24.01.2022 This Thursday! Hear from an expert panel on the big issues shaping the education debate: tax cuts, COVID-19, the economic recession and plans for jobs and wages. Don't miss out - it's free, but registration is essential: https://us02web.zoom.us//2816025/WN_gPJMyc0lRnOURcqrbm8suQ

21.01.2022 A wonderful reminder of the positive impact of public education, from a community doing it tough right now. We've all had enough of the challenges of 2020, but for every new challenge it's good to know that we face it together. Solidarity.

20.01.2022 We regret to advise that Cosgrove High School will be closed to all students tomorrow and Wednesday. We will post further information later this afternoon regar...ding plans for Thursday onwards. This afternoon and tomorrow we will also call all of our families with a detailed update and to answer your questions. See more

19.01.2022 Such a heartbreaking time for Cosgrove HS members, students and community. It’s such terrible timing, but we stand united, ready and willing to assist where possible.

19.01.2022 The cumulative impact of the decision by TasTAFE to push students into off campus e-learning and more online delivery hours, as a way to reduce costs, is deeply worrying. It is TasTAFE’s job to raise the education capital of Tasmania and provide skilled and ready workers for hundreds of Tasmanian trades, industries and services. The current approach from management is setting many students up to fail." Get the full report on the AEU website here: https://aeutas.org.au/tastafe-teachers-report-demands-mana/

18.01.2022 AEU members have won even greater respect from our communities as principals, teachers and support staff in 2020. In union, we've also won the respect of government for our leadership, connection to workplaces across Tasmania, collaborative approach and strong advocacy. When we work together to improve the working conditions of educators, we improve the learning conditions for students and that's what we're truly passionate about. AEU members deserve to be proud of how they r...esponded to COVID-19 and the other challenges of 2020. If we are forced to face another wave we will get through it again, together. #solidarity #inunion #AEU #ausunions #unionstas #publiceducation

15.01.2022 This interview with a wonderful public education advocate, Matt Bennell, Principal at Taroona High School, is well worth a listen. Quality public education is what we are all passionate about and Matt expressed this passion so well in prime Hobart drive time yesterday.

15.01.2022 Congratulations to Heetham Hekmat, TasTAFE graduate and Vocational Student of the Year Award winner for 2020. Heetham Hekmat came to Australia as a refugee, he fled his home in Iraq as a teenager and spent seven years waiting in Syria for safe settlement. When he arrived in Hobart, he had very limited English and no qualifications.... Heetham completed a Diploma of Community Services at the end of 2019 and is now a community service worker at Headspace and The Link Youth Health Service in Hobart. 13.01.2022 It's educators who built a movement to reclaim public education as a common good, leading to the election of President-elect Joe Biden. With the Biden/Harris administration, we'll transform our system of public education into one that is racially and socially just and equitable! - National Education Association. Congratulations!

10.01.2022 Violence against women and girls is a human rights violation that’s been perpetuated for decades. It’s pervasive, but it’s not inevitable, unless we stay silent. Speak out, #orangetheworld & break the cycle of abuse during #16Days of Activism! With an increase in Internet use during #COVID19, women and girls have become targets of online violence more than ever.... This #16Days of Activism, #orangetheworld by using social media to spread awareness & kindness. Due to the #COVID19 pandemic conditions, we all spend more time on the Internet. Let’s make sure our platforms are safe spaces, not spaces of online abuse, misogyny and sexism. #orangetheworld

10.01.2022 AEU members are speaking out for quality public education and training - add your voice and support the report's recommendations: * TasTAFE Teachers are to be recognised and valued for the specialist vocational experience, expertise and knowledge they bring to their professional role, and the specialist pedagogy/andragogy they utilise in vocational, applied adult learning. * TasTAFE Teachers must have the authority to make the educational decisions needed for TasTAFE students... to achieve the best possible educational outcomes, including adequate time for face-to face on campus mode learning. * TasTAFE teachers must be consulted, and authentically included in the decision making that impacts students’ educational outcomes. * TasTAFE Teachers are to be supported and well-resourced. Administrative systems must be designed and operate to support suitability processes, enrolment, recording of progress, storage of evidence and scaffold teaching to support students’ learning and successful course completion.
