23.01.2022 Hiking to the summit of Cradle Mountain... a great blog from The World As I See It by Lady of the Zoos. "Climbing up Cradle Mountain is difficult. But the climb is completely worth it. Even though I found it to be one of the most physically challenging things Ive ever done, it was also among the most amazing experiences Ive ever had. To hike Cradle Mountain is a six to eight hour return; its 6.4 kilometers one way but includes lots of steep sections, with a total climb of ...600 meters..." 22.01.2022 A wonderful start to the day! This gorgeous baby platypus was having so much fun he didnt mind who was watching! Thanks to Penny Riddoch for sharing her adventures with us. #AdventureWorks... The platypus, with its duck bill and webbed feet, is a unique Australian animal. It and echidnas are the only monotremes or egg-laying mammals to be found on earth. The marsupials (mammals with pouches, e.g. kangaroos) and eutherians (placental mammals that give birth to well developed young, e.g. humans) both give birth to live young. Surprisingly, platypus are capable of many vocalisations including a soft growling sound when disturbed.

17.01.2022 Volcanoes in Victoria... a great article from Australian Geographic. "Everything we see from the start of Victorias Western District to the South Australia border the hills, the lakes, the fields, the walls that fence them and often the paving on the roads that run along them is down to volcanoes. Many might be mere bumps on the horizon, but given the variety of the 400-plus volcanoes here, there are few other landscapes like it in the world." #AdventureWorks

12.01.2022 Ten years on. Ten years on from the national apology to the stolen generations. We the folks of Adventure Works extend our very heartfelt and conscious apology to the Indigenous people who were taken from their families and more broadly for the effects of colonisation on all indigenous folks in this country. ... We are sorry! Sorry for the culture and conscience of our colonising ancestors who thought that this was okay and were at the least complicit in these acts. Sorry that to date in many ways we of colonial ancestry consciously and unconsciously replicate practices of power and subjugation. And sorry that successive governments (in spite of some small impressive projects) have failed to find a way to broadly redress the wrong done and the wrong being done. For us the act of apology and the remembering of the national apology is important to lift these issues in our consciousness and attend to our own privilege, practices and habits. We are sincerely grateful for the rich cultural knowledge and histories that our Indigenous peoples carry and share so generously. We continue to open ourselves to learning and being pointed in the right direction towards healing and respect.

06.01.2022 A University of Tasmania study has found that Tasmanian wedge-tailed eagles prefer to remain close to where they hatched. The wedge-tailed eagle is an endangered species in Tasmania, protected by the National Parks and Wildlife Act. Eric Woehler, Convenor of Birdlife Tasmania told Australian Geographic that the results from the recent study are critical to appropriate management of the species. We need such data to manage the Tasmanian landscape and our land-use practices to ensure this magnificent species will persist into the future. he said. Dramatic words, but with so few eagles remaining in Tasmania, we need to do everything to ensure their survival. #AdventureWorks
