18.01.2022 Greetings from the Staff of the Adventist Heritage Centre! It's time for another one of our monthly newsletters. Also, we're just about to put up a new exhibit out at South Sea Island Museum so if you haven't seen the latest then go ahead and check it out! Just like last time, if you want to be added direct to our mailing list just give us a buzz.

16.01.2022 A selection of Mel Skinner Charts that were processed recently. These charts were used in evangelism seminars before data projectors. These particular charts are c.1970, but we have other charts which date right back to 1901. They are original artwork painted on canvas, and about 1.5x1.5 sq.m in size, though we have one banner over four meters long. There are dozens of charts in our collection. These particular charts are unusual for Skinner as they are unusually vibrant, with high contrast and texture. These charts feature the four beasts of Daniel Ch 7 and scenes from Revelation. We hope you enjoy just this taste of our collection. These were taken on an iPhone 4s and processed through Instagram and other iPhone photo editing apps(processed by instagram account @tashanagirl).

03.01.2022 The Adventist Heritage Centre has some exciting news! It looks like a new museum building is in the future, and we want your opinions! The building will be significantly larger than our current location at the South Sea Islands Museum and will include exhibits dedicated to the cultural history of the South Sea Islands alongside exhibits on the Seventh-day Adventist Church. So the question is, what are your thoughts on history in the South Pacific Division? Are there any exhibits you would like to see? What history is close to your heart? We are particularly looking forward to the opinions of our young people.

03.01.2022 A short excerpt from "The Woman's Book: Contains Everything a Woman Ought to Know" (Household Management, Cookery, Children, Home Doctor, Business, Dress, Society, Careers, Citizenship) Etiquette and Social Guide The Art of Conversation "The art of conversation is indispensable to a woman's social equipment. There is nothing more pleasing than the cultured conversation of a well-bred woman; nothing more wearisome than to listen to the trivial talk of a woman as lacking in b...reeding as she is in brains. It does not follow that the most learned people are the best conversationalists, although the exigencies of conversation require as a rule that woman should be well read. Any woman with a fair education can cultivate the art of talking well, provided she has tact, a good memory, and a pleasant well0-modulated voice. Harsh strident tones detract very materially from the charm of a conversationalist. Very often this defect is noticeable in girls who have been educated a t large public schools, where the habit of shouting at recreation times is insensibly contracted. Every care should be taken to cure thsi8 habit of shouting , for although the voice may lack that actual sweetness of timbre which is such a potent charm, yet welll-modulated tones go far to make up for this deficiency." p.352 The section then goes on to describe; Topics to be Avoided ("Religion and Politics"), Slang and Word Clipping ("In whatever society slang or word clipping is used, the fact remains that it is contrary to all the laws of refinement and good breeding.") Pronunciation ("There is no more marked vulgarity than a Cockney accent.") Current Topics ("A woman should keep herself well informed upon current topics of interest." It was published April 1911
