25.01.2022 Some Croc knowledge with a clean shaven Matt. FNQ Nature Tours

25.01.2022 Worth checking out!

24.01.2022 Two years ago I was fortunate enough to be asked to photograph this beautiful young male Echidna. There are some animals in this world that just blow your mind, the Echidna is definitely one of them. Did you know that Australia is home to the world’s only egg laying mammals (Monotremes), the Platypus and this stunning fella. ... #wildlife #nature #photography #wildlifephotography #australian #queensland #monotreme #yourshotphotographer

24.01.2022 Meet Dusty. One of the Adult Female Saltwater Crocodiles on the Daintree River. This stunning animal certainly threw on a pose for the cameras on yesterdays Afternoon/Nocturnal Daintree Tour.... FNQ Nature Tours Solar Whisper Daintree River Crocodile & Wildlife Cruises

24.01.2022 A great wildlife learning platform for Parents and Teachers. Jump on over and check out the early bird special! It is brought to you by Zoo to You, a great small local business with decades of experience in Education and Wildlife interactions.

23.01.2022 From the archives In 2009 I purchased my first camera, a Canon 600D with a kit lens. I remember spending time with a local photographer, he gave me this piece of advice... ‘Put your camera on Manual and leave it there’. This piece of advice is what I feel to be the best way to learn photography. Manually manipulating Shutter Speed, Aperture and ISO, the exposure triangle. A few months after buying the camera I decided to photograph some of the venomous snakes at my old work, this was one of my favourites. Northern Death Adder. #wildlife #photography #reptilesofinstagram #reptilephotography #venomous #photographytips #nature

23.01.2022 Blue-winged Kookaburra (Dacelo leachii). Australia’s 2nd Largest Kingfisher, found throughout areas of QLD, Top of NT and areas of WA. This stunning bird is unable to laugh like he’s cousin the Laughing Kookaburra. Instead he has a very distinct cackle.

22.01.2022 Newest addition to the Kingfisher Collection, the Sacred Kingfisher. Daintree River, FNQ. FNQ Nature Tours Solar Whisper Daintree River Crocodile & Wildlife Cruises

20.01.2022 The Kingfisher Collection is slowly coming together. Only three more Australian Kingfishers to photograph. The Sacred, Buff-breasted and Yellow-billed Kingfishers continue to elude my camera.... In order: Blue-winged Kookaburra, Torresian Kingfisher, Red-backed Kingfisher, Laughing Kookaburra, Azure Kingfisher, Little Kingfisher and Forest Kingfisher.

20.01.2022 Young Black-necked Stork posing for a stunning portrait. Cairns Esplanade

20.01.2022 Not a whole lot of birds floating around this morning but we did manage to find a family of Large-billed Gerygones down by a local mangrove.

18.01.2022 One of the most elusive birds on the Daintree River. Hard to believe that a bird that stands at 120cm tall can be considered elusive! The Great Billed Heron.

18.01.2022 As if the Crocs aren’t struggling enough with Human conflict... This is one of the boat ramps on the Daintree River and as you can see there are a number of dumped fish frames. Fish frames WILL attract crocodiles and this isn’t a place where you want crocs hanging out.... If a croc is seen hanging out at a boat ramp people will be concerned and will report this to the government, the result will be the croc is removed and most likely killed. Don’t be a lazy arsehole, dispose of fish frames and food scraps appropriately. ***Spread this message as far as it needs to go!!!***

16.01.2022 With School holidays coming up next week do yourself a favour and explore FNQ, our local Tourism industry really needs it. My hot trip for a wild day out is heading up to the Daintree River and going on an extremely affordable Tour with Solar Whisper Daintree River Crocodile & Wildlife Cruises. Crocs, birds, snakes and stunning magical landscapes.... Check out their Facebook page for more details.

16.01.2022 The Kingfisher Collection. 1. Azure Kingfisher 2. Little Kingfisher 3. Forest Kingfisher... A massive thanks to Solar Whisper Daintree River Crocodile & Wildlife Cruises for a sensational cruise along the Daintree River yesterday morning.

15.01.2022 Want to learn something super mega awesome? If so check this out! Firstly this is a photo of the head of a Saltwater Crocodile (My absolute Favourite creature). The head structure of a Crocodile is incredibly fascinating and is the result of Millions of years of evolutionary change. I could talk all day about how incredible the head of a Crocodile is however I think I will stick to just one small part, the ISOs.... Integumentary Sense Organs or ISOs for short are the tiny little black dots on the scales of the Crocodile and as you can see from the close up photos they are highly concentrated around the jaws and head of the Croc. These ISOs are small sense organs or nerve endings that detect vibrations, they could be vibrations in the water around them or even the vibrations of an animal walking along the nearby water’s edge. Every apex predator needs to have a number of adaptations in order to catch and kill, these ISOs are one of the most impressive adaptations Crocs have. They actually cover the length of the crocodile’s body and allow Crocs to feel the presence of a prey item or even the presence of another Croc. Cool??? Well further to this, in the breeding season Crocs will vibrate underwater as a dominant display to any nearby females, they can feel the vibrations underwater using these ISOs and come on over to enjoy the show on a more intimate level. Gotta love Crocs!!!

