24.01.2022 Regret holds us in bondage, tied to a past that prevents us from embracing all that we are capable of. Becoming consciously grateful and harvesting the pearls from our past unshackles us from the burden of our regrets. 22.01.2022 The Vulnerability of Ageing

22.01.2022 September 1982, the culmination of a time of rapid change in my life. I married the love of my life and emigrated to the other side of the world from England. Western Australia welcomed us with consistent warm weather and endless clean coastline. I look back at our youth and am often amazed at our courage and ability to start from the very beginning in a country with no family or friends. Just us. Looking back now, I realise that we achieved small incremental feats that over... time began to create a sustainable and enjoyable life Down Under. Change and transition can take different forms. In this case, the massive shift of actually moving countries, was followed by a gradual transformation of building a life together. I know we were not the first to do this, nor will we be the last. One of the many glorious things about Australia is that it is a melting pot of so many nationalities. This adds to the beautiful rich fabric of this extraordinary country. My point is that one of the many things we can count on in life, is that we will experience change, whether we instigate it or not. Sometimes it doesn't need to be big sweeping gestures; it can come stealthily through small efforts made intentionally and constantly. If you are experiencing a period of change and transition for which you would like support and guidance, please message me. It is one of my deepest joys to empower women through these stages of life. www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #agewell #change #sallyhewitt

21.01.2022 How self-aware are you? Im not talking about being self-conscious. Being self-conscious means we concern ourselves too much with what others are thinking about us. Im also not referring to self-image, because that refers to an egoist false self. Self-awareness allows us to become comfortable in our own skin because we are aware of our strengths and weaknesses. It allows us to be real. This is especially powerful as we grow older, because it will give us the armour we need... to stand up to the false assumption that ageing means we are deteriorating. Self-awareness allows us to continually improve with age and be grateful for this. Im looking forward to exploring this topic with you during August and would love any of you thoughts or reflections about it. www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #selfawareness #agewell #gratitude #sallyhewitt #august2020

21.01.2022 As we finish last months topic of self-awareness, it seems a natural progression to take a look at change and transition because the former can be instrumental to the latter. As we become aware of our habits, there may be some we wish to alter but in order to change a behaviour, we need to adjust the belief attached to it. This is a reason why we cannot make foundational changes to please others we have to want it for ourselves. Once we have the awareness, we are in a posi...tion to revise any beliefs we may have that no longer serve us and in this way, bring about change. I look forward to exploring this with you as we move into Spring, the season of renewal As always, if you would like to discuss a challenge with me more personally, please private message me to organise a free 30 minute chat. www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #selfawareness #sallyhewitt

18.01.2022 Let's be kind. To ourselves and to others. Embracing acceptance and forgiveness as a way of living is a kindness that liberates us to be more present, as well as blocking the past from dictating our future. These qualities open us up to the opportunities that change brings in on its wake. Accepting and forgiving others is equally liberating because holding onto grudges allows dissatisfaction and bitterness to creep in. ... Let's release our emotional grip on how we believe life ought to be and instead,be more accepting of what is. This empowers us to make the changes we know will serve us, and those around us, better. Wishing you a blessed weekend. www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #change #sallyhewitt

17.01.2022 We do not automatically become vulnerable as we age. When Im talking about the vulnerability associated with ageing, Im not talking about becoming old and frail. Im referring to being open enough to accept ageing as a normal process of living. There's no need to presume that we will become frail with age. We have the ability to age with confidence and strength through the choices we make. ... Being open and vulnerable allows us to accept the necessary changes we need to make, in order to age well. www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #vulnerability #sallyhewitt

15.01.2022 Since July is about vulnerability I thought I would share this: The stay at home chef, Rachel, shows us what a beautiful human being she is in this short video. Life is too short to criticise ourselves or each other. Not everyone has the privilege to grow old. Thank you Rachel, The Stay At Home Chef for your vulnerability as you remind us to count our blessings not our years.... And thanks to my friend Miriam Stout of Redemption Mummas for also posting this deeply touching video recently. #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #vulnerability #bethatperson #sallyhewitt

15.01.2022 I took this picture a few weeks ago, between rain showers. The ocean was gently lapping and there was a chill in the air because the sun was dropping. It was an exquisite afternoon for introverts, like me, who enjoy solitude. These are the moments that can slip by unnoticed if we dont become present. Thomas Moore wrote: ... . Being self- aware means being present to the beauty in our moments. www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #selfawareness #sallyhewitt

