Wellness is a long-term lifestyle journey, it requires dedication and commitment to achieve. Unfortunately, this makes it inaccessible for the many who have poor access to appropriate education... and resources such as wellness therapists and programs. A wellness model differs from the healthcare model in that not only does it encompass our physical biochemistry but considers all of the following life areas: Movement and the physical body Nutrition Psychology / Mental health Environment Sleep Relationships Finances Personal & spiritual development Career It is only when this web of wellness is well-spun that we have the resources we need to create and maintain a state of vibrant wellness that allows us to feel empowered and in control of our own lives, especially when there is an external threat to our health. Under the COVID-19 restrictions, many of the above areas of wellness have been overlooked and disregarded, which will potentially lead to a less healthy population of people post-pandemic. 14.01.2022 Are you passionate about the work that you do? Did you know: The word passion comes from Latin root Pati-, which can be translated to mean suffering, or enduring. Having a passion for something does not mean that we necessarily enjoy the pursuit of our goals, rather that we are committed to them and willing to endure suffering for a greater cause. What I have found in my coaching and consulting work is that ones true passion is often best indicated by the amount of energy ...they are willing to put towards a pursuit. By asking your self three questions, you can begin to determine your level of passion about your work. Ask yourself: 1. For what pursuit am I WILLING to meet with hardship or obstacles? Ie. What am I willing to suffer for? 2. Towards which pursuit/s does the majority of my time and energy go? 3. What makes me feel alive and invigorated and is worth the time and energy I allocate? It is possible to pursue a passion as a hobby or a career path, and either is completely acceptable. Many of us get caught up in the idea that if we dont follow our passions, we are somehow blocking our chance to be happy or prosperous. I argue that the idea that following ones passion equates to success or happiness is faulty based on the definition of passion itself. Others tie their self-worth to the degree to which they are successful in pursuing their passions. Passion can change. A long time ago, I was a professional dancer. During that time, I was willing to dedicate my energy towards building a successful entertainment business. At that time, I was genuinely passionate about the work I was doing, but at some point, things changed. I began to experience the symptoms of burnout and decreased enthusiasm for the job. It became more like a burden than a passionate pursuit. Eventually, I decided that I was no longer willing to put the energy required into the pursuit of that passion, so instead of holding on to something that was no longer invigorating me and instead of pretending I was still passionate about it I let go and created space for transformation. As I let go, I created space for new passions to emerge. I am always in awe of my clients who are passionate about changing their lives. It is the clients who come to me with the willingness to commit to the inner work needed who get the most benefit from our work together. This means significant changes for Affinity Wellness as I will be packing up the gorgeous Camberwell clinic space for the foreseeable future. My last day in clinic will be Thursday, February 20th (not that far away)! Im already fully booked for 2019 so get your New Years bookings in quickly ... 05.01.2022 In my childhood I was often told that as long as I did my best it was good enough. Recently, I have noticed both in my work with clients and in some of my relationships that there is a trend amongst some to use their best as an excuse. Have you ever heard someone say I did my best or It was the best I could do to excuse a lack of interest, effort or laziness? What I have found is that when we define an effort as our best we block our ability to do any better. We... make the statement that this is as far as I am willing to go and that I am not willing to learn from this experience and try better. I caught myself out the other day telling myself that I was doing my best and upon realising my excuse I asked myself what could I do better which led to a list of numerous ways in which I could work to change my situation. 03.01.2022 As a wellness worker I strongly oppose this legislation, I prefer to leave the choice in the hands of the educated and informed healthcare workers in the system. >>>> Legislation announced by Andrews Government last week, allowing for any vaccine to be made mandatory for frontline workers in the health system, including cleaners and staff at aged care facilities. ... "Our new laws will mean healthcare workers must be fully immunized to protect themselves and patients against the flu each year, as well as whooping cough, measles, chicken pox and hepatitis B." By the looks of the act any other vaccines, such as Hepatitis A and TB, could be added to this list. Also Ensuring our dedicated healthcare workers are vaccinated provides them with a greater level of personal protection, while also reducing the spread of diseases to vulnerable patients. - apart from this being a gross violation of human rights, the science just does not concur with this statement.
