24.01.2022 AFLVM BOARD DECISION SEASON 2020 Dear Club Presidents and Delegates, the AFLVM Board met by Zoom Video Conference last night and unanimously voted to: 1. Cancel the COVID 19 impacted 2020 Season for all men’s and women’s Competitions... 2. Confirm Affiliation Fees of 33% of previously advised 2020 fees 3. Continue to work with clubs to support the ongoing health, safety and mental well being of all our stakeholders. Notwithstanding the unanimous vote of the Board, the decision to cancel the 2020 competitions was not taken lightly and was informed by: 1. Expert medical opinion from both within and outside the AFLVM 2. The feedback from Clubs to the survey of current intentions 3. AFL Victoria (and Victorian Government) particularly relating to insurance coverage, commencement dates and likely match day protocols. The medical advice has been(and is) an overriding consideration given the health and safety of our stakeholders is paramount. The best current advice is that our age demographic is the most at risk of contracting the disease and close contact is the most likely source of infection. The Board felt that, notwithstanding protocols to minimise risks outside the boundary line contact is inevitable on the field. The Clubs’ feedback was prima facie even between playing and cancelling, but a number of yes clubs were conditional. A full evaluation of the proposed protocols (when released) would likely prove problematic for a number of those clubs pushing them into the no camp. AFL Victoria continues to negotiate with the Victorian Government to establish clear protocols, rules, policing and penalties and once these are finalised the Board will circulate to all clubs. AFLVM has sought clarity on insurance and legal liability and will share those responses with you when received. In the meantime it is worth noting that any practice matches not sanctioned by the league will not be covered by insurance whereas we understand intra-club matches will be. The Board will continue to advise you of developments as they occur. We will prepare a Q&A of likely questions and seek to clarify the roles and responsibilities of clubs in light of the decision the Board has made. Please note your discounted fee will be processed immediately with normal payment terms. Clubs that have paid in full will receive a 67% refund. Clubs under hardship are encouraged to contact the Treasurer through Chris Spencer. The Board is committed to work with clubs to develop ideas and initiatives to allow clubs to maintain contact with members (subject to Government protocols) that facilitates ongoing social interaction and supports health and well being and look forward to further discussions. The Board will release a more detailed statement underpinning its decisions including approved protocols. In the meantime please direct any questions or comments to Chris Spencer and please stay well. https://aflvm.com.au/aflvm-board-decision-season-2020/ #aflvicmetro

22.01.2022 Return to play Training And Games Protocols In advance of any training and games recommencing we encourage Leagues, Clubs, umpires, officials and volunteers to digest these protocols, go through an education period and formulate an education and implementation plan to return to training and games safely. We will continue to work with the Victorian State Government to ensure alignment with their advice. Our primary focus is preparing to return to training and games in a safe... environment in a well-prepared and educated manner. In order for a return to training and games to be successful, and in line with Victorian State Government advice, it is essential that Clubs and individuals work within the protocols and do not move ahead of the restrictions in place. AFL Victoria will continue to follow any direction from the Victorian State Government and align with the AIS Framework for Rebooting Sport, so that any resumption of community football activity in Victoria does not compromise the health of individuals or the community. This document relates specifically to senior and junior community football in Victoria. If these protocols cannot be achieved, training and competitions should not proceed. AFL Victoria strongly recommends those attending training and games download the COVIDsafe app. Please follow the link below to download the full PDF https://aflvm.com.au/return-to-play-training-and-games-pro/ #aflvicmetro

22.01.2022 Werribee Masters, Bruce James set to play his 250th game // Bruce James 'BJ' one of the clubs life members has been playing with Werribee Masters since 1992 (then Werribee Superules part of Vic Country League) and will now play his 250th games this weekend. His passion for the club and his love of playing football continues to show in 2018 where he has shown his resilience by lining up again in our Over 45’s Legend team when he could be resting on a bar stool. BJ represents e...verything that is Masters football, always there to help with anything that needs to be done and always ready to help anybody in need of a hand. He has served on committee, coached, painted several rooms for the club and painted the scoreboard. He is the second player for the club to reach the 250 game milestone, the other being Mick Morro (one of the clubs founding members). BJ is universally loved by all at the club and deserves all the accolades he gets. He has received just about every award the club has to offer including Best and Fairest, Pastore award, life membership and life membership with Vic Country league. BJ has also played in over 80 games for Vic Country at carnivals starting back in Perth in 1994. We would love everyone to come along this Sunday to our Over 45's Home game to celebrate this wonderful achievement for Bruce James and show him how much he is loved around the club and the League. Sunday 17th June, 10:45am Wyndham Vale Reserve, 84 Honour Avenue, Wyndham Vale

