25.01.2022 Assalam Alaykum, as we continue to improve our operations and seek to drive best practice principles in the Halal sector, transparency is a key value that we aspire to. In that vein therefore we share below some more information about what is involved in the certification process, the competencies we require of our auditors and some of key factors in halal auditing. We firmly believe that the more the Muslim community understands about these issues, the more discerning it ...Continue reading

22.01.2022 Assalam Alaykum, AFIC will be starting a series of meetings with Federal Politicians next week on issues of key concern to our community. This will be the begin...ning of a revamped program of work around our advocacy function. Next week we are meeting with Peter Dutton, Home Affairs Minister, Christian Porter the AG and Mark Dreyfus the Shadow AG. While we have been preparing for these meetings we wanted to get some direct input from the community as well. So what is the 1 or 2 things that you would like to see the Federal Government change, improve on or respond to that is important to you or to our community. Jazakallahu Kheirun AFIC

15.01.2022 Alhamdulillah for a great couple of days. The obligation we take on as a halal certifying body is an onerous one and is not something that we take lightly. Developing a culture of continuous learning, professional development and all underpinned by a our Islamic principle of Ihsan is what we are seeking. It is important for us to earn and maintain the trust of our community so that you have confidence in the role we play on your behalf. We renew our intention to serve Allah(swt) first and foremost and that our work is based on nothing other than our Isamic principles. We extent our sincerest thanks to the Malaysian Ministry of Religious Affairs (JAKIM) for putting this weekends program together.

14.01.2022 Assalam Alaykum, periodically we will be sharing the principles that underpin our certification work inshaAllah. We will do this because we believe that the members of our community should be aware of how these decisions are made so that you can make genuinely informed decisions about what you consume. The first of these is in relation to fast food/takeaway outlets. AFIC Halal Authority will not certify any store as halal if it serves any pork product on its menu regardless... of what segregation processes it has. At this stage we are not confident that any such segregation will hold up under pressure or during peak trading times and the risk of cross contamination is too high. Further there are now many permissible substitutes to these pork products that there is no real reason, in our view, for them to remain on the menu if the outlet wishes to be Halal. We ask you all to remember that these stores want certification to entice Muslim clients to their premises because they see the value in that segment of the market. We can, and should, demand more for our patronage. We will continue to work with our clients to bring change to the halal consumer market so that the Muslim community has genuine options as all other Australians inshaAllah. AHA Team.
13.01.2022 The Australian Senate this morning passed a motion to ban the export of live sheep. The motion needs to go before the lower house and is unlikely to get through there. This is a very complex situation but the treatment of animals in Islam, particularly those earmarked for slaughter, is fundamental to the principles of halal and tayyabun. Regardless of the political issues we need to ensure that live export animals are treated humanely.

03.01.2022 Assalam Alaykum, We often get queries for copies of halal certificates and unfortunately have to decline such requests. We thought it appropriate to explain why. The actual certificate is evidence of the certification for a product and is a controlled document. We do not allow any copies to be circulated and a company may have its certification withdrawn if it allows unauthorized use or copying of a certificate. This is because, unfortunately, some people get possession of s...uch copies and place them in their establishments to make people think they are certified when they are not. Even if the supplier is certified this does not mean that the retailer is. Just because they may source their raw material from a halal source is no guarantee about what happens to that material on site. If a certificate is not original or does not have a current date do NOT accept it as evidence. Only when we collectively start demanding a higher standard from retailers will we change practices. Remember that by claiming to be halal that establishment is trying to attract your business. The least they can then do is respect our beliefs and be properly certified. Dont accept dodgy claims.

03.01.2022 We understand that there is an issue circulating around the permissibility of Cadbury products. This is something that arises every now and then and is linked to a false news story in Asia of several years ago. AFIC Halal Authority certifies Cadbury products manufactured in Australia. The list of certified products is kept up to date on the Cadbury website. The link is below: https://cadbury.com.au/Products/Halal-Products.aspx

01.01.2022 It has come to our attention that there is a petition circulating on social media purporting to be from the Muslim community and seeking to have the Eid days de...clared as public holidays. No official MUSLIM organisation is seeking such a thing and we would ask all members of the community to ignore this petition and advise their family and friends likewise.
