from Commissioner of Taxation, Chris Jordan AO: Earlier this week, the ATO suffered its worst unplanned system outage in recent memory. This was an ex...tremely unusual and unfortunate event with the outage caused by a significant and unprecedented failure of storage hardware. ATO staff and people at HPE have worked around the clock over the last week to bring systems back online progressively. Our website, the Tax Agent Portal, BAS Portal and Business Portals are up and running and we are seeing continued improvements in their functionality. We are continuing to work on the stabilisation of ATO Online services. We are realistic that there may be some intermittent performance issues in the next couple of days as the full restoration process proceeds. All refunds that were due to issue when the system went down on Monday have now been processed and will be paid today and tomorrow. Any other refunds in the system will be fast-tracked to ensure people get these payments as quickly as possible - we have devoted additional resources to ensure the vast majority of people get their refunds on time. We know the outages this week have caused inconvenience, especially so close to Christmas, and I apologise for that. As we return to normal operations next week, we will be fully investigating the events of the last week. There will be a comprehensive and independent review to help us answer the questions exactly what happened, how and why, and what measures need to be taken to avoid such a situation in the future. 15.01.2022 End of year sales are approaching! Will you be buying any tools, equipment or other assets for your job, such as computers, software, office furniture, pow...er tools or safety equipment? Tax tip: If an item costs you $300 or less, you may be able to claim an immediate tax deduction when you lodge your next tax return. For items over $300, your deduction claim will be spread over a number of years (aka depreciation). Want to learn more? Visit https://ato.gov.au//ded/tools,-equipment-and-other-assets/

14.01.2022 We had some interesting clients in the office this week!!

13.01.2022 Today weve continued work to try to restore a number of core services, including the Tax Agent Portal and BAS Agent Portal. Thank you to the many tax agents wh...o are helping us to test these services. Over the course of the afternoon, we experienced further performance issues as we tried to restore services. This has impacted the availability of our portals and ato.gov.au at different times. Were working to restore the website and portals to full functionality as a priority. Specialist technicians will continue to work around the clock. Once the website and portals have been fully restored, well focus our efforts on other core services as well as processing payments and refunds. We anticipate there may continue to be intermittent disruptions over the coming days as we continue the process to restore full services. Read more in our latest statement at http://lets-talk.ato.gov.au/ato-systems-update Well provide further updates here on Facebook tomorrow. Thanks once again for your patience.
