25.01.2022 Fitzroy Lions 1996 Centenary Season White Away Playing Shorts. Sekem, size 20 (waist 96.5cm) with zip and sewn on 'Sport+' sponsor and Centenary patches. These were purchased from Fitzroy's end of year sale, which was sadly the clubs last season in the AFL. A massive thanks to the absolute legend who held these for me over the past few months, so stoked to add them to my collection. I am still seeking a Blue Fitzroy Training jumper and a Sekem sportwool 1996 Centenary jumper.
25.01.2022 Pretty slow mail week over here so thought I'd upload these unique items I picked up a few weeks back. 1. Saints 1996 runout/warmup jacket (MW). I love these designs so much, would love to collect all teams but got a big enough challenge on my plate at the moment. 2. 1997 AFL Grand Final Runners Up medal. I didn't even know these existed until recently, really cool item!... 3. St Kilda 1997 AFL Grand Final Cap as worn in the GF Parade (also have the Polo). Got these from a player but unsure if they retailed these, assuming they did. As always, if anyone has anything PI/MW of any team that fits my 1996 niche, please hit me up! Open to trades.
24.01.2022 Hawthorn Hawks Mid 90's Training Worn guernsey #14 Brendan Krummel. Sekem, size chest 105cm, acrylic material with sew on AFL Logo, front MBF sponsor, and numbers, with heat pressed MBF sponsors on both the front (covered over) and rear. Over the moon to add this one, as it fills a gap in my collection and as many collectors will know, Training jumpers are very hard to come by at the best of times. I'm not precisely aware of when these were first introduced at Hawthorn but th...ey were definitely used from 1995-1996. As pictured in this post, ex-Hawthorn greats used these Training jumpers for a Legends match at Glenferrie Oval in the pre-season of 1996. Whilst I am collecting every PI/MW match day design from the 1996 season, I generally only require one mid 90's Training jumper from each club, ideally it will be a rare Centenary badged version, but not essential. Like most acrylic match day jumpers of this era, Training jumpers were often re-used across several seasons (sometimes for over a decade!) and only very rarely did they exist with a Centenary logo. The Centenary versions would typically only exist if the club changed to a new design for the 1996 season, or introduced a new batch of an existing design. More often than not though the Training jumpers from previous seasons continued to be used - which is somewhat strange considering the massive effort the AFL went to in marketing the absolute crap out of its Centenary season and logo!
24.01.2022 Fremantle Dockers 1995-1998 Training Worn guernsey #9 Peter Mann. Nike, size XL, polyester and fully sublimated with the exception of the rear number and the 'Respect Yourself - Drink Safe' campaign patch on the front as worn on Fremantle training guernseys in this era. Exactly like the Green variant (Dale Kickett) I posted to the page yesterday, a sublimated Hard Yakka sponsor is hidden underneath the patch, as shown by the second photo of this post. Peter Mann was a member ...of the inaugural Fremantle Dockers team and notched up 116 senior AFL games through his time at both North Melbourne (1991-1994, 39 games) and Fremantle (1995-1999, 77 games). Mann was the Dockers leading goalkicker and Doig Medallist in the clubs first season in the AFL, a very special honour, and later went on to captain the club for the 1997-1998 seasons. I absolutely love the range of Nike Fremantle guernseys from the mid 90s era, and was very fortunate earlier this year to also obtain a rare Nike 1996 Centenary Home guernsey as donated to (and used by) one of Fremantle's international 'sister clubs', the Cincinatti Dockers. I am also keen to locate the Sekem acrylic variants of these training guernseys, however, I do suspect that will be some challenge as the Dockers donated a lot of their old gear to various places (who have now probably disposed of most of those items). I am also on the lookout for 1996 Centenary Home and Away guernseys as well as playing shorts if anyone manages to come across any. I will pay well for vintage Fremantle items as I appreciate their rarity and generally just love their 90's kit.
24.01.2022 On the hunt for any of the designs in the first photo. The remaining photos are some PI/MW items I'd consider TRADING if I can plug a gap in my collection (NFS). Get in touch if anything peaks your interest for Trade.
