24.01.2022 We're interested in your experience... Do pulses (in this case lentils) need an application of nitrogen in soils with low background N? Site (Port Broughton) is responsive to P for wheat South Australian Grain Industry Trust project AS219.... See the distinct colour effect with the application of 18 kg N/ha (40P as MAP) vs 4.5 kg N/ha (10P as MAP).

24.01.2022 With some rain happening in parts of SA it's important to consider mineralisation in the soil. Yield and NDVI maps can help, but strategic soil testing in low production areas will make your N decisions more accurate. Soil testing within 6-8 weeks of sowing will give you accurate N levels for sowing. ... Time to get out there!

18.01.2022 NDVI is useful to a certain growth phase, remembering it’s a measurement of green vegetation. In this example from our South Australian Grain Industry Trust project near Port Broughton, NDVI is useful in picking up growth response early (GS30). For later periods however, the sensor is picking up delayed maturity caused by low phosphorous. This is generating an appearance of a negative response despite the nitrogen being balanced. ... SAGIT funded project AS219.

18.01.2022 It was great to be part of the Hart Field-Site Group Inc and present on our Grains Research and Development Corporation soil nutrition project. We had 171 people attend our 3 sessions - great to see so many people interested in #soilnutrition

18.01.2022 Sean Mason visited the @AgsolutionsOz lime trial north of Mallala with University of Adelaide PhD candidate Ruby Hume and Associate Professor Luke Mosely recently. The @the_GRDC research is investigating if near infrared technology can trace lime movement down soil profiles. This country, due to its calcareous nature is typically alkaline (high pH), it’s interesting to see acidity starting to pop up in some sections of the paddock.

17.01.2022 You know your paddock better than anyone... where are your best and worst performing areas? That's where you should be targeting soil sampling!
