24.01.2022 21/22nd July, 2018 saw us survey and clean up the little known Coopers Creek Cemetery near Walhalla. A lot of behind the scenes goes into projects like this, e...ven before work has commenced. All work is done by our volunteers and all money is donated. 100% of all donations goes into the Aberfeldy Track infrastructure. In coming months on a weekly basis we will be posting interesting facts, figures and anything related to the Cemetery. Our Aberfeldy Track already hosts numerous cemeteries. Red Jacket and Jericho are our prized babies in particular. Restored back from the dead. pardon the pun. The Coopers Creek project will cost us $7,000 to fence and restore, in which we will be doing in a few months. We need to raise another $2,000, so please support us. Please enjoy the before and after pics. There were 70 plus known burials, we have so far found about 30-40. You can see how it was transformed from bush to back to its glory. Well it will, once we commence Stage 2. We have ran countless expeditions in this area over the last 22 years, and continue to do so year after year. To date, we have recorded over 10,000 historical sites. This publication is primarily based on our finds rather than a detailed historical paper, although there is enough historical data included. Decades of research and ground work goes into finding all these sites, and this publication is for those who wish not to pursue such a task, but rather use this as their guide to re-visit and explore the rich history that our pioneers had created. Its about the only marked grave at the Edward’s Reef Burial Ground that of Christina Shaw. This is a diary written by Alex Shaw, Christina ’s son and is an account of a fourteen-day journey made by Alex in 1930 from Ballarat to The Springs, Donnelly’s Creek and Edwards Reef, as a pilgrimage to his mother’s grave. Some may know me from my dozen or so books I have published and re-printed of the Walhalla- Woods Point Region. Some may know me from my mine and ghost town tours I do. However, it all started back in 1995 when I first published maps on the Donnelly’s Creek area. The maps are still popular today. Showing old township sites, mine locations, hotel sites, as... well as all your 4wd tracks. The Walhalla map especially is the most popular selling over 17,000 copies.