24.01.2022 The Nike Collection
23.01.2022 Happy Friday everybody! Just wanted to gauge interest on a possible Trade scenario. If anyone is interested in a MW Port Adelaide Gavin Wanganeen guernsey AND has one of the items pictured below to Trade (OR a PI/MW Essendon Wanganeen), please get in touch. Please only make contact if you have any of these items to Trade.
22.01.2022 Welcome back, Joey
22.01.2022 Fremantle Dockers Inaugural (1995-1996/7) Training Worn guernsey signed by #10 Stephen O'Reilly. Sekem, size chest 110cm, acrylic material (well worn) with sewn on AFL 90s Shield, vinyl front/rear Yakka logos and no number. Photos of these are quite scarce, however, according to the photographs from 1995, the vinyl Yakka across the belly was not present and may have been an addition for 1996/1997. Also, only a selection of the training guernseys had the 'Respect Yourself - Dr...ink Safe' patch on the front. It is likely this was worn by Stephen O'Reilly, however, I suspect this would be general training kit and would have been worn by many of the bigger blokes in the team at some stage for training sessions. What a bloody gem though - I absolutely love this one!! It's a really unique design not often seen, one that many wouldn't even have known to exist. These training guernseys were used from late 1994 onwards for Fremantle's entry into the AFL competition. Much like everything else the Dockers wore in the 90s era, it is vibrant, full of character and is absolutely mesmerising! Stephen O'Reilly played a total of 146 senior AFL matches at Geelong (1993-1994, 36 games), Fremantle (1995-1999, 98 games) and Carlton (2000, 12 games). Most notably, he played in Geelong's 1994 losing Grand Final side, and won Fremantle's Best & Fairest (Doig Medal) in 1996. These three Fremantle training guernseys I added this week therefore represent the first three Doig Medallists in Fremantle's history, which is pretty special! It's funny how this guernsey collecting thing works, despite proactively looking for one of these over the past few years I had literally NEVER seen one for sale or even seen one in a private collection. Upon making my offer for the Nike Fremantle training guernseys (that were listed on FB two weeks ago), I chanced my luck by asking the seller if they happened to have one of these specific guernseys as well. I could not believe my eyes when they sent me the photo of this a few days later ( <---- ME ). As most collectors will appreciate and understand, when the really rare items emerge you just have to play your best hand and hope for the best. As a niche collector in what is now an extremely competitive market things don't always fall your way, but I am so glad this one did! Nothing can beat filling gaps in your collection with items you never thought you would ever find!
21.01.2022 Ahead of Sir Doug Nicholls round, I'd just like to take the opportunity to acknowledge the amazing contribution that Indigenous Australians bring to our game, whether that be at the community or the elite level. I'd like to share some of the guernseys in my collection as worn by some absolutely unbelievable indigenous talents over the past 25 years. 21.01.2022 NSW/ACT RAMS 1996 TAC Cup / U18 National Championships guernsey Player Issue #14. The 1996 season was the first time the TAC Cup competition was expanded beyond Victoria, with the inclusion of the Tasmanian Mariners and the NSW/ACT RAMS (making it a 14 team competition at the time). As for the name, it represents the regions the players were drawn from (Riverina, Albury, Murrumbidgee, Sydney). Impressively, the RAMS finished runner-up in their debut TAC Cup season, and remai...ned in the competition until 2002. I am unsure at this stage whether all teams in the TAC Cup held the AFL Centenary logo on their guernsey, or whether this was only added for representative teams that would play in the Under 18 National Championships Carnival featuring teams like Vic Metro, Vic Country and other States/Territories (much like my Vic Metro version also in this post). In my research I discovered that Cameron Mooney played for the RAMS in the TAC Cup. He was drafted to North Melbourne with Pick 56 in the 1996 National Draft, going on to have a successful career, winning 3 premierships at both North Melbourne (1999) and Geelong (2007, 2009). If anyone has any photos from the 1996 TAC Cup or National Championships, or any other information I would love to hear from you.
