25.01.2022 Dear Shore Care Patients, Please be aware that due to the current COVID-19 situation, we will be SUSPENDING SCRIPT CLINICS effective immediately. The walk-in nature of these clinics compromises adherence to the social-distancing guidelines formulated to guide the community's safety. Furthermore, we are unable to appropriately screen patients prior to attendance. We understand that this may cause inconvenience, but have made this decision with more severe consequences in mi...nd. Should you REQUIRE A SCRIPT, you will be required to make a FORMAL APPOINTMENT, as stipulated by the Australian Medical Association. Please be assured that WE ARE DOING OUR BEST TO CONSIDER OTHER ALTERNATIVES, but for now, this is a change which must be made. We appreciated your understanding, especially in relation to being considerate of our staff as we deal with the increased pressures and demands at this time. 24.01.2022 Discovery Community we NEED your help, please! Somehow we need to get our receptionists behind a higher reception hob including perspex above. Our desk depth is only about 600mm deep. Delivery of a whole new reception desk won't be possible until next week at least, and even then we'll need to get the perspex installed. May we borrow your insight and have your suggestions please?

24.01.2022 69% of Australians aged 65-69 are missing out on their free Pneumococcal vaccine. Pneumococcal disease is a bacterial infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, sometimes known as pneumococcus. Most people carry pneumococcus in their nose and throat, where the bacteria do not cause any symptoms. However, sometimes the bacteria grow and spread to other parts of the body and thats when you become sick. Immunisation is recommended for people aged 65 years and over, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and over and those with a serious underlying medical condition. Call Shore Care Family Practice for more information

16.01.2022 World Mental Health day falls during the month of October. At Shore Care Family Practice we are committed to helping those who may be suffering from a Mental Health Condition. Stigma around mental illness due to misunderstanding or prejudice remains an issue in Australia, delaying or preventing people from wanting or feeling able to seek help, and impacting adversely on their lives. Misconceptions and misrepresentations about those experiencing mental illness are damaging to... peoples lives. They may include references to people affected as being scary, comical, incompetent, weak or hopeless and can appear anywhere, from in the media and the arts to conversations we have at work, school or home. The reality is the vast majority of people affected by mental illness are able to lead independent and contributing lives in the community, with the right treatment and support. With one in five Australians affected, they form part of our close circles of family, friends and colleagues, and interact with us in our communities every day. Its time to look at mental illness in a different light a positive light. If you would like to discuss possible stress, depression, or anxiety with us, or any other aspect of your wellbeing, please come in and chat to our friendly nurses at Shore Care Family Practice.

09.01.2022 The coronavirus is most likely to spread from person-to-person through: direct close contact with a person while they are infectious close contact with a person with a confirmed infection who coughs or sneezes, or touching objects or surfaces (such as door handles or tables) contaminated from a cough or sneeze from a person with a confirmed infection, and then touching your mouth or face. Most infections are only transmitted by people when they have symptoms. These can ...include fever, a cough, sore throat, tiredness and shortness of breath. How can we help prevent the spread of coronavirus? Practising good hand and sneeze/cough hygiene is the best defence against most viruses. You should: wash your hands frequently with soap and water, before and after eating, and after going to the toilet cover your cough and sneeze, dispose of tissues, and use alcohol-based hand sanitiser and if unwell, avoid contact with others (stay more than 1.5 metres from people). Here at Shore Care Family Practice, our patients who feel they may have symptoms of the Coronavirus are asked to call and speak with one of our nurses. We ask that you do not enter our building, however we will come and assess you in your vehicle. Testing for Coronavirus is not currently available in the Agnes Water area, there are two testing centres set up in Bundaberg. Specific requirements are in place for people who have returned from a country or region that is at high or moderate risk for COVID-19 or think may they have been in close contact with a confirmed case of coronavirus. Go to www.health.gov.au/covid19-travellers for the list of at-risk countries and isolation requirements. The health advice is changing regularly and the team at Shore Care are happy to give the latest advice over the phone to our patients who have concerns. Please phone us on 49022018

09.01.2022 National Diabetes Week falls in the month of July, and at Shore Care family practice we will be focusing on Diabetes throughout the whole month. There are more than 1.1 million Australians living with type 2 diabetes, and more than 215,000 Queenslanders living with the condition. On top of this, there are almost half a million Australians who have developed type 2 diabetes but don't know it. That's because type 2 diabetes can be "silent" and develop without any obvious sympto...ms. When type 2 diabetes is undiagnosed or untreated, there is the danger of complications such as vision loss and blindness, kidney failure, nerve damage and heart disease occurring. If you are diagnosed with Diabetes we will be reviewing your care plan throughout the month of July, and following up with you for any checks that may be due. For diabetes screening, please see the nurse on duty at a time that is convenient for you.