15.01.2022 Now this was a hard bird to find and photograph! When travelling through Rwanda we spent two weeks in the Akagera National Park and this was one of my main targets, the Papyrus gonolek. #wildlife #nature #birdlife #akagera #rwanda #red #africa #birdsofinstagram #yourshotphotographer

15.01.2022 Are you a Wet Tropics guide? Get involved and submit your virtual tour.

14.01.2022 This is an opportunity I would love to have again one day. Photographing a blue phase White-lipped Pit Viper on Komodo Island. Believe it or not, I took this photo in the middle of the day with full sunlight.... By increasing the F-stop to over 20 and increasing the shutter speed I was able to make a completely black image. With a flash I was able to expose only the snake whilst mid strike. #wildlife #nature #reptilesofinstagram #snakesofinstagram #komodo #viper #strike #venomous #wildlifephotography

14.01.2022 It’s Saturday, time to slow down and smell the flowers. If there is one place I would love to visit post COVID, it would have to be Rwanda! Baboon enjoying a feast of lantana.... #wildlife #nature #africa #rwanda #wildlifephotography

13.01.2022 The FAIL ALBUM. It’s not all Glitz and Glamour in the bird photography world. The images I usually post are a very select few after hours of patience in the field.... These images are just some of those that didn’t quite make the cut #fail #photography #bad #swingandmiss

11.01.2022 Managed to spend some time with this little ripper yesterday. Spotted Pardalote, Mount Tambourine.

11.01.2022 Time to throw back to December 2019 when we also had a Gorilla land on us While trekking through Volcanoes National Park we found a large group of Mountain Gorillas, the most incredible wildlife encounter I have had. This part however was a little nerve wrecking... #gorilla #wildlife #africa #amazing #memorylane #volcanoesnationalpark

10.01.2022 Far out! How lucky are we to live in this part of the world! While COVID shuts down the country we are chilling out up here living it up!... With so many small businesses looking to the locals for support there are so many great specials on a magnitude of tours and experiences. Today we ticked off a scenic flight over the Great Barrier Reef and boy was it incredible! Not only did we have breath taking views but we saw Whales, Turtles, Manta Rays, Dolphins and a Shark. Hit up GSL Aviation and book a flight!

09.01.2022 Birds, Birds and Birds! Check out the latest blog from FNQ Nature Tours

09.01.2022 A morning well spent up at the Shared Earth Reserve. Even caught up with one of my mates for a chin wag! The legendary Emu!

07.01.2022 Yesterday we left the Rainforest for the nearby (very) dry woodland. The change in habitat also meant a change in wildlife. Photographing this wild Frilly had many challenges, none more than strong contrasting light. It was the middle of the day and the sun was directly overhead.... I opted to over expose the image and drop the highlights and whites in Lightroom. #nature #wildlife #dry #reptilesofinstagram #queensland #photography

06.01.2022 GRAPHIC CONTENT Ok you have been warned. In 2017 I made my way to the Komodo Islands for the second time. ... As we landed on Rinca Island our guide hurried us on a hike up through the hills in search of this!!! A dead and rotten water buffalo being consumed by several hungry Komodo Dragons. This is a small snippet of the event. #wildlife #nature #komodo #feast #danger #reptilesofinstagram #wild

05.01.2022 The Forest Kingfisher (Todiramphus macleayii). Quite a common Kingfisher, located throughout the East coast of Australia and the top of NT. The contrasting clean white feathers and iridescent blue sheen makes this birds a stunning addition to any habitat.

04.01.2022 Welcome Swallows being Welcome Swallows. Cattana Wetlands, Cairns.

03.01.2022 The best photo I could capture of this slippery, elusive fella. Tell me your favourite Platypus fact #nature #wildlife #explore #queensland #australia #photography #platypus

03.01.2022 The Torresian Kingfisher (Todiramphus sordidus). This Lowland forest and mangrove dwelling bird is found throughout the top end of Australia and into PNG and the Torres Strait. Being a Kingfisher, they HUNT, targetting crabs, worms, mudskippers and any other small unsuspecting creatures.

02.01.2022 Kelvin Marshall absolutely killing it!

02.01.2022 G’day legends! Over the past month I have been travelling around QLD and brainstorming some new projects. One of the ideas will revolve around my YouTube channel. Here I will be posting some videos about my wildlife journeys and photography tips and tricks.... Click the link and follow the channel if you are interested. Cheers

01.01.2022 Another one from the archives. In 2017 Jodie and I ventured over the South America and spent 10 days travelling around the Galápagos. During my time over there I was fortunate enough to swim with Marine Iguanas, watch giant Tortoises feed and stand in knee deep water with these characters!... Sea lion pups!!! #wildlife #encounter #galapagos #nature #explore #travel #marine
