22.01.2022 AFS Intercultural Programs began as the American Ambulance Field Service, a volunteer ambulance corps created in April 1915 by A. Piatt Andrew. In 1947, AFS was transformed from a wartime humanitarian aid organisation into a groundbreaking international secondary school exchange, volunteer, and intercultural learning organisation with a noble vision: to help build a more just and peaceful world by promoting understanding among cultures. We aim to bring people together for pu...rposeful dialogue. AFS stands with the global movement to end systemic racism, and promote the values of dignity, diversity appreciation, inclusion and acceptance. We recognise that racial inequalities are present in our society and we cannot tolerate any discrimination. We support the action of Aboriginal Lives Matter and Black Lives Matter. Every one of us can make a change in our world if we take action. Intercultural education is the heart of our organisation. We bear witness every single day at how, by opening peoples’ minds and exposing them to new people, cultures, and experiences, we can change our perspectives and respect and embrace our differences as we foster lifelong friendships. We are grateful to all the people around the world who are peacefully protesting, speaking out, educating others on racial discrimination and social injustice. We must unite and collaborate to abolish racism and discrimination around the world. Together we can create change. Our organisational mission calls upon us to make the world a more just and peaceful home for everyone. It is precisely in a moment such as this one where each of us, united and determined, can move us closer to the peace and justice that we value and uphold over all else. #afseffect #passpeaceforward

14.01.2022 They carried the wounded from war. We carry their legacy of peace. AFS began in 1915 as a volunteer ambulance corps, transporting the wounded from the field in ...WWI. The American Field Service was reactivated in 1939 for the same humanitarian purpose in WWII. In 1946, AFS Drivers founded our international exchange organization to perpetuate peace. Today, we honor those that the Drivers couldn’t carry. Today, we pass peace forward by continuing to connect people across cultures. Our host families are a part of this legacy just as much as our students. Welcome an AFS Exchange Student to your home, family, and community. You’ll transform your life and theirs. 01.01.2022 Meet Gabi, she is an AFS returnee from France. We asked her to answer two questions for us "How has your AFS experience transformed you? What are the things that you learnt about yourself? " ... Here's her story: " I became much more capable to do things on my own, and to take my own decisions with care and confidence. But most importantly, I was surrounded by people who, even without knowing me, were ready to welcome me as one of their family’s members. The relationships I built with the people I met, unconsciously changed me. They thought me to see the world with another perspective. I think my experience was priceless. I became much more openminded, tolerant and mature. " Thank you Gabi for sharing your story with us. We are so happy for your achievements. :-) Send us a DM if you would like to share your story too! #AFSeffect #AFSreturnees #selfawarness #AFSstories
