19.01.2022 It was an honour and a pleasure to see Winta and Mohammed go through a transformational leadership experience on the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme as part of the... 2018 African Australian Leadership Challenge. Like 13,000 young Australians before them, Winta and Mo completed a physically and emotionally challenging voyage to test themselves and develop their leadership capabilities. It was inspiring for me to see what they, and the rest of the youth crew, could achieve. It was even enough motivation to keep me climbing the rigging and to staying awake with them during the night watches despite being nearly twice their age! After they finish university, Winta has dreams of being an actuary and Mo of working at DFAT. After seeing them at work I know they have the potential to achieve anything they set their minds to. I want to thank Winta and Mos sponsors making their voyage possible, the incredible staff crew of the Young Endeavour and their indefatigable Captain Kenny for what they do for young Australians all year round and the ADF Parliamentary Program for facilitating my participation.

06.01.2022 Say hello to Winta and Mohamed, the first participants in the African Australian Leadership Challenge!

02.01.2022 Tim Watts MP joined members of the African-Australian community of Melbourne's West and the crew of the Young Endeavour Youth Scheme in Williamstown to launch the African Australian Leadership Challenge 2018. The African-Australian Leadership Challenge is a new initiative designed to identify and invest in emerging leaders from the African-Australian Community in Melbournes West. In the inaugural Challenge, two members of the African-Australian community of Melbournes West... (one male and one female aged 16-24) will join Tim on a 10-day voyage on the Young Endeavour Tall Sail Ship. The Young Endeavour is a not for profit organisation that operates in partnership with the Australian Government and the Royal Australian Navy to offer participants a once in a lifetime, challenging and inspirational experience at sea. The program aims to increase young Australians self-awareness, develop teamwork and leadership skills and create a strong sense of community responsibility amongst members of the youth crew. The Young Endeavour is no stranger to Melbournes West, and regularly docks at Seaworks, Williamstown during its voyage around Australia. The Young Endeavour is a symbol of the potential of young Australians that is well known around the country. The completion of a voyage on the Young Endeavour by the African-Australian Leadership Challenge participants, alongside their Federal Member of Parliament, will send a powerful message about the inclusion of African-Australians in the potential of our youth. Mr Watts said. Ive never sailed on a ship, so it will be as much of a challenge for me as the young leaders. Everyone on the challenge will have to get their sea legs together. Upon completion of the voyage, Tim will host the young leaders in Canberra to see Parliament and meet with political leaders from all sides of politics. Joining Tim at today's announcement was John Kuot from South Sudanese Australian Youth United (SSAYU). This is a wonderful opportunity, which is not often afforded to many great young people within our African Community. The community wish to thank Tim Watts and Young endeavour Australia for opening a gateway for our young people to reaching their full potential. The African Youth welcome such great news! said Mr Kuot. Expressions of interest are sought from young people aged 16 to 23 years, who live in Melbournes West. To be eligible, applicants must be: An Australian citizen or permanent resident. 16 - 23 years old on the day of departure of the voyages you are applying for. Weigh less than 120 kg. Able to swim 50 metres and be in good health. Willing to meet a physical and emotional challenge at sea.
