24.01.2022 COLOUR TIP #1 When choosing colours it is important to understand the colour wheel. Colour can have a significant impact on the feeling within a room and can easily change the mood from warm to cool just using the wrong shades in the wrong areas. See how this room feels cosy and warm. That's because warm colours and whites have been used to create that ambiance. ... Here are some quick things to remember when choosing colours for your space: 1. Be conscious of whether you are choosing Warm or Cool primary colours of red, yellow and blue. This is the colour temperature. 2. Secondary colours are mixes between two primaries- in betweens- greens, oranges & purples. 3. Tints have white added to the main hue to make them lighter and more pastel until they approach white. 4. When judging whites look for the undertone- that is the underlying hue (colour) 5. Shades are colours with black, grey or darks (blue & brown) added to create greys. Find out more: https://www.acolourid.com.au/blog-colour 6. Again, when judging grey tones for interior colour, look for the underlying hue (colour & temperature) as a guide to what will work in your space. Try and keep these tips in mind next time you are looking for a colour to put on the wall. Better yet, I am happy to help. Simply contact me at [email protected] and I can guide you through the process of choosing the right colours for your home to create the feeling you want. #acolourid #interiordesignsydney #interiordesign #Colour #colourwheel #shades #tones #warmwhites #colortemperature #ambiance #primarycolors #secondarycolors #designguide #design #colormood
24.01.2022 This post came across my desk the other day from Victorian heating suppliers Castworks. I find it interesting how the structure of the wall support enables the heater to be elevated to eye level. They have used Skamotec 225 building board. As a result, the stacking of rectangles is accentuated, resulting in layering of the interior architecture. Enlivening yet refined and sophisticated. A look I like.
24.01.2022 Inextricable links between interior and exterior is what can be so wonderful about the interior experiencein Australia. Pict ked up Josh Harris' comments in Architcture AU. ' In a 2017 Architecture Australia review of Pirramimma, Angelo Candalepas wrote that the design poetically explored the relationship between building and landscape, with moments of intensity and quietness, light and shadow heightening the real in the everyday experience.... Green, furtive landscaped r...ooms are interrupted by the house, so that the garden is seen as an object with many spaces and the house as a garden with its shadowed rooms, he wrote. 24.01.2022 We love this kitchen design by Jonathan Richards of Richards Stanich for his Darlinghurst residence. Photo from The Wood Room, North Narabeen. They made the beautiful table. Cabinet finish looks like Maxi Ply- Lucca Panel. All the latest trends in materiality.
24.01.2022 Budget Bathroom Beautification; Tips for small spaces. We recently complete this investment property upgrade- Read our story here- 1.Always keep a base of white wall tiles to the ceiling in small bathrooms to maximise the feeling of spaciousness. 2.It helps to use contrasting coloured tiles for the shower recess to create it's own zone however make sure they are pale neutral in colour, some texture is better. 3.The floor and shower recess should be the same tile (di...fferent size permissible) to increase flow. 4.Keep colour tonal and to a minimium in the joinery so that all the cabinetry appears the same colour. 5. Use modern stream-lined fixtures for a harmonious uncomplicated look. The client and project associates were thrilled with our successful transformation of this bathroom laundry space that was cramped, pokey and storage challenged, into a place that's a please to be and work in.

In a federation home, contemporary design elements are introduced and art works with colour & organic shapes express flair . Very sophisticated yet funky elements are used as design techniques drawing the traditional and contemporary together. So Unique!! The suspended fireplace in the lounge room catches your eye. 23.01.2022 I can't wait to visit the Capitol when it opens and I'm next down in Melbourne. This amazing geometric decoration on columns, ceilings and almost every facet of the building is so enriching. Cultural capital it it's best- Thank you RMIT and Six Degrees Architects.
22.01.2022 "The Spruce Moose'' bar project by Sydney Style Interiors was recently completed in Shell Harbour. Notice how the bluish grey tone of the wall colour sets off the deep caramel leather bucket back rests. The designers have used principals of complementary colour harmonisation. This feeling of warmth is enhanced in the prints and lighting by continuing this colour theme. A very simple interior, highly contemporary yet it maintains historical connections with the architecture.
21.01.2022 I really love the use of large sliding plantation shutters -externally. It make so much difference to the internal space. Preserving the timber shiplap of original house gives wonderful character to the new extension internally. The glazed ceiling section permits light to wash down the reinstated timber cladding as if it were an external face. This prevents it from looking heavy and over bearing.

