25.01.2022 Our good fortune with the cats this year continued, this time getting the quintessential leopard photo whilst at the wonderful Camp Shawu at Shishangeni Private Lodge

24.01.2022 It has been a while since I posted as it has been one hectic safari season but when this clip came in from a client I just had to pass it on. It may not be all African but it is ALL FUNNY!! I hope you enjoy it as much as I did.

23.01.2022 Birds, birds and more birds. Our band of travellers were treated to a fantastic sight in the Caprivi Strip of Namibia in Babwata National Park. While cruising on the Kwando River we were treated to the sight of a colony of bee eaters outside there nesting holes in the bank of the river. Beautiful birds who were a delight to watch. Africa has this ability to throw in the unexpected from time to time.

21.01.2022 G'day Everyone. Well it has been a long time since I posted anything here and it is not for lack of subject material, simply lack of time. As you all know the pandemic has had a terrible affect on the world and international travel, and thus my business, which consequently has all but ceased. Even so, I am posting to let you know I am still alive and kicking, no Ebola (I mean Covid 19) and the business is still here. I am currently stuck here in Australia but keeping busy wor...king on plans for the resumption of world travel and hence my African safaris. I am optimistic that 2021 will see a cautious return to international holiday travel and Southern Africa should be at the top of the list as the infection rates in this region have been the lowest in the world. More on this later in another post but today I wanted to share some news that is not just good nor positive but down right exciting! My good mates at Pangolin Photo Safaris based in Botswana's Chobe region have been absolutely proactive throughout this crisis and their latest contribution is even more positive and exciting than anything being talked about at the moment. It is time to find your photos of wildlife you either took with me on safari or ones you have taken at home (not just African animals in this contest) because Pangolin have a great photographic contest for everyone to participate in. Have a look at what Toby has to say on the You Tube video and I think you will be as excited as I am! This is your chance to win an all inclusive safari for two to the value of TWENTY THOUSAND US DOLLARS!!!! Don't be frightened to enter as it is for amateurs as well as professionals and as a matter of fact there are more prizes and chances for amateurs than pro's! Anyway, enough from me but look out for new posts coming as I am getting back into the swing of this 'Facebook thing'! See more

17.01.2022 One of our group of farmers was also a train enthusiast and when I found out that the beautifully restored 19th Century Rovos Rail was arriving at Matjiesfontein Railway Station on the morning of our I delayed our departure and organised for a tour of this beautiful example of a bygone era. I can see why it is a "bygone era" because with this type of beauty and comfort there comes an equally hefty price tag! Even so, I still think a chance to sample a time when things moved more slowly and grace and elegance were paramount is sometimes well worth aspiring to.

17.01.2022 G'day Everyone, I have just had two places become available on my Namibian safaris for this year and would dearly like to fill these spots. The outline below provides a little bit of detail about the first safari but for more info please contact me direct. I have designed the two safaris for this specific time of year and for the locations and route I have selected because I believe this is the optimum time to be in the vastness of Namibia. The weather is perfect (read - not too damn hot), the wildlife prolific and the timing means we will also be able to encounter the spring wildflower blooms in South Africa. More on all of this later but if either safari sounds interesting then let me know I and I will forward the full itineraries.

14.01.2022 WRD is certainly an occasion that has a special place in our hearts. Since the reintroduction of rhino 1998 to the Malilangwe Reserve, both our Black and White ...rhino populations have increased significantly and the responsibility to ensure their management, safety and survival is at the very core of what we do. It is in our lifetime that we collectively inch closer to witness the unimaginable final demise of these magnificent and charismatic creatures that have roamed the earth for thousands of years. It is also our generation that can and needs to make the global difference. Today in conjunction with @blackbeanproductions we are excited to launch the premiere of our short film The Malilangwe Scouts. It’s a glimpse into the arduous journey in becoming an anti-poaching scout and the personalities behind the challenge. The six month selection course is designed to push the recruits both physically and mentally, beyond what they believe themselves capable of, because in the end it’s the people that will make the difference. They are at the forefront of the war against poaching, working tirelessly as the guardians of our wildlife and natural biodiversity so future generations may share the same joy and wonder we do. . @tusk.org @natgeoadventure @henrycavil @511tactical @africanccf @jason_carl_fox @sophie_roberts @conservationorg @vortexoptics @singita_ @theellenfund @wildcatcentre . . . . . #mailangwe_trust #rhino #scouts #wildlife #zimbabwe #nature #conservation #world #worldrhinoday #Anti-Poaching #endangeredspecies #wildlifeconservation #Africa #biodiversity

