20.01.2022 Hot off the press... Applications for the Home Improvement Scheme close this Friday 31 May 2017... The NT Government’s boosted Home Improvement Scheme (HIS) brought back as a stimulus measure to create work for tradies and smaller contractors - will close this Friday, 2 June 2017 at 5pm. The scheme has generated $60 million into the local economy so far, and this is expected to increase once the full $15 million in grants has been allocated. Acting Chief Minister Natasha Fyles said the scheme had seen over 5,000 homeowner-occupiers leap into action and access up to $4,000 for renovations and upgrades. While the scheme will close to new applications on Friday, there is still a significant pipeline of jobs to be completed before the scheme ends, Ms Fyles said. The scheme and other stimulus programs will continue to provide an economic boost over the coming months until the government’s capital works and record $297 million for repairs and maintenance kicks in. Of the 4,383 vouchers issued, only 870 vouchers totalling approximate $2.3 million have been redeemed, which means the work hasn’t yet been completed or the tradie hasn’t yet claimed their payment. There are also around 580 applications yet to be assessed, and I expect the department will receive quite a few more over the next couple of days. All eligible applications that that have been approved will be honoured. There is also a lot of work remaining in the pipeline from the Immediate Work Grants, with around one-third of the 300 applications received still at various stages of assessment. Immediate Work Grants totalling $14.5 million have been issued so far to Territory community organisations. Additionally, more than $2.3 million in Home Renovation Grants have been approved for first homebuyers, generating an estimated economic impact of $4.5 million. For homeowners still wanting to access the scheme they can register for a voucher online at https://homeimprovement.nt.gov.au by 5pm Friday.