20.01.2022 In recent years, the UNSW Book Shop went through a transformation from dark, dull and dreary to light, inviting and nurturing. Designed by SJB, Senior Associate Monica Edwards describes the project - "UNSW had a vision for the bookshop to be a beacon; the campus honeypot. The space is separated into 3 distinct zones so you can meander your way through. Light timbers have been used in the bespoke joinery to lighten up the shelves and tall shelves cover the walls with small s...helving units in between to create the illusion of larger spaces. 19.01.2022 It is interesting that, although progress has been made, these barriers that I experienced in the early 90's have persisted. My architectural training is of continual value in my now chosen profession where a lot women tend to cluster. It's so wonderful for women coming through the profession now, and for myself, that structural imbalance is being studied, recognised and hopefully adressed.
18.01.2022 At last the Victorian Government is taking the lead on addressing sustainability issues with large developments. That's where it will make a difference. If only NSW would understand the need here as there is such massive development going on in this state and more planned inthe next 10 years.
17.01.2022 Gallery of South Australia retrospective exhibition of Interior design. Warm and playful colours being set off against each other. Forward looking we are discovering our Australian visual language leaving the austere behind.
17.01.2022 Latest Kitchen in the Sydney City from A Colour ID. This came up really well. A few details to finish off. The paint colours, laminates and veneers have all been carefully balanced for warmth, luminosity and to enhance the owners fabulous collection of art.
16.01.2022 Amazing Lighting Effects! 14.01.2022 The curvatures of the ceiling and walls create softness and ease out the eye with the unrendered interior brickwork I love adding texture and warmth as well. The whole interior, though compact appears light with the use of rails, built in open shelving, voids connecting levels and white framework. Woolley truely understood interior space. 14.01.2022 Look, the Vic Government does have a conscience. We COULD do something similar in NSW. Architecture at it's best serving the people. Congratulations Sophie Drying!
13.01.2022 We love the use of contrasting coloured timber and shapes with glass inset panels, set off against each other in this architect’s office. Designed by Paul Barnett and Team, Paul is a specialist with finely wrought joinery, and loves working in timber. Look at the elegance of the table shapes and insert fillets. 13.01.2022 What an interesting project supported by Victoria regional Tourism and Phillip Island nature Park. 350 capacity doesn't sound too big although I'm not an ecologist or aware of just how sensitive this area is. It looks like the design encompasses a quantum of warm natural finishes in spaces that are designed to activate and keep people moving. So glad to see interior- exterior architecture and environmental priorities coming together in this way.
12.01.2022 We love the perforated timber ceilings and orange and ginger carpet. A truly inspired design from Smart Design Studio, concurrently sensitive and efficient. The realisation of this interior makes sense of current 1970s interior furnishing trends, projecting the recent past intoo the present.
11.01.2022 new develpment in Surry Hills by Woods Bagot and a developer with appreciation for design and people's needs reads well. In addition it contributes to layering and depth the urban fabric as though it could have been here for decades.
11.01.2022 OUTDOOR DESIGN TIP #1 Unsure where to put things in your backyard or outdoor entertaining space? Connecting things visually in stages is important to layering a space, so think in terms of plants or features which jump in height.... Use changes in level if you have the space or stagger the height of your plants in a smaller area to create a sense of layering. 11.01.2022 We love this lighting design. Residential project NSW by EDH Group Architects with Special Lights from Surry Hills Sydney. Image credit: photographer Shot By Grace. Excellent lighting should be incorporated at the beginning of the design project to achieve twinkling textures and sparkling reflectance that illuminates spaces without glare. Relatively low levels of ambient light are good for us and with which we are able to negotiate our way through space. Our modern life styles are far removed from natural rhythms and environments, we hanker for calming interiors conducive to thought, work, creativity and rest.
11.01.2022 I love the Gorgeous simplicity and clean lines. What makes this so special is the warm of the brickwork. The interior can carry the bright orange arm chairs due to the massive skylight flooding the interior with light.
11.01.2022 It's winter time and we spend a lot more time in our homes. Here is a little assessment tool to work out if yours is able to be adapted to work for you or whether it's best to move.
09.01.2022 We loved this furnishing project. The client is so elegant, with her own furniture brought from a previous federation residence, the challenge was to create atmosphere and blend it into the modernist 1990s apartment she relocated to. We are all thrilled with the results.
08.01.2022 Bringing the landscape in. Josh Harris says the in a 2017 Architecture Australia review of Pirramimma, Angelo Candalepas wrote that the design poetically explored the relationship between building and landscape, with moments of intensity and quietness, light and shadow heightening the real in the everyday experience. Green, furtive landscaped rooms are interrupted by the house, so that the garden is seen as an object with many spaces and the house as a garden with its shadowed rooms, he wrote. 08.01.2022 Classic, eclectic design making a come back. #mansionglobal Location: Upper West Side, Manhattan Price: $12.9 million... After languishing on the market for nearly three years, a historic townhouse on the Upper West Side of Manhattan has just emerged from a modern makeover with a new price tag of $12.9 million.