20.01.2022 2021 AFL Centenary Year Collection Family Photo (AKA Leg Day ) The past 12 months were once again more active than the year prior. I say it every year, but I truly do expect things to slow down significantly this year with the focus being on filling the remaining gaps in my core colelction, and where possible, upgrading on designs I already have! As it stands, I require around 15 more items before I can declare some form of victory on collecting every design (in PI/MW) as ...worn by every team during the 1996 AFL Centenary Season (including Trainers and National U18 Championships). My goal for 2021 is to reduce this number of gaps down to 5 items The year 2020 saw me sell A LOT of my non-1996 gear to fund new items and upgrades. This is the sad but very necessary reality of collecting if you're like me and want to stay disciplined and 'collect within your means'. Despite moving on over 60 jumpers in 2020, my collection somehow managed to grow from 112 to 133 guernseys (shorts & knickerbockers excluded), with another 35-40ish not too far away. I am stoked with that, rekcon that is a fantastic result! Most of the items in these photos are NFS/NFT, HOWEVER, if you can help me fill a gap then I'm always open to trading/selling my non-1996 items to make that happen. If you have an interest to buy a particular item, don't hesitate to shoot me a message with an offer because I will continue to sell items in the coming year to fund the completion of this collection. Lastly, a massive thanks as always to the great followers of this page and the evergrowing network of big collectors out there. I've loved watching all of our collections grow over the years, and more recently it has been very satisfying to see some of you reach your finish line - my hat goes off to you! Looking forward to all the big finds in 2021!
20.01.2022 Essendon Bombers mid 90s Match Worn Training guernsey #16 (as worn by Dustin Fletcher). Sekem, size 100cm chest with front/rear sewed on Speed Kills sponsor panels and rear number. The Bombers predominantly wore a Red variant of training guernsey in the mid 90s, but these beautiful and rare White training jumpers occassionally got a run. The White variants were definitely used in 1995, however, I suspect they were also used between the years 1994-1996 despite having no photo ...evidence to prove that. The #16 guernsey was issued to Dale Kickett in 1994, not issued in to any player in 1995, and subsequently issued to Paul Barnard from 1996 onwards. As is still the case today, players didn't always necessarily wear their own number at training, and Fletch stated that despite not having his #31, this guernsey was regularly worn by him and comes from his personal collection. Dustin Fletcher is a dual premiership player with the Bombers, a dual All Australian Full Back, Essendon B&F winner in their 2000 premiership season and played 400 senior games for the Bombers between 1993-2015 before retiring as a seasoned 40 year old veteran! I had the absolute privilege of obtaining this guernsey directly from Fletch and had a good chat. Not only is he a superstar of our game but hands down he is an even better bloke!
19.01.2022 Melbourne Demons 1997 Ansett Cup guernsey Player Issue #21 Steven Febey. Nike, Size L, Polyester Coolmax material and fully sublimated (including numbers). Melbourne played just the one match in the 1997 Ansett Cup, a loss to Carlton at Waverley Park. I have reviewed the game in detail and can confirm that the Demons wore fully sublimated Nike jumpers....Continue reading
19.01.2022 Happy Valentines Day to my current Top 12! Hoping all the collectors out there get to spend some quality time with their most loved jumpers!!
19.01.2022 Brisbane Bears 1996 Centenary Season Player Issue (likely Match Worn) guernsey #17 Trent Bartlett. Puma, size 105cm chest, polyester material and fully sublimated. Trent Bartlett played a total of 81 senior AFL games at the Brisbane Bears (1995-1996, 22 games), Brisbane Lions (1997-1999, 17 games) and the Western Bulldogs (2000-2002, 42 games). Following his retirement he returned to his home state where he played for the Tasmanian Devils in the VFL between 2003-2006. I obtai...ned this guernsey (plus another Bears guernsey) in a very well balanced and mutually beneficial trade with another collector. In doing some research lately I've made some very interesting observations about Brisbane Bears centenary guernseys which I'll put into a dedicated post in the coming days. Stay tuned! If you want to see and follow another high quality collection please do yourself a favour and check out 'Brisbane Bear AFL VFL Collection' page.
