25.01.2022 Couple of big ins this week Demons with the long awaited return of Simon Dukes Bousfield, and Paul The goal umpire Jones who will both add a lot of depth to... the line up. The game this Sunday is against West at their home ground at SMOSH West Lakes FC, Bartley Terrace, West Lakes Shore. Be there at 12pm for a 1pm start. The Brumbys have advised that the canteen will be open for food and refreshments so make sure you hang around after the game and have a beer with your mates. #footyforfun#onlytwogamesleft

24.01.2022 The Pavlos Pacifier ROUND 8 v ATHELSTONE/The Raggies The Finale - and now, the end is near & so I face the final curtain 24 Super Cats arrived to play our fin...al 2020 game at HOME on a Saturday night after only a 6 day break (ha impressed AFL eh?). All credit to AFL Masters SA & our clubs for getting us to this stage over this challenging season Big Bad Rick Mc sat out and ran a fabulous BBQ together with 'Not nearly as Big but just as Bad' Jimmy after an unfortunate mid-week injury forced him out of the big dance! Massive Thanks to both Rick & Jim and their apprentice chef, young Jupes Damian. Also good preparation ordering by Grant. While the Toddster & Jutta drove laps of The Bend (but arrived to support later), Big Bad Attilio stepped in to run the Book. 'Not as Big' Splash appeared to help! Arthur, as reliable as ever, brought his personally embroidered white flags & also provided valuable work experience to a young job seeker! To prove the pen is mightier than the sword (huh?) V-Train opted out for a Quiz night..I suppose once you have won the Golden Boot there is nothing else on-field to prove! We do expect another of his motivational speeches this Presentation night regardless of who may win the Golden Boot! There was a great crowd watching the old Cats run around the park after dark. And as expected, Athelstone brought an Army, both players & support! Great to see! In the change rooms pre-game, the extensive Cats Coaching Staff (more Fat Cat than Super Cat!) were under the pump (think 2020 Crows’ Coaching panel!) as their collective well paid jobs were now on the line after last game! In 2020, we have a more ruthless Super Cats Management (hasn’t stopped Rick campaigning for a come-back!). However when one of the coaches randomly blurted We must have one goal in mind! most of the players from last week nodded knowingly! As we ran out, looking over to the opposition numbers, one was reminded of the 300 brave Spartans during the Battle of Thermopylae against Darius 1 of the Raggies Empire (look it up!!) 1st Quarter and the Super-Cats came out of the blocks inspired! We must save our coaches jobs they chanted in unison! A bag of 4 more than North in the 89 GF resulted while restricting the Raggies to a single. A great start with some excellent forward entries. The mood was set for a great Supercats’ Scratch. Again our Midfield delivered, our forwards were strong and our Defence re-bounded. 2nd Quarter we continued with the same effort. Let’s do it for the coaches’ extended families our Catters repeatedly chanted at the start & proceeded to boot 3 from 6 while Raggies got a couple. Much closer term, Athelstone very capable and they had a much better quarter. Although we went into the long break with a good lead, the game was not over! There were concerns from the vast majority of our coaching staff, knowing that many of our players were now past their bed times & someone may switch off the light! We were showing signs of tiring and then lost Chewy to an injury! The Raggies had a large bench and they used it well! Cookie got into the ears of many of our coaches to convince them that he should play forward & so it came to pass (no not going religious again!) 3rd Quarter, always the Premiership Quarter, Athelstone outscored us by a couple of goals. The game was still up for grabs. The Raggies started to control the middle and were running free through lines. Our legs were weary and we held a reduced lead at the final break but the intensity and pressure was starting to drift blue & white. The now rattled extensive Catters Coaching Staff had harsh words at time they screamed "think of our company cars & pro rata LSL slip sliding away lads". Inspiring! 4th quarter with our Coaches pension problems up front, the Super Cats lifted & booted away. We managed to get over the line in a great paced, skillful game against a good clean proud opponent. A top Masters exhibition presented to the big crowd! We dedicated the win to our B Grade to lift their spirits after 'our youngsters' had lost their GF by the smallest of margins earlier that day. Athelstone has much talent and an excellent rotating bench that meant our Western Tabbies had to land on our paws. Big Bad Blake shone and superbly fed the smaller players (well everyone’s smaller!). Mezzi, Crossy, Blaze, Johnny D, Fab and Philpy were great. Christian played a rebounding blinder in the back lines. Cookie sat at full forward (remember his ground work!) and it was a success! Dan Jolly aka The Truck gave us the option of another talented Tall. We turned up this week - awake and roaring to go! Again our Midfield was competitive and our back line was brilliant. Makes a massive difference having Rocket R-L-D back there, working so well with Matty C on the taller opposition Best for the Super Cats not in any order: Blake, Blaze, Jupy, Cookie, Clarky, Fab, Roger R-L-D, Christian, Crossy & Dan the Truck. Also Great contributions from Warny, The Bear, Grecky, Rusty, Marks, Hosko, Chewy, Warney & a rejuvenated Ross Scorers: Greedy little Cookie Monster 4.4, Philpy a couple & singles from Jonny D, Mezzi, Woody (reveling in his rock star status amongst the Woody South club faithful), Truck & Smithy. Woody awarded the MUG for his efforts, pretty much for attracting an adoring new younger audience to Masters! We were missing a couple on the night, rightly enjoying a get away with family for school hols. But what an excellent end to another successful but very eventful season! Thanks to the Masters Umps Jim & Michael, and their positivity enabling the game to be played in the right spirit - well done to them & ALL Masters Umpires all season! Congratulations & Thank You to all our helpers, especially our Committee/behind the scenes workers! Great numbers, including so many Raggies, stayed back to enjoy the BBQ, our club, some seated frothies & the great Sat night atmosphere. Particular thanks to Matty C (& many others) for his organization/Covid Marshall duties to enable everyone to enjoy the night safely. So great to see so many happy faces in the crowd, including past player Jim & our once bestest-frothy pourer Mandy there to support us. Also, kudos to the many family members, partners & kids - always so supportive Yes, there were times, I'm sure you knew when I bit off more than I could chew. But through it all, when there was doubt I ate it up and spit it out! Disclaimer - This does not refer to Chewie, our BBQ or Jim’s 11 secret Thai herbs & spices! I’m not seeking any pity but I had to immediately leave to continue my selfless vigilance in protecting you ALL from the many seen and unseen enemies, real or in my mind, everywhere! I've lived a life that's full I travelled each and every highway FOOTBALL FOR FUN but sometimes winning can also be fun! Coming up next - Our 2020 PRESENTATION NIGHT - watch this space In conclusion: For what is a Greek man, what has he got? If not himself, then he has naught To say the things he truly feels and not the words of one who kneels, The record shows, I took the blows..and did it my way! Pavlos

