23.01.2022 This year we launched a new CONNECT regional hub in Collie - and the calibre of these innovative businesses and their engagement throughout the program has been amazing! One of those participants was Florian Popp from Gemtek Group who was selected for iDriveWA, a solution to WA's unique challenge of "long roads and a short grid" through a statewide, reliable, locally owned & managed Electric Vehicle (EV) charging network. During the 6 months of CONNECT we watched as Floria...n and the Gemtek team worked hard on opportunities to grow iDriveWA. They presented investor pitches at numerous events including South West Angels Pitch Night and the Regional Innovation Showcase. Florian spoke about CONNECT - Programs like this are critical to building local networks and businesses in our vast state and across the distances we face between regional communities and global markets. Congratulations to Florian and the Gemtek team on their achievements this year including holding WA's first Electric Vehicle conference - iDrive:Towards Zero Emissions Conference and Exhibition & Test Drive Day, and the Gemtek Racing Team being the first EV to win a Targa Rally in WA! www.gemtek.com.au

17.01.2022 There is no mistaking there is a buzz about Collie at the moment. Yes the government is focusing funding efforts there to prepare for the inevitable coal mine closures and create new industries, but the people and small businesses of Collie are the ones really driving the change themselves and looking to reinvent the town. Our Collie CONNECT Innovation hub launched yesterday at Slay Space with 9 incredible businesses selected for the 6 month program: Gumfire , TraaVerse, Geo-...Fly, Gemtek, Dam Fish Consulting , Enhancing Learning, Adventure Connections , Harris River Estate Winery and Beelagu Moort. These businesses ranged from early stage ventures, such as Geo Fly making sustainable concrete from fly ash mining waste, through to existing businesses looking to commercialise new products, such as Harris River Estate/Beelagu Mort collaboration for new gin products using botanicals linked to the 6 Noongar seasons. What do these businesses have in common? They are led by highly motivated individuals focused not only on their individual business success, but have a passion for Collie and seeing sustainable industries thrive in their town. Thanks to Roban Clarke for attending the networking pitch session representing major sponsor Department of Industry, Science, Energy and Resources.
