25.01.2022 Sawtell Seniors set the tone at the earlier game, defeating the All-Stars; who would be asking themselves if the rep squad jumpers and nominated team moniker is justified after a winless start to the 9’s season. Woopi were outclassed by the Sawtell Masters in the later fixture, and the Sawtell team which is made up of mums and dads now sit undefeated at the top of the ladder. In this week’s draw card fixture, the Swans played North Roos. The game came down to the wire, with f...itness and jumper pride getting the bloods home with a super-goal the difference between the two teams! AFL9’s tip of the week: Sawtell Seniors showed their footy smarts by making the most of the shortened distance which marks are paid at; they did this by kicking to their immediate neighbour in order to get the ball into the hands of an allocated goal-kicker. The Masters did similar with their prominent female goal kicker, who slotted two 9-point super-goals off the back of lead up marks.
21.01.2022 OLD rivalries will be reignited at 5:40 when sawtell/toormi Saints take on the Swan’s, followed by the Roo’s taking on The Northern Blues, and the All-Star taking on the Sawtell Masters at 6:30. Get down for a kick and the BBQ!

02.01.2022 ***GAME-TIME REMINDER*** 6:00pm start tomorrow, with the follow up games at 6:45! ***RULE UPDATE*** As skills and understanding of the game have been developing, the 9’s league will now be enforcing an even mix of genders throughout the field of play! This means that one female, and two male players will be expected to be present in each third, and significantly this also allows for gender rotations through the ball up’s. We hope to see on-ballers putting their hands up to pu...t a few more km’s in the legs this week! There will also be sausage sanga’s available this week, so we can all watch sawtell play an intra-club grudge match with a full belly
02.01.2022 It was great to see 6 teams from Sawtell, Coffs Harbour, and Woopi, down at Reg Ryan Oval. The grass was fresh mowed, and players showed their foot-skills on the quick oval. Old hands took to the new sport, and AFL9’s specialists were identified. Lachy ‘Tuffy’ Tawhiti was one such specialist, and donned a red-and-black singlet for the Sawtell Saints fixture against the Roos, and backed-up his powerful game with more familiar Coffs team mates, and his partner Emma Higgins. The... Roos captain, Nicklaus Stanlan-Velt’s took the candy against Sawtell in the 5:40 fixture. Their performance was helped by the extra points allotted to female players’ goals, with Bella Crawley and Danielle Watson playing significant roles up forward. The Velt’s are synonymous with AFL on the North Coast, and they will be difficult to beat with the recruiting power of having WAG’s, cousins, and childhood friends in the old Roos lineup. Other teams vying for victory in this competition include the Swans, made up of Coffs Swans old boys and girls, The young (and old) Northern Blues, Sawtell Mums-and-Dads, and the ‘All-Stars’ who are relative new comers to AFL. The fixture is set and the first weeks results are in. Get down on Monday’s to see past-players in old uniforms, father-son match ups, and new players finding their feet around AFL! contact admin for more info
01.01.2022 Last night’s early start saw teams stretched to put numbers on the park. Without the minimum number of ladies, the Swans borrowed from sawtell who put those players to use to get an early lead on their opposition. The game finished with the Swans 30-points up with them sitting on top of the table with two big wins. At 6:30, The Roos came up against the formative Blues squad, who put in a performance which they can be proud of. The Blues were marshalled by Mason who has recrui...ting well from Jetty High. Roos won 61-49, and join the swans at the top of the table; they will both vie for outright position in the 6:30 time-slot next week. The final game was between the All-Stars, and Sawtell Masters, with the Masters taking their second victory and joining Roos and Swans at the top. The league is shaping-up well, with old-hands, new recruits, and super-goals having significant roles in all games. There will also be more opportunity to get down on time next week with games being pushed back 10-minutes to capitalise on the longer days! Swans 2-2-0 Roos 2-2-0 S/T-Masters 2-2-0 S/T-Seniors 2-0-2 Blues. 2-0-2 All-Stars. 2-0-2
