18.01.2022 DHA https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/news-media/archive/article 5 485 5 485 485 485 485 5 ... 5 TR PR 189190 491 5 PR 485 AES GROUP AES GROUP As you may have heard of the new visa options offered by the Australian government for people from Hong Kong, below is the official news from DHA for your reference at this stage: https://immi.homeaffairs.gov.au/news-media/archive/article Currently, the said 5-year visa is at this stage operated under the Subclass 485 Temporary Graduate Visa scheme. For current or future students completing eligible courses in Australia can apply for the 5-year Subclass 485 visa. Of course, you will still need to meet the Australian study, age, English, health & character assessment, etc. requirements. Current 485 visa holders can also apply for an extension under the same visa type. However, under the current legislations, an individual can only apply for a 485 as a main visa applicant once in a life time. Therefore, for people who have held and expired a 485 visa as a main applicant before, whether they will be eligible to apply for a 5-year extension or not, we are still yet to wait for the fine prints to be published. Also, as you can see from the news published today, there should be a PR pathway by the end of this 5-year TR visa. Of course, relying on your owns skills for 189, 190 or 491 may be a quicker options rather than waiting for another 5 years for a PR. So, depending on your own circumstances and we can discuss and decide which pathway is more suitable for you when the legislative fine prints are out. Following the publication of Subclass 485 visa being one of the new visa options for people from Hong Kong, we expect the legislative fine prints should be ready very shortly.
