12.01.2022 The Pont Notre-Dame is considered the most ancient bridge in Paris due to the fact that one bridge or another has always existed in its place. The first bridge ...in Paris, Grand-Pont, was built here but was destroyed in the 9th century during the Norman invasion. The next bridge, Planches de Mibray, was built but then swept away by floods in 1406. The first bridge bearing the name Notre-Dame was constructed in 1413 and one time held up to 60 houses. The current version of the bridge was inaugurated in 1919. Each arch has a stone-carved head of Dionysius. See more