17.01.2022 North Melbourne Kangaroos 1996 Centenary Grand Final Player Issue Spare Long Sleeve guernsey #24 Craig Sholl. Note this guernsey shows signs of wear and would have been worn at stages throughout the season prior to the Grand Final. Nike, size XL, polyester material, originally with sublimated Centenary logo and sponsors, and heat pressed numbers. I have noted in a previous post that North Melbourne used a few batches of Nike polyester guernseys in the 1996 season, with a few ...subtle variations existing in the Lightning Premiership and Ansett Cup, as well as a unique '5 Stripe' home guernsey early in the Home & Away season. Early in the 1996 Home & Away season the Kangaroos also updated their sponsor from the sublimated all capitals 'HYPERTEC' logo to a heat pressed 'Hypertec PCs' placed over the top on the front & rear of the guernsey. The Round 8 North Melbourne vs Richmond match at the MCG was the first match these heat pressed logos featured on the striped Home guernsey, though I did notice that the team wore a mix of both configurations in that game. The same guernseys were used for the 1996 Centenary Grand Final, with a heat pressed Grand Final logo placed over the top of the sublimated Centenary logo, as shown by the inside/outside comparison photos in this post. If you look closely you can even see the square outline of where the heat press has been applied to the guernsey to apply the updated centenary logo. Craig Sholl played 235 senior game of AFL for North Melbourne between 1987-2000. He is a dual premiership player for the Kangaroos (1996, 1999) and also won the club Best & Fairest (Syd Barker Medal) in 1991. Late in his career he became a notable goal kicker, including a bag of 6 in the 2000 preliminary final against the Demons at the MCG, a loss which would be his last game prior to his retirement. North Melbourne played the Sydney Swans in the 1996 AFL Centenary Grand Final. Sholl booted two goals in the match as the Kangaroos went on to defeat the Swans by 43 points, claiming their third VFL/AFL premiership - the only gold premiership cup in history! This premiers guernsey is a true centrepiece of this collection! I was aware of this guernsey and had been tracking it for a little while, but it came as a complete surprise to see it listed for sale this morning. Just want to throw a huge thanks to those that notified me of the listing, and I also received some really nice messages of support from various collectors who were very happy to see it added to this collection - a nice sense of community there and we all rely on helping one another to achieve our ambitious goals, so thank you to the many of you who helped and/or got in touch
16.01.2022 Open to trades/offers on these items.
16.01.2022 A massive THANK YOU to all the followers of this page, so stoked to hit the 700 Likes milestone today! It has been a massively successful year of collecting thus far with the collection progressing significantly closer to the goal of every design worn by every club in the 1996 Centenary Season. Always interested to upgrade on items I already have too, so please keep me in mind of you come across any Player Issue or Match Worn guernseys from the mid 90s. Cheers!
14.01.2022 How good was Aker sporting the old 'Sekem-under-the-Puma' look at the Bears in 96! Long Sleeves Of The AFL If anyone has any 1996 PI/MW of ANY CLUB, I'd love to hear from you! Top $$$ paid for the right items.
14.01.2022 Fitzroy Lions 1996 Centenary Season Re-enactment guernsey Player Issue #31 Matthew Dent. Sekem size chest 100cm, sportwool material with sewn on patches and numbers. Matthew Dent played 118 senior games of AFL spread across three clubs, Fitzroy (1994-1996, 47 games), Western Bulldogs (1997-2000, 63 games) and Hawthorn (2001, 8 games). Fitzroy played a strong Carlton side at Princes Park in the 1996 Centenary Re-enactment Round, with the Blues (like many other sides that seaso...n) using the game against the Roys as a nice percentage booster, winning by over 10 goals. Matthew Dent played in the match, collecting 19 disposals and kicking a goal. It was common for players to be issued two guernseys for the re-enactment round, with only those likely to be used being fully prepared for the match. This is a very likely explanation for the absence of the rear Clipsal sponsor patch on this particular guernsey. To complete the Fitzroy component of my collection I am still seeking a Sekem (Sportwool) Home PI/MW guernsey as used in the later rounds of 1996, Sekem (acrylic/wool) Blue Training guernsey and White (Away) Fitzroy PI/MW playing shorts. Please get in touch if you are willing to part with any of these items :)
13.01.2022 Hawthorn Hawks 1996 Centenary Season Playing Shorts. Sekem (Size waist 77cm) with sewn on MBF sponsor and Centenary patch. I am still seeking any Puma Hawks guernseys from 1996.
