08.01.2022 From today, Victorian and New South Wales NDIS participants who rely on face-to-face supports and assistance with their daily living will be able to claim the c...ost of personal protective equipment (PPE), including masks. These changes apply where coronavirus (COVID-19) is active in your community, and the use of PPE is consistent with current health advice. NDIS participants in Victoria and NSW will be able to use an existing support item (Low Cost Disability-Related Health Consumables) to claim on the cost of PPE. Additionally participants living in their own home who test positive for COVID-19 and are required to self-isolate or quarantine will also now be able to claim for related cleaning costs. The ability to claim for the cost of PPE will be extended to Victorian and New South Wales providers allowing workers to continue delivering essential disability supports to NDIS participants. 06.01.2022 We know corona virus - or COVID 19 - is causing a lot of fear and confusion for many of you because older Australians have been reported as most at risk from... the virus. We have asked the Commonwealth Health Department to urgently provide more information and fact sheets specifically for older Australians about the real risk of the virus to people over 65, what precautions you should take, and at the same time how you can continue on with your everyday lives as much as possible. COTA is also talking to government and retailers about how they can ensure that older people have access to daily essentials through your normal shops. We will let you know as soon as we receive information back. In the meantime we encourage you to only rely on official sources for information because the media can get it wrong, and misinformation and hype cause unnecessary fear in the community and suggest you do the wrong things. The best place to start is the Commonwealth Department of Health website, which has fact sheets in various languages, as well as information about specific issues such as the effectiveness of using masks, and information for people visiting aged care facilities. https://www.health.gov.au//novel-coronavirus-2019-ncov-res All state health departments also have information and updates: NSW: https://www.health.nsw.gov.au//dise/Pages/coronavirus.aspx VIC: https://www.dhhs.vic.gov.au/coronavirus ACT: https://www.health.act.gov.au//updated-information-about-c TAS: https://www.dhhs.tas.gov.au//infectious_diseas/coronavirus WA: https://healthywa.wa.gov.au/coronavirus NT: https://health.nt.gov.au/news/coronavirus QLD: https://www.health.qld.gov.au//diseas/diseases/coronavirus SA https://www.sahealth.sa.gov.au//health+t/novel+coronavirus
