25.01.2022 Every morning at #AEIOUSippyDowns, the children come together on the mat to give thanks to the earth, sky, each other and themselves For National Reconciliation Week, the children learned about the traditional owners of the land where we meet, the Gubbi Gubbi peoples. This week, along with thanking the earth, sky and each other, we thanked the Gubbi Gubbi mob and greeted each other in their language: 'nara'. We discovered the symbols the Gubbi Gubbi peoples used in their traditional art and what these symbols represent: tools, animals and people. We enjoyed painting in the style of traditional Australian Aboriginal dot art to celebrate the Gubbi Gubbi people.
25.01.2022 Today, we learned about National Reconciliation Week and its significance in Australia's history and future. We learned specifically about the Kaurna people, the traditional owners of the Land on which our #AEIOUBrighton centre is built, and Darcy shared with us what he'd learned about our First Nations peoples from Kindy. We talked about the Aboriginal flag and the meanings behind each colour: black for the Aboriginal people of Australia, yellow for the ever-giving sun, and red for the Australian earth which holds such a deep spiritual connection in Aboriginal Australian culture. To acknowledge the Kaurna people, we created artworks in the Aboriginal flag's colours: paintings of the flag, dot paintings inspired by Australian Aboriginal art, and handprints of the flag.
16.01.2022 This winter, the early learners at #AEIOUBrighton have been having fun learning about arctic animals: polar bears, seals, penguins... This crafty activity saw the children creating penguins from different shapes: small orange hearts, big white hearts, large dark blue ovals and HUUUUGE googly eyes We love getting crafty, especially when we get to learn about the world at the same time
02.01.2022 "Do you want to build a snowman?" This winter, we've been dreaming of another realm... a wonderland of snow, ice and music! Inspired by Elsa, Anna and the 'Frozen' universe, the children dressed up as ice princesses and princes and engaged in some ice-themed activities. But they particularly loved dressing up and dancing to their favourite 'Frozen' musical tunes!