13.01.2022 Big clean out today including moving the collection into these awesome storage cabinets. Was running out of space on my racks so had been wanting to do something like this for ages. Big thanks to Port Adelaide Collection Page for inspiring the upgrade!
13.01.2022 I picked up these two Fitzroy Lions 1996 Centenary Season Player Issue guernseys at a recent auction. One of the main things I love about collecting this era is the amount of information a single guernsey can give you. Given the high numbers, these two guernseys would have been used in the Reserves competition between 1994 - 1996. Each of these jumpers show clear and obvious evidence of having the 90's AFL Shield present prior to replacement with the Centenary logo. As Clipsa...Continue reading
13.01.2022 All decked out for an AFL Grand Final Day like no other, one that's so fitting for a year that's had both everything and nothing at the same time (for Melburnians anyway...). We're on the Geelong Cats today, hoping they can send Gary Ablett Jnr out on a high! Who you got?? If anyone has any Geelong 1996 Knickerbockers or Richmond FC PI/MW gear, please get in touch!
13.01.2022 Essendon Bombers 1993 Grand Final Player Issue guernsey #21 Dean Wallis, beautifully signed across the sash by Player (Wallis), Captain (Thompson) and Coach (Sheedy). Sekem, size chest 110cm and made of acrylic material with sewn on patches and numbers. Whilst not worn specifically in the 1993 Grand Final, this guernsey was worn at times throughout the Home and Away season. As shown by the photos I was able to find a photomatch from the Round 21 match against Geelong at Kardi...nia Park, a game where Wallis went off in the Third Quarter due to an injury sustained in the Ruck. The numbers line up perfectly relative to the sash and some unique kinks at the bottom of the 2 and the top of 1 are also noticeable. As an Essendon supporter, this is an amazing guernsey to have in my collection. The famous Baby Bombers took the competition by surprise in 1993, it was the emergence of a side that would feature the names of Wanganeen, Hird, Mercuri, Fletcher, Misiti, Long & Bewick for years to come. A famous finals series for Essendon, after losing to the Blues by just 2 points in the Qualifying Final, Essendon went on to defeat the reigning premiers West Coast in the Semi Finals, then famously overcoming a 48 point early third quarter deficit to defeat the Crows in the Preliminary Final. They would meet the old arch rivals Carlton once again in the Grand Final, this time claiming victory to secure the clubs 15th premiership, which drew them level with the Blues as having the most AFL/VFL premierships.
12.01.2022 Brisbane Bears 1996 Centenary Season Player Issue guernsey #14 Danny Dickfos. Puma, size 105cm chest, polyester material and fully sublimated. There are a few distinct differences between this particular variant of Bears guernsey and others as worn by the Bears in 1996. I won't go into detail in this post, but I will elaborate as much as possible in a seperate upcoming post. In the meantime I'm trying to work out exactly why this was the case at the Bears. Hopefully someone c...an chime in when I make the post and offer some good learnings for us all! Danny Dickfos was a late starter to the AFL, drafted as a rookie to the Brisbane Bears in 1996 at the ripe old age of 26. He played 22 games in his debut season and subsequently survived the merger and played a further 43 games for the Brisbane Lions. He retired from AFL at the end of the 1999 season with 65 games under his belt and never kicked an AFL goal! Whilst Dickfos was only in the AFL system for four seasons, it should be acknowledged that long before his AFL debut (as well as after his AFL retirement) he was an outstanding talent in the QAFL, and even represented Queensland in State of Origin in the early 90s. As a youngster playing for the Zillmere Eagles in the QAFL, he actually rejected several offers from AFL clubs. Following his early retirement he would re-join Zillmere and go on to win their B&F in 2000 and eventually become their games record holder. If anyone has any Brisbane Bears Home or Away Playing Shorts or Bears Training guernseys, I would be very interested to discuss a deal.
