20.01.2022 Believe Me! HEART ATTACK IGNORED The daughter of a man who spent four days "telling everybody" at his aged care home he was having a heart attack says nurses and staff at the his Melbourne facility dismissed his chest pains, convincing him it was "all in his head" and assuring alarmed relatives there was nothing to worry about. Daughter Rhonda McIntosh told the Aged Care Royal Commission that the staff told Mr Sheldon he was anxious and paranoid, and was not having a heart at...tack as his blood pressure was in the normal range. She told the Canberra hearing her father was given Panadol for the pain and nobody at the Melbourne facility suggested a doctor or ambulance. Ms McIntosh took her father to a doctor, who called an ambulance to take him to hospital where he was diagnosed as having a heart attack that was still continuing. She also shared concerns about how the facility handled her father's series of falls in July, but said his care had improved after the 83-year-old moved into another aged care home in September.
