15.01.2022 Placing a bowl next to our bed reminds us of the helpful bed time routine of checking in with the contents of the mind, by observing the inputs from the day. We begin holding the bowl as we turn inward to observe any tension throughout the body, we observe our posture & we observe our breath. We then begin to check in with the days events and how we have experienced the day, observing our thoughts, feelings & emotions, making a conscious effort to let go of the stressors of t...he day & observing what, if anything is contaminating our mind, is there craving, jealousy, fear, anger pride etc. Is my attitude a positive or negative one? When we consciously remove the contaminating thoughts we create a spacious mind for growing & learning from the adverse ,tough & even painful parts of our life. After checking in we turn the clean empty bowl upside down & return to the breath, preparing the nervous system for a peaceful rest. As sunlight shines on a new day we are awake, aware full of vitality ready for new growth. #yoga #mindfulness #wellness #soundhealingmeditation #selfawareness See more

13.01.2022 Don’t let the grind of daily life carry you along, & back into old familiar routines, like another year of getting dressed every morning in clothes that you buy for work, to drive through traffic in a car that your paying off, to get to a job that you need to pay for the car, the clothes & the house you leave empty all day so you can afford to live in it. Becoming aware of our habits, becoming aware of what’s controlling us & what impacts our freedom, allows us to make the changes for a happy, healthful year ahead. May we all discover the truth of our full potential.

11.01.2022 The upside down bowl; without knowing we all possess our own implicit biases which interferes with seeing things in a different light & learning from those who we perceive as less or different. If you think of our brain as an iceberg, the smallest section of the iceberg that we see above the water is our conscious part, while the much larger section below the water is where our unconscious processing takes place. Research shows that the unconscious mind absorbs millions of bi...ts of sensory information through the nervous system per second. Our conscious minds are processing only a small fraction of this information much more slowly & less efficiently than our unconscious minds. So we have a lot going on in our brains that we’re not consciously aware of. Like our social behaviour which is largely influenced by unconscious associations & judgments. Specifically, implicit bias which refers to attitudes or stereotypes that affect our understanding, actions, & decisions in an unconscious way, making them difficult to control. Hole in the bowl; we unconsciously dismiss what we don’t want to hear, & disregard the need for change, preferring our old habitual patterns. This learning could have been the very ingredient we were missing to bring us closer to our goals, if only we would have retained it long enough to step aside from our discomfort and shine the light of awareness, not interfering with our ability to practice deep listening. How much wisdom or life's simple pleasures have we over looked & missed out on, because our ego has taken over, allowing our past experiences from early childhood until now lead us to our opinions & actions that are no longer serving us in the present moment? The dirty bowl; we are continuously influenced by the constant input of what we see & hear. How much of this information is useful? & what triggers us? A mind contaminated with craving, aggression, pride, jealousy & ignorance will see the world from a place of suffering, allowing negative thoughts to blur our vision of seeing what's truly possible. #yoga #mindfulness #wellness #soundhealingmeditation #selfawareness See more

09.01.2022 Learning through yoga to end whatever unhappiness is afflicting us, will lead to fulfilment & well-being, if we not only understand the teachings but practice them in depth, to the point that it changes our behaviour. In yoga, no amount of learning, knowledge or ability to quote chapter and verse is of any value unless we take it to heart and allow it to change us. To create this change we should listen to the teachings using the metaphor of the 3 bowls. The upside-down ...bowl; you can’t pour anything into a bowl that’s upside down, there’s no possibility of transmission taking place, because there’s nowhere for the wisdom to go. We become an upside down bowl when our minds are so agitated by life’s events we lose focus. The bowl with a hole; you pour it in, & it runs straight through. Zero retention. We don't enable the teachings to affect what we think, say & do. The teachings motivate us and give us tools to become more effective practitioners & we emerge from our learning eager for transformation, until we face the usual conflicting demands, time pressures and political machinations of daily life, causing us to abandoned our fresh insights & new practices. The dirty bowl; we wouldn’t place fresh food into a dirty bowl because it would contaminate the food, so why would we study with a contaminated attitude? We shouldn’t choose to practice only the teachings we enjoy & appeal to us. When we encounter teachings we find difficult or unpleasant we don’t dismiss them because they don’t fit in with our preconceived ideas, instead we retain an open mind. We become willing to hear the full story, without judgment or attachment until the different pieces fall into place ending up with an embodied understanding of the path we are on. #yoga #mindfulness #wellness #soundhealingmeditation #selfawareness See more