12.01.2022 St Kilda Saints 1996 Ansett Cup Preseason Match Worn guernsey #3 Nathan Burke. Puma, size chest 90cm, polyester material and fully sublimated. Nathan Burke played a total of 323 games for St Kilda in a career spanning from 1987-2003. He is a 4x All Australian, 3x St Kilda Trevor Barker award winner, 11x State representative for Victoria (including both Captain and Vice-Captain honours) and AFL Life Member. He is a St Kilda Hall of Famer (Legend Status) and was named in the St... Kilda Football Club Team of the Century. This man has (almost) done it all. In 1996 specifically, Nathan Burke was named Co-captain of St Kilda (sharing the role with Stewart Loewe). This was a year in which Burke would be a winning co-captain of the Ansett Cup pre-season competition, win St Kilda's Best & Fairest (Trevor Barker award), be named All Australian and Player of the Year (Channel 7, Herald Sun & The Age) and finish equal second in the Brownlow Medal count (20 votes, just 1 vote behind Hird, Voss & McKernan*). A massive individual season. This particular guernsey was worn throughout the Saints successful 1996 Ansett Cup campaign, their first cup for 30 years since their maiden (and only) VFL/AFL premiership win. In fact, the 1996 Ansett Cup was the first ever time this beautiful design (colloquially referred to as the 'Hot Cross Bun' or the 'Crusader') featured for the club, with the design proving to be so popular amongst the St Kilda faithful that it became their Home guernsey the following season, and was ofcourse worn in the 1997 Grand Final. I struggled for a long time to get just one of these guernseys, let alone another one that was worn by the co-captain! It is dirty (clearly never washed) and is covered in the blue paint from the Waverley Park playing surface! Very happy to add this guernsey into my collection! P.S - How weird is the shape of the #3 used by Puma in 1996!
08.01.2022 Adelaide Crows 1996 Centenary Season Player Issue Training guernsey #24 Scott Hodges. Sekem, size chest 105cm, acrylic (wool) material with a combination of sewn on patches/numbers, as well as Vinyl heat-pressed Red Crow logo (front) and Camry logo (rear). The Crows used this design of training guernsey for the vast majority of the 90's era, eventually becoming sublimated as the Crows commenced sponsorship with Adidas in 1997. Typically, these designs existed in Navy, Red and... Yellow in the early to mid 90s, though I am yet to see a Yellow one with the centenary patch. Scott Hodges is an interesting player as he was an inaugural member of both the Adelaide Crows (1991) and Port Adelaide Power (1997) AFL squads. He played a total of 38 senior matches (all for the Crows) between 1991-1993, and 1996. Hodges was recruited as a big forward and was a monster talent, kicking quite a few big bags of goals including one haul of 11 against the Cats in 1992. He was Adelaide's leading goal kicker in 1992 before basically being pushed out of the team by a bloke by the name of Anthony Modra (heard of him?). After quitting the Crows in 1993, he returned once again for the 1996 season, however only managed a further two games. Despite also being an inaugural member of the Port Adelaide Power when they entered the AFL in 1997, Hodges did not manage to play any further senior AFL games. Outside of his AFL career, Hodges is an 8x premiership player for the Port Adelaide Magpies and is a Port Adelaide and SANFL Hall of Famer. I am still seeking 1996 PI/MW Adelaide Puma Home & Away guernsey, Yellow Training guernsey and Blue Home Playing Shorts.
