History & Facts The origin of Lavender is believed to be from the Mediterranean, Middle East and India. Its history goes back some 2500 years. Lavender is a flowering plant of the mint family known for its beauty, its sweet floral fragrance and its multiple uses. The ancient Greeks called Lavender nardus, after the Syrian city of Naarda and was commonly called Nard. Lavender was one of the holy herbs used to prepare the Holy Essence and Nard, or ‘spikenard’ is mentioned in the bible in the ‘Song of Solomon’ among other places. Lavender derives its name from the Latin ‘lavare’ meaning ‘to wash. The Romans used Lavender to scent their baths, beds, clothes and even hair. They also discovered its medicinal properties. 09.01.2022 Our beautiful funeral home is located in Mudgeeraba, we love that the area has so much history. After a large storm some years ago the historical Old Dip Crossing Bridge was destroyed by flood waters. We decided to make our way down to the bridge only to find lots of original timber floating. Everything. One of those pieces of timber is proudly on display in our funeral home. The Old Dip Crossing Bridge... The old ‘Dip Crossing’ Bridge and Road remnants are historically significant as the first public bridge crossing of this section of Mudgeeraba Creek. The bridge remnants are the remains of the 1936 Main Roads Commission B class bridge type built to alleviate the difficulties of crossing the creek during flood. The addition of this timber bridge and road surface to Mudgeeraba-Springbrook Road by the then Main Roads Commission created a more reliable transport route during creek inundation and made an influential contribution in opening up the transport routes of the district. Examined in conjunction with other historical sources, the bridge and road remnants have the potential to yield information that will contribute to a greater understanding of the design, form, materials and engineering features of early 20th century timber bridge and road construction. Although the bridge and road structures are remnants, the structure continues to demonstrate characteristics of Main Roads Commission B class bridges and road construction. Prior to the bridge construction, the part of the creek spanned by the bridge was known as the ‘Dip Crossing’ and used by local residents to traverse the creek. During times of flood, the creek became impassable at the crossing and the travelling public would use Hardy’s private bridge and track further downstream to negotiate the crossing. The construction of the public bridge greatly improved the dip crossing and removed the onus on private landholders to provide a thoroughfare for traffic during times of flooding. We have many Mr Lincoln roses growing outside our chapel, they may not produce lots of roses but the flowers they bloom have the most incredible perfume. Below is a little history on the rose. History of Mr Lincoln Roses: This dark red hybrid tea rose was bred back in 1964 in the Unites States by the partnership Swim & Weeks that was formed back in the 1950's. Herb Swim and Ollie Weeks were both longtime rose breeders who decided to start their own company to continue their passion. Mister Lincoln roses grow pretty tall for their class growing anywhere between 3 feet and 7 feet depending on pruning and growing conditions. In the 1950s, the Exchange was sold and eventually renamed the Wallaby Hotel. At the time of opening in 1922, the new hall was claimed to be the largest public hall in the South Coast District. It certainly was the centre of attention on an evening in September 1936, when they switched on the first electric light in Mudgeeraba. Mr Faine threw the switch. The old ‘Dip Crossing’ Bridge and Road remnants are historically significant as the first public bridge crossing of this section of Mudgeeraba Creek. The bridge remnants are the remains of the 1936 Main Roads Commission B class bridge type built to alleviate the difficulties of crossing the creek during flood. The addition of this timber bridge and road surface to Mudgeeraba-Springbrook Road by the then Main Roads Commission created a more reliable transport route during creek inundation and made an influential contribution in opening up the transport routes of the district. Examined in conjunction with other historical sources, the bridge and road remnants have the potential to yield information that will contribute to a greater understanding of the design, form, materials and engineering features of early 20th century timber bridge and road construction. Although the bridge and road structures are remnants, the structure continues to demonstrate characteristics of Main Roads Commission B class bridges and road construction. Prior to the bridge construction, the part of the creek spanned by the bridge was known as the ‘Dip Crossing’ and used by local residents to traverse the creek. During times of flood, the creek became impassable at the crossing and the travelling public would use Hardy’s private bridge and track further downstream to negotiate the crossing. The construction of the public bridge greatly improved the dip crossing and removed the onus on private landholders to provide a thoroughfare for traffic during times of flooding. 03.01.2022 A Man who drove students for 55 years to be buried in special school bus casket. A beloved school bus driver in Minnesota is being remembered by his community in a very special way. Glen Paul Davis was a lifelong resident and farmer in Grand Meadow, a town with about 1,140 residents. He died at the age of 88 on February 15. He became a school bus driver for Grand Meadow Schools in 1949, and he drove the bus for 55 years. He drove multiple generations of local families, and th...e kids lovingly called him Glennie. He was proud to say in all those years of driving he never had an accident. About 20 years ago, Davis made a joke about being buried in a school bus casket. His friend and funeral home owner Jim Hindt turned his idea into reality. Hindt surprised Davis with a school bus casket six years ago. A family friend painted it school bus yellow, and his niece added the details. It says Grand Meadow Schools ISD #495 on the side. Hindt wasnt sure if he would actually want to use it, but Davis loved it. He showed pictures of the casket to everyone. He was a great friend, a special man and a wonderful asset to our community, our schools especially, Jim Hindt told FOX59.
