19.01.2022 LETS TALK ABOUT HULLS- MOLGAARD Founded by Christen Molgaard, this small family owned business started in the early 70s’ with the first catamaran made in ply wood. Later came the introduction of narrow cockpits and safety cockpit, canopy and so on. Today Molgaard are designing most of there moulds by 3D modelling and rapid tooling for better faster and more precise moulds. Molgaard design and build Formula 1s through to 2- seaters. ... The F1 is the biggest boat that they build for competition and comes with all the latest safety features. The F2 comes with several options of sponsons. The F4 is one of the fastest growing classes internationally. 10 years ago the developed and built the first boats to race Scandinavian F4. There newest boat, the generation 3, is made entirely from CNC milled moulds. The F5 is the smallest boat that Molgaard produce, and is developed for the German Formula ADAC and can be powered by a 30hp 4 stroke engine. And finally the 2-Seater, by the name is designed to carry 2 people. The driver and passenger sit side by side. This boat however, is not designed for racing but still contains a safety cell and F1 sponsons. Source: Molgaard racing

14.01.2022 LETS TALK BOAT HULLS-BURGESS As we have had a a lot of interest in the different types of hulls our drivers have we thought it would be good to share some information. Pictured is a hull designed and built by David Burgess, who at the age of 16 started an apprenticeship to Bill Shakespeare who’s boat yard was in Tawkesbury, England. He left this boat yard at the age of 22 where he worked for Freddy Miles designing and building milesmaster cats, 2.5 years later he started his... own business David told Fast on Water UK, My designed and built boats have to my recollection won about 45 World Championships in all classes from monohulls to F1. Just look down the list of F3 winners 17 of those were in my boats. I probably built more catamarans than anyone else. The NF boats shown on the website I must have built about 55 to 60 of them. I couldn’t build enough Formula 4 boats. That was the first NF mono I ever built. It was made entirely of wood, and the interest I had from that led me to produce a highly successful grp NF boat. I made about 55 to 60 of those, and then sold the moulds to a Dutchman, Wiep Torenvleit, who continued producing them for a while. There is a story behind the OZ boat I built for Roger Jenkins. The previous year OMC loaned those motors out to some other boat builders in Europe to develop boats for the following season, when the motors would become commercially available to approved drivers. I approached OMC for the same deal and their director of racing told me, ‘you may be able to build small cats but there’s no way you can build an OZ boat.’ As they say the rest is history.I quit building boats in 2002. The only work I still do with racing boats is some pattern making for dragon F1 when he wants some mods done. 13.01.2022 Did someone say to buzz the tower?
13.01.2022 25HP WAS THE NEXT LOGICAL STEP This young pocket rocket is apart of the VSBC and drives a vibrant blue 25hp known as The Dictator, first gaining interest in the sport through her pop and Slammin’ Sam Commentary. Her name Kelsey Dempster! After gaining that first bit of interest, the VIC APBA put out a notice offering a loan boat for those who wanted to give it a go. Kelsey became too old to race in the junior classes so to her 25hp was the next logical step as it suits majority of drivers young and old with all types of experience. I am very lucky to have so many great people backing & believing in me. Slammin’ Sam aka Pop, GP Hydro livestreaming, TNM Road Services & thanks to the AFPGP’s Andrew Page Memorial race my mentor and great mate Thomas Kaal, Mojo Racing.
12.01.2022 Absolutely devastating news from the epic racing team! We hope to see you all at Mulwala.
11.01.2022 BIRTHDAY ALWAYS ON ROUND ONE Racing is in this young fellas blood even more so racing always falls on his birthday. The start of every season is not only celebrated with a race meet but it is also celebrated with a birthday. We asked the young Joel Smith about his career and what got him involved into racing. Joel is a 3rd generation power boat racer. Like most, Joel started in junior racing and worked his way up from there. At the age of 12 he started his career in juniors..., J3, at the very first ever AFPGP event at Taree back in 2009. Following in his father Matt Smith footsteps, he moved up to the Formula 3 class at 16 years old. Formula 3 taught him the basics of how to race a boat, and when the limits were pushed too far, crashing out at the last AFPGP round in 2014, Port Macquarie. Joel however successfully won the handicap point score at his local club RTAC throughout that same year. In 2017, he moved up into his dream class, Formula 1. Being a marine mechanic along with his grandfather, they worked as a team to build and repair all of his engines as well as his fathers. In his first year in the top AFPGP class he was a keen competitor, pushing the leaders to their limits and walking away with 1x Round win at Griffith. Joel has also won the Andrew Page memorial race, this being his only junior race he’s won, within the 2017 season. Joel has tried his hand at unlimited powerboat racing and some spectaculars however says I much prefer AFPGP style of racing and the tough competition it brings with large fields. Joel has now rigged his boat and his fathers boat to suit the new FORMULA GP class which debuted Albury 2020. With some minor issues at both Albury and Taree he can successfully say he and his fathers boat are prepared for the first round of 2021 season. Today would of been Round one, day one and of course it’s Joel’s birthday. Happy Birthday Joel, the first weekend without a race meet.

09.01.2022 THE MISSUS WON EVERY RACE Another new comer to the Formula GP class is new dad Peter O’Riley. We asked Peter what got him into the sport and his goals for this year ahead of Albury where he will make his debut. I started racing after meeting my partner Kass Casson where we raced 25/550cc together with her brother Kaine and her dad Mark from Casson Racing. ... She beat me every single race and I hated it to the point we wouldn’t talk on the way home from racing lol. I then stepped upto the 800cc open hull class where I took out the 2019 800cc Australian Championships. I had always wanted to get a F1/F2 boat after developing the boat racing bug and when the opportunity to buy Corey Davolls / Damien Mackenzies old F1 GTR I couldn’t say no. Since purchasing the GTR I have rigged it to run the 200xs 2.5L Optimax with a special thanks to Craig Bailey Marine. I have had a handful of drives in the boat gaining more confidence each lap. I can’t wait for the 2021 race season where i will be racing all the AFPGP rounds. Will be a big learning curve racing in the Formula Grand Prix Series with the 20+ other Formula Boats but I couldn’t be more excited. Special thanks to my Sponsors BP Lake Munmorah, Precision Signalling and Electrical, The Garage Lake Munmorah, Online Design Aust See more
