25.01.2022 The team at AFL Goulburn Murray have decided to get behind the Jodi Lee Foundation and participate in the 300K Step Challenege in October. We as a team hope to stay active, whilst raising awareness and money for Bowel Cancer. Throughout this challenge, we will be thinking of all those who have been affected by the horrible disease and spread the word of the importance of early detection. #jodieleefoundation... #jlf300ksteps If you would like to support us you can donate to this wonderful cause below.

24.01.2022 We continue our chats with local young footballers who have followed the football to the Northern Territory. Today we caught up with local lad, Jack Cattanach. What team in the AFL GM region do you play for? ... Hay Lions Tell us about yourself (work/family/pets etc) I'm the second oldest of four kids. I live on small cotton farm just out of Hay, I have a black pug and I can solve a rubix cube What League and Team have you played for in 2020? I'm currently playing for Waratahs in the Northern Territory Football League (NTFL) Is this the first year you have played in the NT? Yes, but don't think it will be my last. Any stand out highlights this season? The highlights from my season would be meeting so many new people. What made you want to play up North? I really just wanted to play a footy season anywhere and then a coach of mine suggested it. I wasn't too sure at first but then the Waratahs called me and they sounded really keen and that made me really want to go up. I also wanted to see what it was like to play in their different conditions compared to down home. What advice would you give anyone considering going to play up in the NT? If you're unsure, just bite the bullet and go. It's been the best decision I've made. The football standard alone is a reason to come up because it will help with your footy wherever you go. But also just the people you meet up here, all the places you can go and things you can do, you won't want to leave. What are you looking forward to the most in 2021? To get home and see Apollo my dog (it's too hot to have him up here). Thanks for the chat Jack, we hope Apollo isn't missing you too much! All the best for the remainder of the season.

23.01.2022 Today we caught up with Gus Byrne who is up playing for the Tiwi Bombers in the NTFL. What team in the GVL do you play for? Echuca Football Netball Club. ... Tell us about yourself (work/family/pets etc) I am studying Health and Physical education in Ballarat, to become a teacher. Have a big family with 5 siblings, and really enjoy mucking around with mates. What League and Team have you played for in 2020? I have played for the Tiwi Bombers in the NTFL Is this the first year you have played in the NT? Yes, first-year finding it very warm up here. Any stand out highlights this season? Some of the unbelievable skills of the local indigenous Tiwi fellas. What made you want to play up North? Escape from Victoria and have some freedom and fun whilst playing footy. What advice would you give anyone considering going to play up in the NT? Pack sunscreen, enjoy the lifestyle, and just go with the flow because that's what everyone does up here. What are you looking forward to in 2021? Getting back to playing footy in Vic for Echuca, and some normality at home. Thanks Gus, we look forward to seeing you back playing for Echuca in 2021!

19.01.2022 Today we have caught up with Brandyn Grenfell who has had a great year going up from the Goulburn Murray region to QLD and the NT to play football. What team in the AFL GM region have you recently played for? Recently played at Tatura Football Netball Club (2 years) and previously played for Seymour Football Netball Club (6 years).... Tell us about yourself (work/family/pets etc) I have my own recruitment company and currently working with Bay Building Group as their internal recruiter. I have 2 brothers and a sister and I’m the oldest and unfortunately they are all stuck in Vic during this very tough time while I have moved to Brisbane. Hobbies are being at the beach and playing golf ! What League and Team have you played for in 2020? Played in Queensland AFL, Div One for Cooperoo and have just commenced playing for St Marys, in the Northern Territory Football League (season commenced in Sept 2020). Is this the first year you have played in the NT? Yep first year. Any standout highlights this season? Winning best and fairest for Cooperoo. What made you want to play up North? The opportunity to play with a very successful club in the NT. I made my way there through connections and friends. It is a very different experience. What advice would you give anyone considering going to play up in the QLD NT? Give it a crack if you’re interested. The weather is really nice and the football is different to down in Vic. It provides you an opportunity to learn and develop extra skills that you may not get in Vic. Everyone has been very welcome with a great community vibe, the footy is at a high level and you get to play alongside a whole bunch of ex AFL and VFL players. What are you looking forward to the most in 2021? Hopefully winning a premiership at St Marys (NTFL) and having a successful season, then going back to Cooperoo in WLD and having further success there. All the best Brandyn in your endeavour to win a Premiership this year with Cooperoo!

10.01.2022 It was with deep sadness that we learnt today of the passing of David Buck McPhee. Buck has played and coached with a number of teams throughout the Goulburn Murray region, making friends from all over and building talent in so many regional players. Buck has also coached and played in the Vic Masters Competition, leading his 50+ team to take out the championship. He’s also been apart and lead his Vic Country team to victory in the Lawrie Evans Memorial Shield annual matche...s. He spent 2 years playing with the Emu Masters Football Club in Echuca and in 2015 he was approached by the GV Giants Masters to coach their inaugural team. He accepted the challenge and went on to coach them for 3 years. Since then he stayed on with the GV Giants Masters as a board member and player. Buck was also the clubs Mental Health Advocate, determined to help as many people as possible which speaks volumes to the type of person Buck was. GV Giants Masters described Buck as not only part of the family of the GV Giants, but also the heart and soul of the Club. Buck will be sorely missed by so many. Our thoughts and best wishes are with his precious family and friends during this difficult time. RIP Buck.

Our team is stepping it up this month to get to 300k in steps each, to raise money and awareness for Bowel Cancer.
