21.01.2022 I know I've said this a lot lately, but Victorians really are doing an incredible job. We've gone from more than 700 new daily cases to low double digits in jus...t over a month. Our averages are falling, and we're moving forward. That means from 11:59pm tonight, Melbourne moves to the Second Step in the roadmap towards reopening. Over 125,000 workers will go back to work this week with those in permitted industries returning to on-site work around metro Melbourne. Primary school, VCE and VCAL, and specialist schools will begin a gradual return to the classroom from 12 October. And childcare centres will re-open for all kids, taking some pressure off parents who're working from home. We're easing restrictions on outdoor public gatherings too. From Monday, up to five people from two separate households can meet for a picnic in the park, to kick a footy or just to catch up outside. Outdoor pools will open up again, and outdoor religious ceremonies can occur with up to five people (plus a faith leader). And because we said we'd lift it the moment we could and the Chief Health Officer has advised we can the curfew will no longer be in place after tonight. These changes mean that our strategy is working and we could never have reached this point without the individual efforts of every Victorian. But we're still in a pandemic. This virus is still in our community. And even with lower numbers - the danger isn't over. That's why staying local and limiting movement across the city is crucial and why the 5km limit will remain in place. With more people moving around our city, the requirements for how we wear masks outside are also being strengthened: From tomorrow you’ll need a face mask that fits properly over your nose and mouth. That means face shields, scarves, and bandanas can no longer be used on their own. Like always, this change is based on the advice of our public health team and the best strategy to stop this virus spreading. The other big change we announced today is to the roadmap itself. Going forward, instead of having to reach both a set date and a case number target to trigger a public health review we're now using case numbers plus a minimum gap of three weeks to prompt our next steps. This means we could reach COVID Normal faster if the 14-day average, mystery case numbers, and public health advice allow it. And it'll give everyone a better understanding of when, and how, things might change. Our success in getting the numbers down quickly gives us this flexibility and that's because of you. But while we are beating this virus and exceeding the modelling too we aren't out of the woods just yet. I know some people want to move faster and go further, and I wish we could too. But to rush these steps and open up too quickly would be, quite frankly, irresponsible. Small freedoms gained by easing a few more restrictions now would jeopardise our larger wins down the track and would likely slow our progress. No one wants that. Our biggest enemy is complacency, our biggest challenge is staying the course. And if we pretend this is over we'll risk everything we've sacrificed so much for. We're fighting a frightening enemy a virus that's already done so much damage right around the world. So please keep your foot on the pedal, don't let all our hard work slip. It's up to every one of us to see this through.

02.01.2022 For the first time since 29 February, we have no active cases in Victoria. This is such an achievement and something every single Victorian should be so proud... of. Now we start work on the recovery. Not just going back to 'normal' but building a stronger, fairer better state. And that's what today's Budget is all about. This doesn't mean it's all over not by a long shot. We will get cases and outbreaks in the future and we'll need to deal with them. But for today, this is a number well worth celebrating. And it all comes down to you.