08.01.2022 FABRIC TIP #4 There are 4 design trends in fabrics that appeared significant and take us into 2021. When selecting a look for your home, run with one of these ideas that sits well with you. With Thanks to James Dunlop textiles. Read the whole article here, https://jamesdunloptextiles.com///2019-2020-trend-forecast Nuturing Calm: Textiles made from natural fabrics or that immitate the look of natural fabrics. They are often sheer, or may feature texture. There are many nutral... such fabrics made from polyester blends that immitate a natural look and have great drape without the price tag. Tensal is a wonderful fibre. This asthetic avoids loud patterns and strong colour. On the Contrary: Optimistic Glamour emphasises bold colour, strong pattern and shape to create individuality. It takes the most from plush fabrics like velvets and jacqaurd weaves in creating statement pieces for curtains or furniture. The object is an uplifting feeling created by environments of concentrated visual immersion. Back to Nature: The idea of bringing the outdoors inside has been re-invigorated from 1970s with wallpapers and textiles featuring bamboo prints and lush tropical flora & fauna. This trend has gained momentum from the wellness movement which has been sweeping the western world for many years now. Ethnic artisan: fabrics with patterns and prints that evoke the hand worked materiality of indigenous peoples around the globe have gained in popularity. 07.01.2022 This gorgeous medallion blind came out of a recent project for a new family home as did the curtains. The curtains are a linen mix from Charles Parsons with extremely soft handle. The client's brief called for warm, earthy and inviting whilst maintaining clean lines and precision. Welcome use of colour with earth tones although keeping the palette resistricted is important. We achieved both with these two.
07.01.2022 Simon Pendle says in this project that interiors were of greater consequence than the exterior. The philosophy was one of creating an interior with presence- a force to it- as a highly developed concept. This leads to a refinement that goes way beyond decoration yet informs all furnishing decisions. We would certainly endorse this approach in our practice.
06.01.2022 Love the concept of more height- creating volume- and keeping the footprint as small as possible. It encourages behavioural and environmental efficiency.
06.01.2022 Ishizuka restaurant by Russell & George. Wonderful diaphanous egg shell wall enclosure. Something out of the box. Inspiring and very refined!! Photo by Felix Forest, as published in Artichoke December 2018.
06.01.2022 OUTDOOR DESIGN TIP #2 As humans we need to feel secure and protected. Is Your verandah exposed to the street? Are you unable to use your outdoor space due to neighbourly overlooking? Building half height or low walls with pillars, even if there is no roof, creates a sense of enclosure to the orientation we are facing to make a space that we will want to use. Building walls can be used to advantage with textured or coloured finishes. Create walls which can form the back of sto...rage spaces, pergolas with vegetation, vegetable beds or other planting areas. Overlooking issues on your verandah, can be solved with perforated metal panels widely used for screening. It is important to soften the hard surfaces with planting and textured art features. Contact me at [email protected] to have a chat about how we can style your outdoor space. #acolourid #outdoorlife #outdoordesign #functionalliving #interiordesignsydney #interiordesign #australiandesign #outdoorentertaining #backyardgarden #entertainingathome #outdoorlivingspace #OutdoorLiving #landscapedesign #summerliving
06.01.2022 OUTDOOR DESIGN TIP #3 Isn't it great to relax with a view... Some of us are able to have a SPACE oriented towards of a view of landscape or seascape. Many won’t be able to have this naturally occurring, so we have to create one.... Work out where north or east are and face your furniture and plants towards these faces.Make the most of the northern orientation and ensure shielding structures for wind and rain like Furniture, walls, and planting windbreaks are placed protecting the courtyard or verandah to the south and west. In Australia, shade is more important than water protection. Not every outdoor space needs a roof. Often a portion of roofing shelter can work for rainy weather. Depending upon the number of people who usually use the space a simple shade structure extension to an awning or exterior grade umbrellas work well, allowing ventilation at the same time. Let's turn your outdoor space into your relaxing oasis. Contact me at [email protected]. 04.01.2022 We are so satisfied with work in this bedroom in progress for a home in East Lindfield for a Young lady about to start uni. We replaced roller blinds with sheers for privacy during day time study. Advised client on a plain oatmeal bed covering similar to this one. She has gone for style and quality. I love it!
04.01.2022 Looks like some insightful development proposed. Let's hope the necessary and projected funding comes through so that we can benefit culturally and environmentally from a working, substantive model of reconciliation.
02.01.2022 We transformed a one bedroom Investment unit. The bathroom needed a facelift; the kitchen was in good condition so we worked with the existing cupboards and benchtop to create a harmonious contemporary lift . We recommended and supplied new blinds throughout and did the entire design of colours and bathroom.
