23.01.2022 A tribute to the retiring Jesse Derrick from Palm Beach Currumbin Australian Football Club. Congratulations Jesse on an amazing career and good luck for the next chapter! By TERRY WILSON IT is the end of an era in some ways at the Palm Beach Currumbin footy club. For starters the senior Lions have missed a fifth straight grand final after being eliminated by Morningside last weekend.... Then club champion Jesse Derrick has confirmed he is hanging up his well-worn boots after 277 senior games in his decorated career. And he is likely to be joined in the retirement stakes by defender Jackson Emblem and midfielder Jason Burge. Derrick and his wife Amanda are expecting their first child in March and that played a major role in him calling time on his playing days. There is one thing for sure. It will not be the same without a Jesse Derrick running out on the No.10 jumper for the Lions. He started at the club, where his father Ley was a loyal servant and remains one off the field, as a four-year-old. Derrick totted up 175 games for the Lions and added 102 more when he tried his luck with Broadbeach when the Cats were in the QAFL and PBC were in the second tier. It has been an enjoyable journey, said the champion midfielder, whose ability to back up week after week was quite remarkable. Ive had a great run and not to miss any games through injury is special. Obviously Im proud to have captained my home club and win some premierships with them. But you cant play forever. Derrick finishes his career with a Grogan Medal (2016), a Ray Poulter Medal for best-on-ground in the 2013 SEQAFL Division 1 grand final, and two best and fairests and three runners-ups for PBC. Congratulations Will from the U14s Victoria Point Sharks JAFC who was diagnosed with a serious heart condition at birth (TOF) which affects blood flow through the heart as well as multiple holes in his heart, resulting in extensive open heart surgery and complications. What an absolutely incredible achievement to see this legend reach 100 games on the 12th anniversary of this major surgery. With Oscars early development delays and ongoing development difficulties Oscars passion for football has helped him with his anxiety disorders, learning disabilities occupational therapy and much more. Oscars passion & obsession for football started at a young age collecting all the AFL football cards every year & remembering all the players, and then starting Auskick at the age of 5. He has played every year from then. Footy has helped Oscar push through the hard days. He has found that spark to keep believing in something that brings you joy and something to enjoy that he can learn from to help build his confidence, social skills, speech, mental & physical health and play in a team sport with his brother. 03.01.2022 AFLQ SCHOOLS CUP ANNOUNCEMENT Nominations for the 2021 AFL Queensland Schools Cup are now OPEN The competition is FREE for all public, private, and independent schools within Queensland and New South Wales, Northern Rivers.... AFL Queensland is pleased to provide the following participation pathways for students across primary and secondary schools: Primary Male: Grades 4-6 Primary Female: Grades 4-6 Junior Male: Grades 7-9 Junior Female: Grades 7-9 Senior Male: Grades 10-12 Senior Female: Grades 10-12 Junior Male Inclusion: Grades 7-9 Inclusion divisions are for students who have been identified as having a disability under the Education Adjustment Program (EAP) Teachers are now invited to nominate via the online nomination form on the AFLQSCup website https://www.aflq.com.au/aflqsc/ Competition dates and venues are also available.
