24.01.2022 FOUND: My son found this poor fella who was starting to be swept into some fast flowing drain water on Severin/Upward St, near Youthlink. If you own this dog or know who does, he is now in the care of the 24hr Emergency Vets on Anderson St

23.01.2022 Black and tan dachshund found at Atherton Hospital this morning. Followed a man walking to the hospital from Loder Street. May have been with another small do...g at the time. No collar. While searching for the owner I've found his little tan mate at another's house on that street. Female. Also no collar. The one she has on is one of our spares. The people at that house have contacted the Council and will pass on my details in the morning. See more

23.01.2022 Yesterday I sent a letter to the Environment Minister pleading for her to intervene and stop kangaroo killing at a housing estate in Lilydale. I am sorry to sha...re with you that I have not received a response, but the Department has issued a statement claiming they are 'aware of community concerns around the permit, however it is satisfied that the authorisation is necessary for the site'. I am also sorry to share with you that volunteers on the ground have confirmed some of the kangaroos have joeys in pouch and at foot. If the killing goes ahead, it will be completely legal for them to be clubbed over the head. This is absolutely devastating. There are qualified wildlife professionals who are ready to relocate this small mob. All it requires is the stroke of a pen from the Victorian Government. Killing is now imminent and could start as soon as this evening. I will work around the clock today to do anything I can to stop it.

23.01.2022 Craiglea Schumo, just 2 years old, ran his second and final race last month in Townsville. According to Stewards Reports, he suffered a catastrophic leg injury... during this nasty fall, and was subsequently killed. It's disappointing to see that Mater Health Services are a sponsor for the horse racing industry. Please contact them and ask them to stop funding animal cruelty - https://www.mater.org.au/contact You bet, they die.

22.01.2022 For the 42 crew members who were reportedly told to put on a life jacket and jump for the nearly 6,000 animals who didnt stand a chance the sinking of the ...Australian-operated MV 'Gulf Livestock 1' live export ship is a human and animal tragedy almost too painful to contemplate. Today, please join us in lighting a candle and spending a moment of silence to reflect, to grieve, and to remember them. Every single life, every individual, every scared animal condemned to the horrors of live export... you are not just a number to us. You are not cargo. We see you. You were someone. You deserved so much more. You deserve to be remembered. May you rest in peace.

22.01.2022 WARNING DISTRESSING POST Late yesterday afternoon, a woman was walking at the top weir track in Emerald and found a blue cattle dog beaten to death and a r...ed cattle dog barely alive next to him. She was also beaten senseless and left with a snapped neck, crushed skull, broken back, fractured legs and the list just goes on. She was taken to the vet but Her injury list was so extensive that she had to be put down for her own suffering. I'm glad she wasn't alone when she died. Her blue friend wasn't so lucky. He died in a cold bush in agony and with out anyone with him. YOU HAVE OPTIONS. You can surrender dogs to rescues or even the pound. You don't need to beat them to death. If you're going through a tough time, please call beyond blue and walk away. Don't take it out on defenseless animals like a coward. The photos of the male are too graphic to share Justice for Red and Blue

19.01.2022 Animals Australia. Australian Veterinary Association. RSPCA QLD. Animal Welfare League Qld. These groups and ALQ were part of government meetings last year to d...evelop Rodeo Standards & Guidelines for Qld. All five groups are united in their opposition to calf roping. But time is running out to pass legislation banning calf roping before the state election on October 31. Agriculture Minister Mark Furner MP for Ferny Grove needs to act urgently and we need your help to remind him in 2020 how many people care about this issue. TO MAKE THIS SUPER EASY WE HAVE A NEW TEMPLATE LETTER AT www.RethinkRodeos.com. which takes just a few seconds to send off to the Minister. Its a reminder to him that: (a) calf roping needs to be prohibited under the new Qld Rodeo Standards & Guidelines and (b) the legislation needs to be introduced urgently. Please lets not let the calves down at this crucial stage! ACT NOW and head to www.RethinkRodeos.com

