21.01.2022 MEET OUR ICONS Dr Chika Anyanwu’s Chika sees himself as a cultural fruit salad with many years of global teaching and research. ... His professional career cuts across many fields from Stage to Screen and from Policy to Business Leadership and Management. He has previously been Head of Media Discipline at the University of Adelaide and was also the Coordinator of Mass Communications at Curtin University of Technology, Perth. He also established and headed the Media Arts program of the University of Papua New Guinea in the early 1990s. He has taught at the Universities of Ibadan and Sokoto in Nigeria and Flinders University of South Australia. His academic background cuts across many areas of the media, with a First Class Honours in Theatre Arts, an MA in Television, a PhD in Cinema and a Graduate Business Qualification in Leadership and Management. His research cut across many fields from Indigenous Media, Media Policy and Law, New Media Technology, Creative Industries to Multiculturalism. Chika is a Fellow of the Governor’s Leadership Institute of South Australia. He has been teaching and researching in media with specializations in Media Law and Policy, Creative Industries, Broadcast Radio and Television, and New Media Management since 1988 He is a very active researcher and consultant, and has been at the helm of two large research programs: Creative Industries and Virtual African Diaspora. 14.01.2022 MEET OUR ICONS Dr Vincent Ogu Vincent has wealth of experience in the non-governmental, community and government sectors. He has served in the Western Sydney MRC Board for over ten years and provides leadership in governance, strategy and reforms. Vincent has been cited at the Australian Parliament in recognition of his contributions to the settlement of new migrants in Western Sydney. The first President, IGBO Community Australia, Vincent has served in Australian Government’...s Africa Ministerial Consultative Committee and the NSW Government’s Ministerial Roundtable on Workplace Diversity. Graduate of Australia Institute of Company Directors, Vincent has held managerial positions with the government sector and research fellow roles with universities, including the prestigious Vice Chancellor Fellow at the University of New South Wales. Vincent is experienced in research, policy and strategy development. A Fellow, Planning Institute Australia, Vincent holds a doctorate from the University of Cambridge. Born in Nigeria, Vincent has expertise in housing and urban development and his research work has been recognised internationally and cited in United Nations agency papers on housing and infrastructure services. At UNSW, he worked on Sustainable City Program and the partnership and participatory approaches to urban environmental management in Africa. He also explored market and structural reforms and the role of the private sector in urban services delivery in Africa. Vincent is the author of many published refereed journal papers, edited books, monographs, refereed conference papers, most of which focused on Africa. A corporate member of the Planning Institute of Australia and research manager with the NSW Government, Vincent has drawn from research and professional experience to put forward planning approaches that reach beyond conventional ‘wisdom’ to accord recognition to ethnic and cultural diversity and the implications for housing, recreational and services. He has served in the Management Committee of the Liverpool Migrant Resource Centre (Liverpool MRC), including as Chair for three years and as Deputy Chair. As Chair Liverpool MRC and in professional roles, Vincent encouraged and supported series of programs and projects that promote social and cultural inclusion of African and other new migrants and refugees. The NSW Government appointed him to the NSW Ministerial Roundtable on Workplace Diversity in 2012 and the Australian Government appointed him to the African Ministerial Consultative Committee the same year. His name has also been cited at the Australian Federal Parliament in recognition of his contributions to the settlement of new migrants, including humanitarian entrants. He is also the founder of African Professionals of Australia Ltd (APA) and well known for bringing together community-based associations to work in partnership to empower, educate and support people from diverse community.... A sought-after consultant and speaker, Tommy was born in Oyo Sate, Nigeria, and moved to Australia in 2001. He has served as a migrant advocate speaking to decision makers, governments and local councils on solutions to the challenges migrants and refugees face in their first five years in Australia. Tommy has a Bachelor’s Degree in Eng. (Elect/Elect) from University of Ilorin Kwara State Nigeria, Masters Degree in Information Technology from Griffith University, Graduate Certificate Oil & Gas Engineering from University of Western Australia and a Graduate Diploma in Occupational Health and Safety Management from Edith Cowan University, Australia. 09.01.2022 MEET OUR ICON Dr Joseph Masika OAM Born in the Republic of Tanzania, Dr Masika is the 2015 South Australia Local Hero Nominee for Australian of the Year Awards. He has served as Councillor in the City of Marion and has previously contested for a parliamentary seat in South Australia.... Since calling Australia home in 1996, Dr Joseph Masika OAM has immersed himself in voluntary work with refugees, migrants and disadvantaged individuals and communities. Sitting on numerous boards and committees, Dr Joseph Masika OAM (Joe) acts as an adviser to several government bodies and is a former member of the South Australian Multicultural and Ethnic Affairs Commission and the Commonwealth Ministerial Consultative Committee on Africa. A White Ribbon Ambassador, Joe promotes gender equality and encourages leaders in communities in South Australia to protect women’s rights. As National President of the African Communities Council in Australia, Joe has actively campaigned against domestic violence, delivering educational workshops in our communities. A strong and confident character that connects the community, Joe’s work challenges the attitudes, stereotypes and behaviors that allow violence to occur. Determined to remove structural and attitudinal barriers hindering women’s participation in decision-making, Joe actively mentors women and encourages them to seek positions of leadership within their communities. 03.01.2022 MEET OUR ICONS Eve Howell Ms Howell is an experienced executive and company director who has worked for more than 40 years in the oil and gas industry in the UK and Australia in various technical, managerial and executive roles.... Born in Khartoum, Sudan, to a Sudanese father and English mother, Eve moved to the UK as a young woman where later she began her career as a geophysicist. In 1981, she traveled to Perth, Western Australia, for a short term assignment which resulted in a stay of 34 years and Australian citizenship. In Australia, Eve worked at Apache Corporation for 17 years reaching the position of Regional Vice President for the Australian Region and Managing Director of Apache Energy Limited between 2004 and 2006. At Apache, Eve was involved in the discovery and development of numerous offshore oil and gas fields leading to the establishment of oil export facilities and gas infrastructure that enabled competitive power generation for the mining provinces of inland Western Australia. In 2006, Eve joined Woodside Energy Ltd where she was Executive Vice President and CEO of the North West Shelf, Australia’s largest resource project. During her tenure at Woodside she was involved in the re-contracting of LNG supplies with Japanese utility companies, the redevelopment of the oil infrastructure and the expansion of the LNG project to 17mtpa. Since 2012, Eve has served on boards of private and public mining, petroleum and service companies operating in Africa as well as in Australia, South-East Asia and South America. Eve brings a wealth of experience to African Geopolitics particularly in terms of oil and gas exploration, production and infrastructure. Complementing this is Eve’s Sudanese background giving her a unique insight into African society and culture.
