Nothing shows greater community spirit and team work than banding together and helping in times like this. Congratulations on all of your hard work to all of the staff that were involved from Animal Emergency Centre, you are making a real difference to those that cant defend themselves from these devastating fires.

20.01.2022 Today is RU OK? Day, as well as World Suicide Prevention Day. These days go hand in hand, for tackling mental health, smashing stigmas and preventing suicide within our workplaces, families and communities. Apart from stopping and recognising the importance of today with in-clinic discussions and treats, the Animal Emergency Centre also has: - In-house Mental Health First Aid officers in every clinic - 24 hour free professional mental health help through the Employee Assistan...ce Program - Free monthly 'Download' meetings with a trained veterinary psychologist - A zero tolerance approach to abuse from clients - and, membership with veterinary mental health charity Love Your Pet Love Your Vet We hope that every pet owner will help to make our hospitals a better place to come to work too, by being respectful and courteous in every interaction with our team mates, even when things get really stressful. We all come to work to do the best job possible. Strike up a conversation with someone today and ask RU OK?

15.01.2022 Our partners at the Petbarn Foundation are providing over $1.2m to animal welfare organisations via a combination of funds, food and supplies to evacuation centres in emergency sites and our vets volunteering their time to help Australias pets and native animals affected by the bushfires. This will help organisations like the RSPCA, Vets Beyond Borders, WIRES, The Rescue Collective, Sydney Dingo Rescue and many more to continue the work that is so desperately needed. For details on organisations we are supporting, click on the link below. We are thankful to our incredible pet community who have reached out to us and asked how they can support. You can help by pledging your support and donating online or by visiting one of our centres. Donate here: http://bit.ly/2QWyxjn

14.01.2022 Feeling helpless with the bushfires raging down south? Us too. Thats why weve weve teamed up with our colleagues down at Animal Referral Hospital Canberra to donate pet food for all species. This will be distributed by the ARH crew directly to the folks that need it. Our AEC team has lead the way with donations already and we invite you to bring dry and tinned food for dogs, cats, birds and pocket pets (dont forget rabbits are legal down there ) into our Kedron... and Woolloongabba hospitals for distribution to evacuated pets. As we cannot guarantee cold transportation, we are not able to accept raw or frozen foods sorry. We have also organised in excess of $4000 worth of veterinary supplies to be donated and shipped to where its needed most too. Thank you to everyone who has already donated - we have been moved by your generosity and passion to help the animals.

12.01.2022 Hands up if your pet has a grandparent It's World Grandparent day today. While some countries celebrate this beautiful day of appreciation on other days of the week, today is the day we celebrate in Australia. A big thank you to our parents who are the grandparents to our 4 legged children.

10.01.2022 Today is World Animal Day. The mission is to raise the status of animals in order to improve welfare standards around the globe. Building the celebration of World Animal Day unites the animal welfare movement, mobilising it into a global force to make the world a better place for all animals. It's celebrated in different ways in every country, irrespective of nationality, religion, faith or political ideology. Through increased awareness and education we can create a world where animals are always recognised as sentient beings and full regard is always paid to their welfare.

10.01.2022 Today it's Dog Appreciation Day. Dogs enrich our lives in so many ways. They make us laugh, they make us cry, they keep us active and keep us company. Dogs live for the moment, something we should all learn from them. Let your dog know they are loved and appreciated by you today and every day.

10.01.2022 Do your pets have access to these common objects?

10.01.2022 You might be surprised to learn that one of the most common cases we see is cats that have fallen or jumped off high rise balconies. Apart from the obvious external injuries to limbs that you might expect, this type of accident can cause major problems internally as well. Known as High Rise Syndrome, the force of the fall can move internal organs around and cause herniations, long term damage, and fatal conditions.... We recommend a catio setup with fine mesh to fully enclose any exit points off the balcony to avoid these accidents. As much as common sense tells us that leaping off tall buildings is a terrible idea, a cats curiosity often gets the better of them, with disastrous consequences. If your cat has a fall off a balcony, always have them assessed at your local or AEC vet, to ensure any hidden injuries are explored too.

09.01.2022 Whether they have 2 legs, 4 or even more, happy birthday to all fathers out there.

09.01.2022 One of our team members had a visit from an Eastern Brown snake today. She grabbed the closest box to keep it safe, which just happened to house the AEC Common Pet Toxins brochures. If you’d like to join the snake in some light reading about this topic, you can find the online brochure here: https://www.aecvets.com.au///09/Common-Pet-Toxins-2016.pdf... (Our slithery friend was relocated by a licensed snake catcher)

06.01.2022 The Queensland Government has today implemented new restrictions, which apply to our hospital operations. First and foremost, we are still open our normal hours and have a full team on site ready to treat any pet emergency. You can be assured that your pet will receive the same high level of care and expertise during this exceptional time. From 6pm Friday night 08/01/21, until 6pm Monday night 11/01/21, we will be operating with a closed waiting room. This means that when you... arrive at the clinic, you simply call us on 3456 0500 to alert us to your arrival. A receptionist will take your details, including where to find you, and a triage team member will come outside of the clinic to retrieve your pet for initial assessment. As per the government regulations, all clients and staff are required to wear a mask, even while sitting in the car, or handing over a pet. You will receive digital copies of any paperwork to be completed, and your veterinary consultation will take place via telephone while the pet is with us in the treatment area. All payments will be processed via telephone as well. We appreciate that this lockdown will be challenging, and we are committed to working through any issues with you and your pet. We remind all visitors that abuse and violence is never tolerated at AEC, and that abusive behaviour may result in removal from the premises, non-treatment of your pet, and police intervention. Please call us on 3456 0500 if you're at all unsure of what to do next - we'll get through it together.

06.01.2022 It's Halloween today and who better a symbol of Halloween than the black cat? Did you know.... There are 22 cat breeds that can come with a solid black coat. Black cats are omens of both good and bad luck, depending on where you are and the situation. Black cats are less likely to be adopted from shelters.... Regardless of superstitions, we think black cats are absolutely adorable. Have a happy Halloween friends.

06.01.2022 + Pet Health Warning + We have seen an increase in Guinea Pigs suffering from heat stroke this summer. All rodents are susceptible to even small changes in temperature, but the typical thick coat of the Cavy or Guinea Pig makes it difficult to disperse heat. Cavys should be kept inside in air conditioning or in front of fans, which ice bricks wrapped in tea towels as an option for them to lie on. Cold vegetables can also provide cooling from the inside. ... Guinea Pigs can deteriorate quickly and any changes to behaviour in hot weather should be taken seriously. See more