08.01.2022 Couple of items available for trade (but NFS). Seeking anything PI/MW 1996. PM if anything is of interest.
08.01.2022 Northern Knights 1996 TAC Cup Player Issue guernsey #36 (Player Unknown). Sekem, size 100cm chest, acrylic material with sewn on patches and numbers. Originally forming as Preston in 1992 representing the Northern region of Melbourne, the Northern Knights quickly created a dynasty, winning four of the first five TAC Cup premierships from 1993 through to 1996. In fact, the club has never lost a TAC Cup Grand Final, however, it has been 25 years since their last appearance, a p...eriod which also owns four wooden spoons. The Northern Knights have produced some exceptional talent for the AFL over the past 30 years, including iconic names such as Chris Johnson & Adam Simpson (1993), Anthony Rocca & Blake Caracella (1994), Brent Harvey (1995), Andrew Eccles (1996), Nick Stevens (1997), Leigh Montagna (2001), Heath Shaw (2003), Matthew Kreuzer & Trent Cotchin (2007), Michael Hurley (2008), Marcus Bontempelli (2013), and many, many more! A really nice, simple design that has remained unchanged over the years!
08.01.2022 West Coast Eagles 1991 Grand Final Match Worn #5 Dwayne Lamb. Sekem, size 100cm chest, acrylic material with sew on patches and numbers, and the Eagles Head and Letters made of fabric. My understanding from previous discussions with Eagles collectors is that 1991 was the first season where the Eagles Head and Letters were fabric, prior to that it was either painted or felt. Dwayne Lamb played 151 senior AFL games for the West Coast Eagles from 1987-1994. An inaugural Eagle, h...e was a very durable player and was the first to reach the 50, 100 and 150 game milestones for the club. As shown by this post, he featured in West Coast's first ever AFL Grand Final appearance in 1991, a 53-point loss to Hawthorn at Waverley Park. The 1991 Grand Final was unique in many respects. Firstly, it was the first time a Grand Final had been hosted by the outer South Eastern suburban stadium in its history, the reason for the relocation was due to the construction of the now-iconic Great Southern Stand at the MCG. It was also the first time a team outside of Victoria had competed in the Grand Final. Whilst this sounds staggering to the one-eyed VFL fan, we often lose sight of the fact that other states such as both South Australia and Western Australia had unbelievably high quality state competitions of their own, with various states only beginning to join the 'national' competition in the mid-late 80's era. And lastly, who could forget Angry Anderson belting out Bound for Glory in the Batmobile!! After this loss to the experienced Hawks line up that had dominated for most of the 80's, the Eagles would go on to win two of the next three Grand Finals (1992 & 1994, both against Geelong), with Dwayne Lamb only playing in the 1992 premiership. I looked at footage from the 1991 Grand Final, and although it is not super clear, I was extremely pleased to see the big grippo stain on the front of the Lamb's guernsey (between the wings) with the same shape evident on the guernsey today. It is also great to have a photo of Dwayne Lamb wearing the guernsey (note, i did not obtain this directly from Lamb). This jumper sits very nicely with the 1992 West Coast Grand Final PI (season MW) that I obtained from Laidley last year. Very pleased to add another high quality item into my collection.

07.01.2022 I have one SPARE unused Red 1997/98 McDonalds Sherrin (left image) that I would like to swap for either Red/Yellow 1999 McDonalds Sherrin (would also look at Red/Yellow Challenge Bank Sherrins). These are Not For Sale, **Trade Only**
05.01.2022 **Duplicate post as the first post didn't place the images in the Brisbane Bears folders** Brisbane Bears 1996 Centenary Season Player Issue (likely Match Worn) guernsey #17 Trent Bartlett. Following his retirement he returned to hi...s home state where he played for the Tasmanian Devils in the VFL between 2003-2006. I obtained this guernsey (plus another Bears guernsey) in a very well balanced and mutually beneficial trade with another collector.
04.01.2022 1996 State of Origin Allies Match Worn Playing Shorts #12 Matthew Richardson. Sekem, size 18 (waist 91.5cm), sportwool material with sublimated text and patterns. Richo played two State of Origin representative matches for The Allies (1996 versus Vic & 1997 versus WA). I attended the Victoria v Allies match at the MCG in June 1996, a wet game where Richo booted 3.5 and won the Jesaulenko Medal for best afield in the Allies team. Despite his performance and a 3rd quarter Allies comeback, the Vics finished strong winning that match by 53 pts. I have really great memories of that match and so I'm really pleased to add this pair of Allies shorts to my collection as worn by one of the all time champions of our great game.
