08.01.2022 DESTINATION GOLD COAST INDUSTRY UPDATE Destination Gold Coast’s Board has announced the commencement of a nationwide recruitment process for a new Chief Executive Officer to lead the region’s peak tourism and marketing body. The Board appointed an external contractor to manage the process which is expected to conclude within the next two months. View the media release here for more information.... Spring has officially sprung, and with it comes welcomed news for Gold Coast's tourism sector. Yesterday, Jetstar recommenced flights between Cairns and the Gold Coast, which is a huge coup for the region ahead of the September school holidays. In addition to activity currently at play in Queensland and in South Australia, DGC has bolstered activity to target northern Queenslanders with owned and paid digital treatment alongside TVC, cinema and outdoor placements. We also welcome the reopening of Binna Burra Lodge, almost one year to the day it was devastated by bushfires. The reopening marks an important recovery milestone for the local community, with the iconic eco-tourism lodge beckoning visitors to explore the region's 'green behind the gold'. On Saturday, 29 August the Queensland Government imposed new restrictions to the Gold Coast in response to COVID-19 developments across South East Queensland. Households and public space gatherings in the region are now limited to a maximum of 10 people. These restrictions do not apply to venues and events operating under a COVID Safe plan. From Destination Gold Coast: FYI We urge our tourism community to continue to remain vigilant and adhere to COVID Safe practices as we navigate recovery of Gold Coast's chief economic driver. The City of Gold Coast has released a number of industry-specific fact sheets to help inform food and accommodation operators with restrictions in place. Please continue to refer to Queensland's roadmap for easing restrictions, which reflects the latest changes. From Monday, 28 September businesses seeking to claim the JobKeeper Payment will be required to reassess their eligibility for the JobKeeper extension based on actual turnover in the relevant periods. The payment will also be stepped down and paid at two rates. The current $1,500 fortnightly wage subsidy will continue until Sunday, 27 September. Further information is available in the JobKeeper Payment extension fact sheet.

03.01.2022 Sarah Colgate was appointed to the board of Destination GC! She'll be a great voice to have on board representing operators. THE NEW CEO: Destination Gold Coast is delighted to announce the appointment of Ms Patricia O’Callaghan as the new Chief Executive Officer.... Destination Gold Coast Chairman Paul Donovan said the board of directors selected Ms O’Callaghan following an extensive and extremely competitive process with more than 300 applicants vying for the role. Ms O’Callaghan will build on the current strong position of Destination Gold Coast and the City of Gold Coast, through a focused approach on our future strategies and plans, Mr Donovan said. Key factors in the appointment of Ms O'Callaghan were her vision for the city, proven deliverables in facilitating the concept to completion of major infrastructure projects, and strong leadership skills. Patricia has been the CEO of Townsville Enterprise over the past six years, where she has been instrumental in attracting major investment to the region and has done an outstanding job in achieving economic growth for her hometown. Ms O’Callaghan said she is excited about taking on the leadership role at Destination Gold Coast and was eager to work with stakeholders to rebuild the visitor economy. Whilst we have many challenges ahead, there are also opportunities that can help us come out of this crisis even stronger than before, Ms O’Callaghan said. The Gold Coast is Australia’s leading tourism destination and we are uniquely placed to be the number one choice for local and Australian visitors, and it is important we maximise this strength. "Welcoming as many Australians as possible to the Gold Coast now and into the immediate future is critical." Ms O’Callaghan commences her duties in early February 2021, and we look forward to our members and the city welcoming Patricia to the role. Read the full release here.