18.01.2022 For 132 days now, the Cairns Regional Council have been causing extreme distress to the Spectacled Flying Foxes who have been living in the trees at the City L...ibrary for generations. Over the last decade, the Council have removed 43 Spectacled Flying Fox roost trees from the CBD, mainly to make way for development. The remaining 4 trees at the CBD Library holds 10% of the entire population of Spectacled Flying Foxes. It is a preferred location for pup rearing. But the Council don't want them there. Nor do their friends at Crystalbrook Collection hotels, across the road. So, they have been dispersing them, well into birthing and pup rearing season. We are now facing a scary time with the weather warming up. This is a critically important time for the Spectacled Flying Foxes with pup rearing, and every day that the dispersal continues the population is put under more & more stress. They are a keystone species. They are vitally important for the ecosystem. They are endangered, and are supposed to be protected under QLD state laws. Please ask the government to put a stop to this dispersal now https://alq.org.au/stop-sff-dispersal

14.01.2022 He lived at one of the many feedlots in Queensland, Beef City, near Toowoomba. Every day was the same, denied of his natural instinct to graze, stressed, confus...ed & with very little shade. He could have been on this feedlot from anywhere between 100 to 300 days, before being mustered to the slaughterhouse to be killed. The drought has seen a huge increase in cattle being sent to feedlots in Queensland. There are hundreds of thousands of cattle sweltering in feedlots in the hot QLD sun right now. Feedlots- factory farms for cattle.

14.01.2022 The Lilydale kangaroos will enjoy peace for a little while longer... I have this morning secured another stay this time until Tuesday afternoon. I am making ...a formal application to the department, forwarded to the Environment Minister, that outlines a comprehensive rescue and relocation plan. It involves highly skilled and qualified vets, darters and rescuers, with a location near to the site secured for their initial soft release and monitoring. If accepted, they would stay together on a 100-acre property with ample space for them. It is important to note that the department considers that the average death rate on translocation is 40 percent and that that is unacceptable. Despite this being totally untrue (I spoke to another expert last night who recently relocated hundreds of kangaroos, with less than 0.5 percent mortality rate) Id just like to point out that under their current let's kill everyone plan, the death rate is 100 percent. I know for a fact which plan is acceptable to the public.

13.01.2022 This is daisy! She is a tri colored 14 month old beagle. I lost her today between Townsville and wallamen falls, if anyone has seen her or knows anything can you please let me know ASAP. Thanks

13.01.2022 Its not long before the state election on October 31. Time is running out for Queenslands Agriculture Minister to make the long-overdue decision to ban calf r...oping at Qld rodeos, just as it already is in Victoria and South Australia. He has known for many months that all animal protection groups involved in developing Qlds Rodeo Standards agree this cruel event must be prohibited. PLEASE USE OUR NEW EMAIL TEMPLATE AT www.RethinkRodeos.com to remind the Minister that you are counting on him to ban calf roping before the state election. No more delays!!! No more excuses!!! (Even if you have sent previous emails on this issue, we sincerely hope you can help us and the calves again in 2020. A decision is so close now and we want the Minister to be reminded of how many people care.)

13.01.2022 My boyfriend found this little guy at work this morning wondering around the unit complex on bridge street, unfortunately he’s had to bring him to the pound bec...ause the vet wouldn’t take him and he had to get back to work... the poor little guy seemed quite scared and shaky, I hope his owners get him back safe See more

13.01.2022 These photos were taken yesterday at Brisbane Animal Save's vigil at Australian Country Choice. These cattle would have spent the last few months of their life... on a feedlot, before being transported on a cramped truck to Brisbane, where today, they were violently slaughtered. Please see them. They deserve so much better. Take the 30 Day vegan challenge www.Vegan4Life.org.au Heather Harrington & Tiffany McLaughlan

12.01.2022 Back in October Minister Furner said This government will come down hard on these people if they are found to be in breach of the Animal Care and Protection Ac...t, which provides up to 7 years in jail. And Ill make sure of that as the Minister responsible. Yet his actions this year show a complete failure to take animal cruelty seriously. The Minister routinely talks tough on animal welfare - claiming he will come down hard and that Queensland has the toughest animal welfare laws in the country Despite talking tough at the press conference following the 7.30 exposé in October, he took no action against Meramist, with only small fines handed to three individuals. Took far too long to act on starving horses in Charlton near Toowoomba. Now he has admitted his own department doesnt even know where the remaining horses are, despite the offender having previous convictions for animal cruelty. Grants have been awarded to several abattoirs including Carey Bros, who were exposed last year for 22 breaches of the Animal Care and Protection Act (for which they received no charges). He backflipped on removing shark nets, ignoring his own governments scientific advice, resulting in many whale entanglements over the migration season (including again today!). He has failed to ban calf roping, against the advice of all animal protection groups. If youre as angry as we are about this ministers failures, please share this post and tag Mark Furner MP for Ferny Grove and ask him when he plans to come down hard on these people.

