25.01.2022 Its the final day of @Mental Health Week WA, and last up is the other half of our Director duo, Aimee! A focus on the well-being and mental health of people in all professions is so important. Especially as lawyers, we are often under high pressure, high stress situations, which then have negative impacts on your body and mind. Having staff now, whose mental health you feel responsible for, has made me more aware of our team culture, the ways we interact with one another..., and how we can nurture and support our team. Its so important to Kyran and I that our team feel supported. Having open dialogue within the firm, and a no question is a silly question approach, we have created a team culture that I am truly proud of. I love walking, and getting out in nature to help clear my mind. Ive also recently started cycling, and am doing a 200km cycle in just a few weeks. Wish me luck!

18.01.2022 Today is World Mental Health Day Kyran is one part of our Director duo, the sole male of the firm, and he constantly has us in stitches. Here is his take on mental health The legal field can often present a myriad of challenges to our daily lives. Not only do we hold the highest expectations of ourselves to be the best for our client, but we are also challenged by the Court and opposing counsel on a frequent basis. It is easy to let the pressure leak into our personal li...ves in such a high-pressure environment where we ourselves strive to be perfectionists without flaw. Sometimes when matters veer out of the usual course it is natural for us as human beings to question our credentials and to doubt ourselves. No matter what we have managed to accomplish or how many times we are successful for our clients, it is easy to let that one difficult file be the central focus of our thoughts and to lead us to a sense of anxiety and depression. It is easy to let this spiral out of control if we do not have appropriate coping mechanisms in place. From my personal experience I cannot stress enough the importance of opening to a positive support system and not internalising these feelings. If we do not reach out to our friends and loved ones we inevitably get lost in these negative thoughts and make problems bigger in our head than they actually are. Other coping mechanisms for me include having a quality time with my wife, kids and other family members where possible. I have also recently taken up the guitar which has positively assisted me in switching off from the workplace when I get home. Otherwise I also enjoy playing soccer and doing other outdoor activities. At Affinitas Legal we strive to provide our staff with a balanced lifestyle and to assist them with these types of issues. We have found this approach dramatically increases performance within the workplace

11.01.2022 Day Two of Mental Health Week WA! Our wonderful Pri is our Practical Legal Trainee. Pri will be admitted as a lawyer in December, and this is arguably one of the most stressful, and anxious times for grads. Here is what Pri has to say about mental health: Starting a career in law can be very daunting and can lead to a lot of self pressure to ensure you're doing a good job and doing the right thing by your clients. It's easy to get overwhelmed when you keep feeling the fe...ar of not letting anyone down, especially the clients who trust you to provide them with the assistance they're seeking. I am lucky enough to work with colleagues and supervisors who are supportive and make the effort to lead by example in maintaining a healthy work life balance. Working in an environment where everyone has open conversations about any anxieties that we face is really helpful too. Learning from experienced lawyers who are genuinely kind people and practice ethically makes me look forward to coming to work everyday which is a great feeling! We make it a point to sit down together and have lunch when we can just to make time for each other and to take a break. I enjoy spending time with friends and family and unwinding with a good cup of tea and scented candles

03.01.2022 STACEY | Stacey is a dedicated and effective solicitor, with experience in reaching agreements in both property settlements and childrens matters, in spite of complicated circumstances. Stacey specialises in family law and estate planning. She reads between the lines to understand the deeper issues which often underlie the difficulties in reaching agreements. Stacey combines problem solving with the ability to anticipate, and then circumvent, the places where potential probl...ems may arise. Holding a Bachelor of Laws from Murdoch University, in addition to a Graduate Diploma of Legal Practice, Stacey is also recognised as a legal practitioner in the Supreme Court of Western Australia. Further, Stacey also holds a bachelors degree in Psychology and Criminology. Staceys experience includes a vast number of property settlements by consent, and divergent thinking when it comes to orders for childrens cases. She also has experience in estate matters encompassing complex property considerations and trusts. Stacey has a strength in clearly and regularly communicating with her clients to ensure any potential anxiety or stress is minimised. Her calm and client-centred approach is a true fit for the Affinitas Legal philosophy.

03.01.2022 2020 | Our staff have now returned to the office for 2020 refreshed and recharged, however our thoughts remain with those not only battling fires on the eastern coast, but also in our home state of Western Australia. We hope that reprieve (and rainfall) comes soon to our beautiful country. We also take this opportunity to welcome our newest team member Priyanka ("Pri") to Affinitas Legal. Pri joins our team as our newest solicitor, and is the perfect addition to our team. We look forward to a bright future with you.

02.01.2022 Its Mental Health Week WA! Our profession is notorious for poor mental health, and as lawyers we often deal with people struggling with their own mental health. We asked our team about mental health, and what it means to them. Heres what Stacey had to say: I suppose family lawyers tend to work with clients who are experiencing high levels of stress, uncertainty and a process that is very much out of their control (irrespective of whether they have initiated it or not). W...e empathize with our clients situation and, therefore, cannot help but want to ease as much of the anxiety which is inevitably produced. This means receiving emails over weekends and after hours throughout the week. Feelings of guilt surrounding billing clients who are having financial difficulties and having to assertively emphasize legal obligations at times when we know our clients are understandably emotionally vulnerable. Most of the time, our clients are exceptionally emotionally intelligent and deal with these elements incredibly. However, occasionally it places us in the position of being the bad guy and being on the receiving end of venting. To release, I enjoy long-distance running while listening to very uncool music, yin yoga and going to the beach as often as possible. My workplace is also very balanced. We have a foosball table, indoor plants, daylight and constant quirky humour. We recently had an office masseuse attend too! See more