03.01.2022 Inspired by a post made by another great collector, here is a collage of some of my favourite guernseys I've had in my collection of this years finalists. Who are you backing to go all the way in 2020?? My head says Richmond, but I'd love to see any of the other sides cause an upset
02.01.2022 Fremantle Dockers 1995-1998 Training Worn guernsey #11 Dale Kickett. Nike, size M, polyester and fully sublimated with the exception of the stitched rear numbers and the 'Respect Yourself - Drink Safe' campaign patch on the front as worn on inaugural Fremantle training guernseys. Interestingly, a sublimated Hard Yakka sponsor is hidden underneath the patch, as shown by the second photo. Dale Kickett was an AFL journeyman, and a remarkable footballer who notched up 181 senior ...AFL games spread across five clubs (Fitzroy (1990, 15 games), West Coast (1991, 2 games), St Kilda (1992, 21 games), Essendon (1994, 8 games) and Fremantle (1995-2002, 135 games)). Most widely recognised as a Fremantle player, Kickett was lured to the Dockers to play under his ex-Claremont coach Gerard Neesham. He was part of a trade deal between Fremantle and Essendon that would ultimately see Matthew Lloyd and Scott Lucas drafted to the Bombers. He was a runner-up B&F in Freo's first two seasons in the AFL competition, before eventually becoming a Doig Medallist in 1997. Dale Kickett was also the first player to play 100 senior AFL games for the Dockers. I have been on the hunt for vintage Fremantle guernseys (including trainers) for some time now, and honestly never thought I'd find them as I believe most will have been thrown out and damaged over the years. These were in frames and it was a huge relief to learn that they had not been glued in and were able to be saved with no damage to the guernsey. Vintage 90s Fremantle guernseys are right up there with the absolute best designs we've ever seen, so to secure several in the one hit was a huge thrill for me and I look forward to posting these beauties over the coming days. I have not yet located any colour photos of these elusive Green trainers so if anyone has any I'd be super appreciative if you could send any my way to accompany this post. A massive thank you also goes out to the WA based collectors who offered to help out with pick up and de-framing on my behalf! Good deeds are not forgotten in this hobby.
02.01.2022 North Melbourne Kangaroos 1996 Centenary Season Player Issue Away guernsey #9 Warren Campbell. Nike, size M, Polyester material with sublimated centenary logo and heat pressed vinyl sponsor logos and number. This is a really interesting guernsey. Most people easily recognize and associate the Hypertec PCs sponsorship with the Kangaroos guernsey in their famous 1996 centenary year premiership season. But there were actually a few variations they wore at stages throughout the s...eason. In fact, Hypertec was a late signing in 1996 and the Roos initially wore re-badged 1995 Nike NZI sponsored guernseys for practice matches. Shortly after, they began using 1996 Nike guernseys with sublimated centenary logo for the Ansett Cup. As they were without a major sponsor at the time they wore the new 1996 guernseys without front/rear sponsor logos and black heat pressed numbers (which unpeeled and fell off easily). Following the signing of Hypertec, those guernseys had vinyl heat pressed sponsor logos added which is exactly what this specific guernsey represents. Prior to the season commencing the Kangaroos received new Nike stock which had the 'Hypertec' sponsor logo sublimated on the front and rear, which they wore up until Round 7 before it was modified with a 'Hypertec PCs' logo heat pressed over the top for the remainder of the season. As for the player, Warren Campbell played a total of 19 games for North Melbourne between 1994-1995, but did not manage to play a senior game in 1996, playing the season in the Reserves before eventually being delisted at seasons end. Interestingly, North Melbourne's Home and Away Reserves guernseys were exactly the same as the Seniors, and they too went on the win the Reserves Premiership in 1996, capping off an extremely successful campaign for the Shinboners. Another unique variation into the collection and I'm over the moon - huge thanks to the collector who helped make this happen. I am still seeking North Melbourne 1996 Grand Final guernsey, Re-badged 1995/1996 NZI guernsey, 1996 Hypertec Training guernsey and Home (Blue) and Away (White) Playing Shorts. Please get in touch if you have any of these and would like to discuss a deal!
