18.01.2022 Cane toads are found in NSW and Queensland, but Victoria remains free from an established population of this terrible toad. We don’t want them in Victoria because: - Cane toads have few natural predators in Australia. Native wildlife and domestic pets that consume cane toads can become very ill, due to the poisonous substance secreted by the toad as a defense mechanism. They can also cause harm to people, if they come into contact with this poison - Cane toads eat large num...bers of honeybees, creating a management problem for beekeepers, and impacting colony numbers. They also prey on other native fauna, decimating populations - Cane toads compete for food with other native species like lizards, frogs and other insect eating species - Cane toads can carry disease, that can be transmitted to native frogs and fishes If you think you’ve found a cane toad, do not kill it (in case it’s a native species). Place the animal in a small container, photograph the animal and forward the images to [email protected], or call the Customer Contact Centre on 136 186. https://agriculture.vic.gov.au//cane-toad/native-frog-or-e Department of Environment, Land, Water and Planning #MissionBiosecurity

11.01.2022 Having a clear fire plan will help horse owners to establish their priorities and give them time to practice their plan, especially if it includes floating horses to a safer location before high-risk days. Owners should prepare a ‘safer’ area for horses this area should be as large as possible with minimum pasture and vegetation and have secure boundary fencing. Ideally, include a dam or secure water source not reliant on electric pumps. Internal gates can be opened for more space but horses need to be taught they can move through freely so they can escape even when highly stressed. More info can be found at https://go.vic.gov.au/qHzfL1 and https://go.vic.gov.au/FdVapd and comprehensive planning information and checklists are contained in the fact sheet: https://go.vic.gov.au/zXps2M

06.01.2022 Australian plague locusts are a native insect that when present in large numbers pose a serious threat to pastures, crops, horticulture, gardens, parks and sporting grounds. If you find any locusts on your land, report them to Agriculture Victoria on 136 186. For information on locusts, visit agriculture.vic.gov.au/locusts