12.01.2022 Today is World Kindness Day. How wonderful to have a day to focus on such a powerful virtue. Kindness comes in many forms. A smile freely given. A courtesy humbly shared. An unexpected thoughtfulness. Kindness fills the heart of the giver and receiver. It ripples out and washes away disdain and entitlement.... Today and every day let's all try to be the rainbow in someone else's cloud. We may not know what is going on in another person's life but we can choose to be the person who shows up with kindness. It could be the only kindness that person has experienced on that day. Have a blessed weekend www.ageinggratefully.com.au #worldkindnessday #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully

11.01.2022 Accepting change can sometimes be challenging. However, problems may arise when we resist change. We can end up getting in our own way and blocking our road forward. I have certainly been guilty of this. The journey becomes riddled with potholes and diversions. Then, suddenly! I find myself enjoying a direction in life that I had not imagined. I realise that I have made the transition more difficult than it needed to be. All I needed to do was remain faithful. ... The lesson this has taught me, is that it can be much simpler to get onboard with change and excelerate with it. In this way, I am more likely to get back in the driver's seat and enjoy the ride. Have any of you experienced this? www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #change #sallyhewitt

10.01.2022 Our egos prevent us from being vulnerable because ego wants to protect the identity we have created for ourselves. Our egos love to justify why we have the right to feel a certain way. This is a sure way to stifle our self-awareness and personal growth as we age. It will also prevent us from developing empathy, which is vital to healthy ageing. ... www.ageinggratefully.com.au #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #vulnerablility #sallyhewitt

09.01.2022 Memories...in 1988, when these photos were taken, Russell and I had been married for six years and bought our first home here in this coastal haven of Sorrento. I lived in this same house until 2019. After 31 years a house becomes more than bricks and mortar. It witnessed the birth of our children, many parties and gatherings with friends and family and also tragically Russells passing. When I sold our family home I totally underestimated the amount of grief that was attac...hed to doing this. It signified the end of an era and was a tangible action in packaging up my life with Russell and living now without him. Grief comes in many forms. Selling our home in Sorrento left me feeling stripped bare and vulnerable. I have been learning the steps that assist my healing and I take them with care and a deep desire to help others take them too. Change brings a sense of loss for which we need to grieve and accept, before we can fully embrace the new. Im learning to be so grateful for all that has been and for what is yet to come. In fact, Im ageing gratefully and Im here to help you do the same. #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #sallyhewitt #cityofjoondalup #change #loss #newbeginnings #vulnerability

08.01.2022 There are many different changes that take place as we age, in all areas of life. Unfortunately being vulnerable has too often been associated with being frail. Yet vulnerability requires strength and courage. Vulnerability empowers us to accept changes and be more at peace with ageing.... It encourages us to understand the blessing of growing older, be grateful for it and live with vitality and joy. Today, let's be kind to ourselves and each other and enjoy the benefits that being vulnerable has to offer. #ageinggratefully #aginggratefully #vulnerability #sallyhewitt

08.01.2022 On Sunday we honour the men in our families, our Dads, Granddads, Dads to-be, would-be Dads. Many of these men make the world a better place with their presence while others have already sadly left us. This can make the day bitter-sweet for many of us, yet we still honour our beautiful men who have left their imprints on our hearts. We will love them forever. ... 08.01.2022 While I was doing a little research for this months topic of self-awareness, I stumbled upon a clinical paper that stated: Stories are the avenue toward telling and, therefore, knowing of the self. ** The paper illustrates the importance of our own stories and how transformative it is to know them. By looking at the many narratives that make up our lives, we have the opportunity to get to know ourselves better. We are able to learn about our foibles and strengths; what nou...rishes our souls and what doesnt. This feeds into our self-care and our self-esteem, which in turn, dictates the way we will treat others. 07.01.2022 The 98five radiothon is on this week I've been listening to 98.5 Sonshine FM since it first began in the late 1980s. At that time I was running my own ladies boutique and I really enjoyed having the radio playing in the background. It was always uplifting and non intrusive. Ambient music is so important. It draws you in and welcomes you to stay. It is extraordinary that they are still successfully filling our homes, workplaces and vehicles with their wonderful mix of go...od music and life affirming messages. 06.01.2022 It can be easy to hide behind a facade that we create for ourselves. How we want others to perceive us. If we are not careful it may become our default position. 04.01.2022 Its important for us to accept all that has previously occurred in our lives, whether these incidences were pleasant or not. These events and experiences have moulded us into our present selves. Yet they need not define us. We have a choice in how we journey forward in our lives. Accepting what has happened is not the same as saying it is acceptable that it took place. If we want to distance ourselves from something in the past, we can but we need to be intentional about i...t. Self-awareness is the key and the first step.