20.01.2022 What a fantastic twilight game to finish off our AFL Masters season. Thanks to Woodville South AFL Masters for not only being great hosts, but also for playing the game in the spirit that it should be. All played well .

19.01.2022 Huge night at the Cattery last night as Woody South B's were consoled over a 1 point GF loss but rightly celebrated their team's effort. Our Masters had a great... night game v Athelstone/Raggies Masters, played in true Masters spirit, and then all enjoyed 'convivials' post match. The club was buzzing! Thanks to all involved in preparation, servicing throughout the night, bar involvement, our barbie & all observing covid restrictions (thanks to Matt Clark overseeing when 'we hollered for a marshal'). A fantastic night and ideal last Masters game to complete such a tumultuous unique 2020 season! Game pics & Pavlos' match report are to come! See more

19.01.2022 Unfortunately we didn't have enough club members attend last Wednesday night to go ahead with our AGM. Fairly understandable given the impending COVID-19 lockdo...wn but it should be mentioned that those of us who were there enjoyed a few quiet drinks & some magnificent platters of food. The word "unprecedented" has been used a few times in 2020 but I've never had prawns & oysters at Lyrup Oval on a Wednesday night before, so bad luck to everyone who wasn't there. At least I have the common sense not to taunt you with any photos. We're looking to reschedule the AGM at the earliest possible opportunity. Cheers, Setch See more

18.01.2022 And that my friends is a wrap of a very interesting and eventful season! Today we ventured well out of our comfort zone to a place south of where we (excepting... Coach Wortley) belong. We did though have a great afternoon of Masters Football against the Bulls from Pooraka. Well done to The Taxi Driver (Pasan Boteju) on collecting the Kilikanoon Wines award, and Malcolm Mafia Riddle for winning the Fairway Durif Wines bottle. Brickman Stuart accidentally earned the dunces cap for his brilliant mark followed by dribble kick. Highlight of the day however, and well earned Curky Curtis Fedora was our Champion Baseballer Rowey for his post goal celebration! Many thanks of course to the Seaton Hotel for keeping the athletes hydrated after the game and well done to Blackwood AFL Masters for hosting a great day! #footyforfun #nevertooold See more

10.01.2022 Our 2020 AGM finally went ahead last Wednesday night after training, which is thankfully back on again. A big thank you to Jason King who unwittingly took on th...e president's role at last year's AGM before the COVID19 situation & proceeded to steer us through the first season in 35 years in which we didn't play any games plus all the other ups & downs that 2020 threw at us. Kingy stood down at the AGM for personal reasons but ended 2020 on a high note by presenting Rob "Hammer" Romeo & Darren "Titty" Tieste with Life Memberships. Rob Romeo is back in the hot seat again as club President, with Dave Setchell & Shannon Harkins returning as Secretary & Treasurer respectively. Mark May was appointed Team Manager & Rob "It's All About Me" Johnstone will continue as Publicity Officer with assistance from Darren "Dexter" Kennedy (whether he likes it or not - Rob's not getting any younger). In other news, club legend Shane "Rowdy" Healy has been awarded Life Membership of AFL Masters SA, with the award to be presented at the association's AGM next week. 09.01.2022 Welcome back to lockdown. Stay at home, stay safe, and remember to stay in touch with your mates.

09.01.2022 A great day Sunday with the AFL Masters SA first dedicated Over 50’s trail match held at Kenilworth. Here are a few photo’s of the action.

09.01.2022 The Riverland Superdogs AFL Masters Football Club is holding an internal trial match on Saturday the 10th of October at Lyrup Oval starting at 1PM. All current,... past and potential new players are encouraged to be involved and also to attend training on Wednesday nights at 6.30pm at the Lyrup Oval in the lead up to the trial match. Training with the Superdogs is a good way to get back on the fitness wagon as weekly training continues until early November. Training then reverts to fortnightly before weekly training resumes again in February. A match fee of $15.00 per player will apply for the trial game which covers registration and a post game beer or soft drink. The trial game will played under the AFL Masters motto of Football for Fun and is umpired in this spirit in accordance with the rules of AFL Masters Football. Besides the minimum requirement of being 35 years old, age is not a determining factor with who plays as we have players who are in their sixties and seventies and who still compete in the annual AFL Masters National Carnival. Changerooms will be available in accordance with the club’s COVID-19 Safe Plan, as will a subsidised BBQ and the usual post game hospitality. The afternoon will be all about Football For Fun and football at your own pace and we’d love to see as many players taking the field as possible. For more information visit the club’s website or Facebook page or contact Jason King on 0499 446 355 or Dave Setchell on 0428 873 090 or email the club at [email protected].
