25.01.2022 I love life when ur told if you can drink ur way through 25 lt of the best champagne in aus y'all get a special mention in tmozaz celebrations yve made it to paradise!! The butter shed is a the ultimate mancave... With its own brewery including home made hops growing over the house for the perfect beer brew and the best wine in house.... I'm sleepin by the fire with the champagne hose in hand, waiting out a drop to deal is couldn't get any better. Did I mention we are pickin grapes after the ANZAC day service and learning the art of ukulele making from the only ukulele makers in Tas! I can't play for nuts but shit these lads are amazing!! All you can drink and an amazing talent, a huge roast dinner and we are in heaven!!
25.01.2022 Sitting at Ironhouse point outside the famous brewery.. drinking cans of cascade, thanks Keith and Hugh . It's a pretty nasty surf landing.. Is a fully laden 19ft sea kayak supposed to cartwheel? Had a great afternoon watching people trying to launch and land their boats at the suedo boatramp, which is basically breaking waves onto rock, ramp 4:fishermen 1.Stuff that the pub does a great fish and chips and it less than fuel and boat repairs. Looking forward to the fishing comp tomorrow with 35 knot winds and 3metres of swell and local waves. Should be some good entertainment, get down here if you can, bring a carton or 2.
22.01.2022 At the Butter Factory with the coolest cats in Tasmania! Drinking a 25lt keg of champagne and umpteen bottles of home grown red and it's gonna be another huge night! Only just rolling again from the 9:00am beers with the boys this morning. This kayaking caper should come with a warning!!
19.01.2022 Paddle Wineglass, bay voted the 4th best thing to do before you die: tick. "Bitch NO" voted the worst town to paddle to in the world: tick.
17.01.2022 Tasmania's green energy future! The tree was blocking the sunlight from our solar panels so we cut it down and made a great stand to put the solar panels on. Nah, we didn't use the wood, we just chipped it, put it in a pile and burnt it! Evidently that's how they roll round here?
16.01.2022 A good afternoon doing a few running repairs on Lach's boat this afternoon. Hopefully fixed the leak in my cockpit that's been dribbling in since Black Pyramid. Pulled all of the factory fittings out, took out the poxy rubber washer and Sikaflexed them all. Other than that we've been relaxing on the beach in Wineglass bay in Freycinet nat park.
16.01.2022 Made 200lt of plonk this mornin, just topping up the grog supply!
12.01.2022 A big shout out to the team at Kokatat for sending through some awesome new kit for the journey.... Waiting in Strahan is a new set of Gore tex Whirlpool bib pants with relief zipper and socks and Gore tex Tectour cag for each of us. Bring on the horizontal rain, 30kn winds and 5 meter swell... we're ready for ya!... Cheers Lisa yr a champ! Check it out at >> http://www.kokatat.com/
10.01.2022 Life's a gap year, 10lt of champagne to go! Survived the night and the session started at dawn with beers and brandy. It's been three days on the sauce, if the weather doesn't change we are in trouble!! :)
07.01.2022 Done touristing in Binalong Bay and its time to get on water again. Had a dawn start today... On water bout 3 in the morning to run the tides and escape the winds. It didn't work so well, 25kn on the nose all day, awesome! Anywho, Bay of Fires is amazing, running a line just outside the breakers to escape the wind with some amazing views. This is definitely a place to come back to. At Eddystone tonight, great old lighthouse and outbuildings, another testament to the great th...ings we can accomplish with convict labour! Off again tmoz pushing out to Swan island for tomorrow night. The weather window we have been waiting for looks like its here for Mondays paddle to Cape Barron Island from Swan and into the Eastern straits . We may even get a few good days up the coast of Flinders as well. All traveling well, livin the paddlers dream, just wiling away the days waiting for good weather and generally lappin up the Tassie sunshine. Happy daze.
07.01.2022 Finally on the way round the rock... Just keep Tassie on the left from now on! :) Awesome day today and it looks like sweet weather for the next few as well. Should be in Strahan bout Tuesday give or take. Happy daze...
07.01.2022 A big thanks to all the people who helped us out along the way and in the lead up to the trip. All of our family and friends back home who helped out with all the prep. Both our parents for all their support before and during the trip. Davo and both Malcolms for your time and advice, Mark and the guys from EK kayaks for helping us out with gear; Karel from paddling perfection; Pacific Action, Kokatat and Macpac in Adelaide for helping us out with gear along the way after some... of ours had a difference of opinion with the elements. Jan and Jim Alston and their boys for all their help with picking up, looking after and dropping off the car. Teegan on king island for your hospitality; Jen and Shawn for being our Tassie support crew, huge help on more than one occasion. Des from Strahan sailing club. All the fishermen along the south and west coasts for your local advice and especially for passing on weather forecasts. Sarah and all your housemates in Hobart for having us for a week, roofs and showers were greatly appreciated. Keith for dropping in to say G'day and dropping off a carton of supplies. And finally the boys at the butter factory on Flinders island, for a great week and all your help with our boats. Now it's back to work to cash up for the next trip. See more
07.01.2022 Made it through the champas keg, layed down 50lt of beer and feeling like we have finally accomplished something today. Then Murph says he has 2 of the 25lt champas kegs out back as backups just in case the supply runs low. Bugger... we might never leave :)
06.01.2022 Next trip I'm getting a bigger boat and a bigger tent. -Lach
05.01.2022 Finally made back to vic. It's been a great trip, 3 and a half months on the water. About two thirds of that spent sitting out some of the worst weather Tassie could throw at us.Highest recorded wind was 155km/hr,largest waves in excess of 10metres. Good days to be bunkered down in our tents. Beautiful scenery the whole way and thanks Tasmania for having us.
05.01.2022 Let the half way party begin!!!! Happy daze!
02.01.2022 Had a great time lazin about in Strahan, time to get the show on the water again. We're off to the heads at Hells Gate today and will wait for a weather window to run down the coast to Hibbs Point. From there it's all go to Hobart with a stop in Bathurst harbour for a little upriver sojourn. There are plenty of safe landing sites along the coast if you look carefully enough and take heed of wind and swell direction. Check out the points on our map of the route for more detail...s. We could be in Hobart in 10 days ish if the weather is good, or three weeks if it all goes to pot. We're both really looking foreward to the next leg and the remoteness the southwest brings. We won't have any reception from the heads in Strahan to Southport near Cockle Creek so there won't be much contact other than the regular Spot updates each night. So follow our progress and well post the photos and details of the journey when we're back in mobile range again. Lifes short, kayak naked!
01.01.2022 Cruisy day yesterday, 40km down the coast to Tema. Some wild bomeys and reef extending to about 2ks off the coast and thats on a calm day below 15kn.... Wouldnt want to see a rough day, that would be scary! Amazing as we paddle down the coast the sea goes from rich blue to emerald green whenever we pass a rivermouth on the coast. Makes for some great photos. A short one to Sandy Cape today only 20ks then 50ks to Granville H. There are no outs between Sandy Cape and GH so we decided on a shortie and a 50clicker rather than push a 70k day today. From GH there are no outs again till Strahan and this is another 50 km push.
