18.01.2022 Fresh may be best but in your bag, it’s the pits. Travellers from Timor-Leste were left with lighter bags after meeting our biosecurity team at Darwin Internati...onal Airport. Our officers found fresh ginger, fresh unidentified leaves, diseased lime leaf, fresh lemon grass, other plant material and dried beef. While some goods were claimed to be for medicinal purposes, it doesn’t change the biosecurity risk. Fresh leaves can include diseases like scales, blights and cankers and has the potential to carry a number of arthropod pests that pose a high biosecurity risk to Australia. Fresh ginger can harbor yam scale and burrowing nematodes while meat items could carry Foot-and-Mouth Disease or African swine fever. Make sure you are biosecurity aware before you travel to Australia. Don’t bring risk items into the country and declare any food , plant material (including wood) or animal products on your Incoming Passenger Card. 18.01.2022 Durian Musang King and Malaysia Food product feast was held at the High Commission of Malaysia in Canberra in conjunction with the cooperation of Agriculture Counsellor Office Sydney and Malaysia Festival Committee. Musang King Durians sold during the event as well as other Malaysian product such as anchovies, instant milk tea and coffee, biscuits and frozen fish stick crackers or known as ‘keropok lekor’. Such promotional program is needed to raise awareness of Malaysian food product availability in local area.