13.01.2022 As usual I have not had enough time to keep up with posts but the following video just arrived and I thought I must share it with everyone. Rhino Post Safari Lodge is located inside Kruger Park and is privately run on a large concession area. They provide an excellent service but it would appear that on this particular evening they even provided a 'floor show'! This clip is incredibly unusual for two reasons. Firstly it has BOTH a young kudu bull AND a hyena, which are natural enemies, together in the most strange of locations - inside a safari lodge!! The second reason is that not only does the hyena re-arrange the furniture but it seems to do it with the guidance of the kudu who must actually be an interior decorator in disguise!

11.01.2022 While in Bwabwata Park we had a great game drive to Horseshoe Lagoon where we were lucky enough to see the quite shy reedbuck along with a multitude of other wildlife. While at Horseshoe it was time for some 'happy snaps' as you can see from the group photos.

10.01.2022 Well once again I have been off the air. I just don't seem to have enough hours in the day. Anyway, I thought I would get things underway once again with probably the best leopard photos I have ever managed to get. This was a rare opportunity to witness a female leopard dining out! This is not an everyday occurrence but at Okonjma Reserve in Namibia you have a better chance here of seeing leopard than just about anywhere else in Southern Africa. I hope you enjoy these but they are bit gruesome and I suppose I should warn everyone because it seems these days we can't seem to stomach the none sanitised version of life in the wild when you live in the 'First World'.

07.01.2022 Apologies for the delay in continuing my posts about my wonderful farmers group but life has been a bit hectic of late. As we traveled on through the semi arid Karoo region of South Africa we were continually surprised and delighted by the ever changing topography and the stunning starkness of the scenes that surrounded us. These photos are of the beautiful pass through the Swartberg Mountains on our way to the ostrich capital of the world, Outdshoorn.

07.01.2022 A quick post today. The following two photos show exactly what NOT TO DO in an African national park. These idiots broke all the rules and were lucky that a parks ranger never saw them or they would be fined. I find it hard to believe that people get off a plane in Africa, hire a vehicle and suddenly think they are African bush experts. What the fool on the right did not realise was that there was a pride of lion only 150 metres from them when this photo was taken and only an experienced eye could find them. This photo brings a whole new meaning to "meals on wheels".

06.01.2022 I was very fortunate to take my sister on her first safari this season. Imvelo Safari Lodges at their Bomani Lodge rolled out the red carpet with some magical lion sightings, including these three little ones!!

05.01.2022 BUSH LUNCH. After a 'hard' morning of game viewing in Hwange National Park I had a surprise organised for my group at one of the water holes. Little did they know they would be partaking of 'brunch' under a Camelthorn tree with a passing parade of wildlife to act as a back drop. As you can see it was not just lunch that was enjoyed as we had he opportunity to get up close to some big jumbos while on foot. I don't permit my clients to do this everywhere we go but in Zimbabwe the guides are the best on the continent and I have complete faith in their skills - and they are armed!

03.01.2022 Finally found some time to get this years safari posts underway. It has been a very hectic year this far and my first group started with a bang, a big bang! This is because I broke my group size record by one and had 18 folks travelling. What made this even more interesting, and fun, was the fact they were all farmers, wool brokers and agents from all over the sheep breeding states - NSW, SA, and Queensland. This was truly a great group of people and their interest in everyth...ing they saw and did, was second to none. This safari started in Cape Town as we were scheduled to head north to the wool growing areas of South Africa. After a few fun days in "The Mother City" we headed to the dry Karoo. What a fascinating region and our first stop was in a town that was preserved like a 19th Century time capsule - Matjiefontein. What an incredible destination filled with beautiful old buildings and fun people. We were in for a special treat as our overnight accommodation was at the grand old Lord Milner Hotel, virtually unchanged since the 19th Century. See more