18.01.2022 RETURN TO COMMUNITY FOOTBALL ANNOUNCEMENT https://aflvm.com.au/return-to-community-football-announce/ Since our postponement in March we have been constantly reviewing and monitoring the latest advice provided by the Federal and State Governments in relation to a return to play for Community Football.... Announcements in recent days by Federal and State Governments have outlined a staged approach to returning to normal life in this COVID environment. The three-staged approach outlines a clear framework to reintroduce Australians to work, play and sport in a controlled and responsible manner. The return of Community football, including NAB AFL Auskick, will be consistent with this Framework and will incorporate the recommended protocols set in place by the AIS Framework for rebooting sport across Australia. This framework has given us clear boundaries within which we must operate to ensure we can return to play safely. We are working closely with Cricket to accommodate an extended season, if required due to the impact of these postponements on the AFL calendar. Whilst we remain hopeful of a return to play for Community football in 2020, each State and Territory Government is responsible for determining what stage AFL is at in their State and approving when we can transition into the next stage. From https://www.afl.com.au///faqs/return-to-community-football For more information, please find below links. https://www.afl.com.au///faqs/return-to-community-football https://aflvic.com.au/return-to-play/ #AFLVicMetro #vicmetro

14.01.2022 The 2018 AFLVM National Carnival Coaches have been announced. Head to our website for details - https://www.aflvm.com.au/events/2018-national-carnival/

13.01.2022 AFL Masters Vic Metro is saddened to share the news that a great stalwart of our League, Gordon McQueen has died. He will be sadly missed. We would also like to share this moving tribute from his teammates at Mornington. Gordon Gordo McQueen played 60 games with the Raiders. ... Gordo was a latecomer to the Raiders who had played an enormous amount of football all over Victoria and Interstate prior to the Raiders. He played his first game of football at the Raiders in Round 1 2004 and his last at the age of 73 in 2013 helping out the Over 45’s who were short of players. Even though he was 73 he would have kept on playing if his body had let him. He loved playing football and everything about football clubs. Gordo was voted best Clubman twice in 2009 and 2011. An honour he truly deserved. Not surprisingly even when he stopped playing, he stayed involved at the Raiders as a Team Manager. Gordo was a Superules Carnival stalwart who played in Carnivals all across Australia. He loved the Carnivals, loved the challenge of playing against the best ruckmen of his age in Australia, with whom he had some legendary battles. He also loved the camaraderie and socialising that goes with being involved with a lot of people united by a common football cause. Gordo was a ruckman who had mastered the art of ruckwork. At centre bounces he could hit the ball wherever he wanted. As a midfielder he would direct you where to stand and you would stand there because that is where he would hit the ball. He could work his opponent to any spot he desired which would end in him having the advantage. He had an amazing ability to stand his ground, though I never played against him, I would imagine trying to move him once he had staked his territory would have been near on impossible. Gordo was an intelligent footballer, always thinking about the game and the strategy required to win. For a big man, he had an amazing knack of covering the ground, he would routinely be the first to boundary throw ins to take his spot. He had great endurance and was more than happy to ruck all day on his own. Gordo was generous with sharing his knowledge of the art of ruckwork. Many a Raider ruckman has been tutored by him in the art of ruckwork. Whilst Gordo was a fierce competitor on the field, of the field he was an absolute gentleman, A gentle giant if you like, softy spoken, never swore and polite to the extreme. He was a man of no fuss who got on with life no matter what was thrown his way. Gordo had a significant impact on the culture of the Raiders, for the better, because he was a man who led by example, honest, respectful, straightforward, inclusive, considerate he was loved and respected by everyone at the Raiders who met him. Rest in Peace Great Man.

