24.01.2022 Mental stress can be so costly for business owners as well as really debilitating for the sufferer. Safe Work Australia released a report a few years ago with findings that said "The loss of productivity and absence of workers is costing Australian businesses more than 10 billion per year." . Take time for your mental health. Seek help if you need it. 18.01.2022 An interesting read about how to approach treatment of acute and chronic lower back pain.
17.01.2022 massage can help make pain more manageable. This is possible because of the remarkable capacity of our nervous-system to turn-down the intensity of pain we experience. ...Let’s just say, that by adding sensory input to our nervous-system, it has a chance to change its output or, in other words, decrease pain intensity. ~ taken from an online article on Massage and Persistent Pain by Bruce Martell, RMT https://www.brucemartellrmt.com//massage-therapy-and-persi
16.01.2022 1 in 5 Aussies live with chronic or persistent pain. It’s complex, difficult, debilitating, costs our nation billions of dollars a year, and there isn’t a straightforward easy way out of it. BUT that’s not the end of the story. You can overcome chronic pain. I will try and unwrap some information around persistent pain in this blog post. https://burleighphysio.com.au//unwrapping-chronic-pain-pa/
15.01.2022 Take 5 min. Do a body scan. What is your body telling you? Where are you holding tension? Take some deep breaths, fill your lungs and let your belly expand with the ribs. More oxygen to your blood, more energy to get you through Thursday afternoon.

14.01.2022 If you are feeling light-headed or woozy after your massage, it's okay! But if you are driving home maybe just go for a little walk and have a drink first so you can drive safely.
14.01.2022 Quick sketch: Pectoralis Minor sits just under Pectoralis major. This muscle is a shoulder stabiliser, aids in scapular protraction and can be an accessory for breathing. Poor upper body posture can cause the pec minor to shorten thereby pulling the shoulderblades laterally and anteriorly because of its attachment to the coracoid process. This leaves you with a sense of feeling hunched and shoulders pulled forward. If this sounds like how you feel in your shoulders, please ...book in for a massage! A little bit of release goes a long way with the pecs. . #remedialmassage #massagetherapy #pecs #pectoralisminor #goldcoastmassagetherapist #burleighphysio See more
13.01.2022 Temporalis muscle: Quickly located when you go to rub your temples. This is a broad muscle on either side of your head with its fibres going down underneath the zygomatic arch to insert at the mandible. Temporalis is used when you clench your jaw or pull your bottom jaw back in towards your neck (retracting the mandible). This is one of main muscles connected with the Temporomandibular Joint (TMJ).

11.01.2022 The BioPsychoSocial model means that we recognise that health and pain isn't simply physical health and disability. Psychological factors (emotions, thoughts, coping methods, fear, belief systems..) and Social factors (culture, family, economical circumstances, work issues..) all play a part in the way your brain processes your pain, health and function. . #remedialmassage #goldcoastmassagetherapist #burleighmassage #biopsychosocial #massagetherapy #painscience

10.01.2022 Thank you to everyone who was able to make a booking over these holidays. I will no longer be available so I wish you all the best and trust you will stay well! I will be based in Perth doing some study for the next 6 months. I'll let you know when I am back! Peace, Anna
10.01.2022 "Miscarriage has many causes but massage is not one of them. Medline Plus lists causes and prevention of miscarriage on their website. Massage is not listed." If continuing normal activity (work, exercise, sex, recreation) is not sufficient to cause miscarriage then there is no reason to worry that a good massage would cause it either. In fact many women have had massage in the beginning of the first trimester before they even realised they were pregnant! There's no evidence ...to suggest that massage causes miscarriage. I know many places won't accept women in their first trimester for a massage. This may be due to fear of being sued by someone thinking that massage caused miscarriage, or simply because there is fear and uncertainty about this very common misconception. I treat from first trimester all the way through to due date (and sometimes after if bubs is overdue). So please feel free to book in and see me for a massage. It's still important that you let me know if you are pregnant so I know how best to help you and your body. 08.01.2022 Our brains are complex. And so is pain! Pain can be coming from all sorts of things which can be biological but also psychological and even social. You might have heard of neuroplasticity. Which basically means the brain is creating new connections, adapting and changing through experience. Because the brain chooses what is painful to us that means we can ultimately see our pain change too! Something to think about hey! There's a good little diagram to mull over here. The...re's so much we have yet to learn and understand. But at the end of the day, we aren't just treating pain or a condition, we are treating a living person. See more
06.01.2022 A study in the Jahrom University of Medical Sciences, Jahrom, Iran, shows that massage improves the vital signs in patients after a heart attack.
05.01.2022 My view this morning from the treatment room.
05.01.2022 Quick sketch of the soleus muscle: This is a big one for pointing your toes. This calf muscle lies underneath the bulky gastrocnemius muscle (which has two heads going over the back of the knee). Soleus and gastrocnemius share the achilles tendon. When your knee is straight both soleus and gastrocnemius work together to be strong plantarflexors (pushing your toes down and lifting your heel). BUT if your knee is bent, it is your soleus muscle that does the work. Soleus helps balance your centre of gravity when standing so it is actually working and holding contracted fibres a lot more than we realise! Try giving it a stretch by doing a normal calf stretch but making sure your knee is bent.
05.01.2022 Massage therapy can be really helpful in easing the grip of anxiety and/or depression. This could be due to an increase in oxytocin. I think that being in a safe space with intention to unwind helps too. I care about mental health too, so if your mood is low consider booking in a massage. We all need some uplifting care at times. . #mentalhealthmatters #massagetherapy #anxiety #depression #remedialmassage #burleighmassage #burleighphysio #relaxation #destress #unwind #moodboost #mentalhealth

02.01.2022 Whether it is Mum you are thinking of or someone else (maybe you just need to treat yourself!) don't forget that a massage voucher can go a long way! I am closed on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day but don't hesitate to make a booking in this Christmas season!

01.01.2022 "The Cancer Council NSW states that people who have had massages whilst undergoing cancer treatments have reported improvements in sleep, health of scar tissue, quality of life, mental clarity and alertness and range of movement." A light, relaxing massage avoiding the area of the tumour or treatment may be beneficial for improving quality of life for people fighting with cancer.
