12.01.2022 *SFL AWARDS 2020* Huonville Lions star forward Ethan Brock has been awarded the prestigious William Leitch Medal at tonight’s medal count. The shortened season ...produced a tight leader board throughout the season. After the conclusion of round five, five players topped the leader board with 6pts. Hobart’s Luke Adams hit the lead in round six with a best on ground performance against Brighton, but Brock’s 3pts against Sorell in round eight propelled him to the lead. Despite Huonville having the bye in the final round, Brock held on to defeat Adams by two votes. Lindisfarne’s Georgie Bailey won the SFLW Medal in a close contest. After the conclusion of round ten, seven players were still capable of winning. Bailey’s best on ground performance against Brighton in the last round saw her take the medal in her own right from a North Hobart's Krystle Gibbs by two points. Dodges Ferry player Jack Wilson won the George Watt Medal for the Reserves. Southern Storm's Joshua Coad won the Lipscombe Medal for a second time after winning the medal in 2018 as a 17-year-old. 08.01.2022 The recent AFL Grand Final in Perth was historic for a number of reasons, including the fact that it featured women as presidents of both competing clubs for the first time ever. Kate Roffey (Melbourne Football Club) and Kylie Watson-Wheeler (Western Bulldogs) are true trailblazers and provide further evidence that there is no stopping women and girls reaching the highest positions in our game. There is no doubt we need more women involved in football at levels, and like Kylie and Kate, this can be in all-important off-field administrative roles, particularly in community football. Do you know someone great who is not currently involved in their local club but could be? Why not take the opportunity to have a chat to them about getting involved.
