25.01.2022 At the age of 8, Greta Thunberg learned about the impact of climate change. The reality was so shocking that it contributed to her becoming mentally unwell a few years later, unable to attend school or cope with the world. After being diagnosed with Autism, OCD and selective mutism, she embraced her neurodiversity to become a fearless activist, leading the global conversation on climate change. This week she inspired thousands of young people across the world to also find their voice, and turned her special interest into a Nobel Peace Prize nomination. Congratulations, Greta. The world is a better place because of your ability to see it differently

25.01.2022 Happy New Year! We're back from holidays and ready for a big year ahead. There's been a few changes behind the scenes over the break. The new website is live and you can now submit referrals directly online. Please check it out at aeonbehaviour.com

24.01.2022 An insightful article from the good people at DSC..... Sadly, it is very true that complex emotional and behavioural needs of NDIS participants are often not being addressed. In many cases, systemic issues are greatly exacerbating anxiety, as well as behaviours of concern. We remain optimistic about the opportunities NDIS provides and are committed to working with the Agency and other service providers to improve outcomes for this client group. For a confidential chat about the behaviour support needs of your loved one or scheme participant you are working with, contact us directly.

23.01.2022 There are so many misconceptions about what Positive Behaviour Support is, and what it isn't. While behaviour can be challenging, it always serves a purpose and it is essential we take the time to really understand before attempting to intervene. This is a fab summary of guiding principals from Redwood PBS, showing why the most effective interventions focus on building skills and enhancing quality of life, rather than limiting behaviour and opportunities.

22.01.2022 May 26 is National Sorry Day. Today, we apologise for the harm caused by the forced removal of thousands of children and the deliberate effort to erode the cultural identity of Aboriginal people. As an agency who implements public policy, we also resolve to do better. We will learn from past mistakes and be accountable for our actions to protect the rights, dignity and cultural identity of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. #sorryday2019

21.01.2022 'No matter how irrational or difficult a moment might seem, we can respond in a way that says: "I see you. I'm here to understand and help. I'm on your side. We'll figure this out together"

19.01.2022 Great read from the super talented Madeleine Ryan

19.01.2022 This week is National Carers Week. It is aimed at celebrating the huge contribution of carers across Australia. But is is also about raising awareness of the challenges faced and advocating for change in our attitudes, policies and the way we work as organisations.... So thank you to the amazing carers we're lucky enough to work with every day. We take our hat off to you. ... #carersweek2018

17.01.2022 Although we’re often quick to jump to behavioural rewards, the most effective interventions also focus on building intrinsic motivation. Supporting a person to develop their sense of purpose, curiosity or achievement in a way which is meaningful to them can make dramatic improvements to their wellbeing and in turn, their behaviour.

13.01.2022 Are you ready to vote? With the State election just a few days away, it’s a great time to make sure we all have the opportunity to take part. Through their Democracy Ambassadors, the Victorian Electoral Commission are on hand to make sure everyone can be heard and have a say about the community they live in, including people with intellectual disability and those with no fixed address https://www.vec.vic.gov.au/SchoolsAndCommunity/ If you’re a carer or support worker, check out this brilliant resource from Inclusion Melbourne. It has stacks of accessible explanations and videos to help everyone get up to speed on all things politics https://icanvote.org.au/

10.01.2022 What an amazing response, Victoria! The first contributions to this much needed inquiry can be submitted here until January 27 https://engage.vic.gov.au/royal-commission-mental-health-te

07.01.2022 If we were consuming the equivalent of 174 newspapers a day in 2011, just imagine what we're up to now?! This is a brilliant reminder that it's completely "normal" to feel overwhelmed.....

07.01.2022 Love this! Beautiful example of de-escalation using astute listening, a little bit of music and a whole lot of empathy