12.01.2022 Hi All, Unfortunately, the Victorian Government’s recent announcement extending our lockdown has meant that our Semi Final games scheduled for August 29th will now need to be abandoned. There is also strong concern that the lockdown may be extended further, or at the least travel restrictions be imposed.... The Board met last night to consider the only 2 choices available to us: - Abandon the rest of the Season - Endeavour to play Grand Finals on September 12 as scheduled. In considering the possibilities of staging these games we had to take into account many factors, the welfare of players returning from such a long break with minimal training, possible travel, and crowd number restrictions, and their commercial viability. With so many uncertainties in play, the Board has made the decision to abandon the balance of the 2021 Season. We hope you all stay safe in these troubled times and will continue to send you information about our Constitution review and confirmation of the AGM date. 12.01.2022 Tony Lovett with Family & Friends Message for Young and Old Suicide is the leading cause of death among Australians aged between 15 and 44. It deeply affects friends, families and communities. More than 3000 Australians end their lives each year this is about 8 people a day.... The suicide rate among Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people was approximately twice that of non-Indigenous Australians. Suicide rates for males and females differ considerably with males consistently accounting for approximately three-quarters of suicide deaths. Most people these days have been touched personally by suicide. Through this project, we wanted to take the opportunity to check in with our young people and to give them a platform to talk about this in a safe space. Through community conversations, our mob developed key messages. You are not alone Your feelings are valid You are loved Talk to someone who will listen Talk to your mob You don’t have to cope alone Our young people said they need a voice; they need their feelings acknowledged and validated. Their message is that you are not alone. Our message is there is always help. Here is our Message, for young and old! https://youtu.be/d_ZXK0e0DVE #aflmetro

12.01.2022 2021 AGM & Delegates Meeting National Carnival Update State representatives have been updated on the planning for the 2021 National Carnival at this year’s AFL Masters AGM & Delegates Meeting. Held online via Zoom last weekend, proceedings were opened by AFL Masters President Steve Eurell, and following initial formalities, the Perth Organising Committee provided an update on the 2021 National Carnival, which featured the following highlights:... Planning for the 2021 National Carnival is progressing full steam ahead. With the rollout of the COVID-19 vaccine and easing of border restrictions, there is a strong sense from the POC that the 2021 carnival will go ahead and be one of best attended National Carnivals ever. Several local accommodation providers have blocked out vacancies for AFL Masters, and many accommodation deals include refund options if the carnival is postponed. Details of these deals will be provided in the coming weeks. Optus Stadium is firming as the venue for presentation night, with up to 1800 people expected for the event. More than 500 players from Western Australia have indicated an interest in playing in the Carnival. There will be two age divisions for the women’s competition: An over 34s division and an over 40s division. Carnival merchandise for will be available from early next month. Another update is expected in late May/early June. The meeting also heard a proposal to increase the representation of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people at the National Carnival, with either standalone men and women teams, or an All-Star showcase game, as suggestions for increasing participation. The Board continues to work with states to help develop women’s football and grow participation at the National Carnival, and the meeting also accepted the nomination of Andrew Nielsen as Director for 3 years, and Gillon McLachlan and Susan Alberti AM as patrons. https://aflvm.com.au/2021-agm-delegates-meeting-national-c/ #aflvicmetro

11.01.2022 COVID-19 and the 2020 National Carnival AFL Masters appreciate it is difficult for players and their families to book anything for the Perth 2020 National Carnival, without knowing if the event is going ahead. At this stage, all we can say is we are exploring all possibilities, and our current timeline is to make a decision is on the 1st of June when the current AFL guidance period concludes. Of course, if anything changes before then, we will advise accordingly. Until then, ...our advice to anyone booking flights and accommodation is to make their bookings transferable where possible. We have been in regular contact with the Perth Organising Committee and State Delegates over the last few weeks, to try and plot a way forward. The Perth Organizing Committee has also been engaging local stakeholders such as WA Tourism and the local footy associations in finding a solution. In the words of our national carnival patron Susan Alberti, Stay well. We will get through this crisis. Aussies are tough. https://aflvm.com.au/covid-19-and-the-2020-national-carniv/ #AFLVicMetro #vicmetro