10.01.2022 Warning- strong language Whilst the Cairns Regional Council continue with their dispersal of Spectacled Flying Foxes, the council next-door are doing this. Mare...eba Shire Council are shooting guns in broad daylight to disperse this huge colony of flying foxes after they had already settled for the day. This is just over 50km from Cairns. The accumulating stress these poor animals must be under, being scared away from multiple camps, under attack from local governments when all Flying Foxes are meant to be protected under Queensland law. We have made enquiries with Queensland Environment Department and Leeanne Enoch MP about this. In the meantime, please add your voice to help stop the dispersal in Cairns https://www.alq.org.au/stop-sff-dispersal Video - Kate Mascall

08.01.2022 RSPCA QLD: Jail Time for Animal Abuser Mr. C. SAMMONS suffocated his dog and left him to rot. It’s hard to comprehend how someone could be so vial towards a... living creature and still claim to ‘love animals’. SAMMONS was yesterday found guilty of 1 charge of animal cruelty and 1 charge of failing to provide treatment for his 1 year old red cattle dog, Freckles. Magistrate Browne said when sentencing the defendant to imprisonment, that the penalty reflected general deterrence and public denouncement of Sammons’ conduct. Freckles was suffering from injuries sustained a few weeks prior to his death, which SAMMONS claimed were inflicted by a horse. The witness stated Freckles was dragging his legs, unable to walk, and crawling on his front legs in obvious distress. Rather than seeking veterinary treatment, SAMMONS took his dog out to the bush and suffocated him with a plastic bag, returning to tell the witness he had taken Freckles for ‘his last car ride’. It’s unimaginable the pain and suffering Freckles would have endured for weeks and then to have this terrible end. When our Inspector found Freckles’ skeletal remains discarded in the bush, Freckles still had a large galvanised chain and stainless steel D-shackle collar attached around his neck. Magistrate Terence Browne heard the matter at Cairns Magistrate Court on November 9, 2020. SAMMONS appeared via video link from jail in Townsville. SAMMONS pleaded guilty to both charges, one of failure to treat Freckle’s injuries and one cruelty charge related to the suffocation of Freckles with a plastic bag. Magistrate Browne said the Statement of Facts was disturbing to read and the only way to describe the conduct was cruel. He also took into account SAMMONS’ extensive criminal history. In addition to sentencing Sammons to an actual term of imprisonment for his offending, Magistrate Browne ordered that Sammons be prohibited from owning animals for life. Magistrate Browne sentenced SAMMONS to: Six months imprisonment for charge 1 (failure to treat). Twelve months imprisonment for charge 2 (Cruelty). Imprisonment to be served concurrently and eligible for parole after 4 months. A lifetime prohibition order. Court costs of $101.80. Legal professional costs $1,200. If you witness animal cruelty, contact our 24/7 Animal Emergency Hotline 1300 ANIMAL.

07.01.2022 This is normally the weekend when Australias richest rodeo, the Mount Isa Rodeo, takes place but Covid-19 caused its cancellation months ago. Unfortunately a ...virtual rodeo has been organised in its place. This virtual rodeo still involves real animals being exploited, except this time its happening on private properties instead of the Mount Isa arena. Back in July, timed event competitors were invited to film themselves roping calves and wrestling steers etc. They then had to upload footage of their fastest times to be in the running for big prizes. Those poor calves and steers. For the roughstock events such as bull riding, pre-pandemic footage was required. An edited version of submitted videos will be broadcast by the Mount Isa Rodeo tonight. Whats the bet that no injuries or very distressed animals will be shown in tonights broadcast? No doubt it will be quite a contrast to the incidents at rodeos we have documented for years.

01.01.2022 Great news for all of us who fought so hard for justice for the dead and starving horses owned and abused by Terry Oberle at Charlton near Toowoomba He has been charged and will appear in the Toowoomba Magistrates Court 30 September. Sadly he was allowed to take the remaining emaciated horses to a secret place away from public scrutiny. A million thanks to those who helped me to arrange feed for them for the months before the department would act, and for helping with the political advocacy , keeping watch over them, and the general support.
