24.01.2022 Picture this: An 81 yr old goes to their GP with shoulder pain and limited range (cannot lift her shoulder beyond 20 degrees). He says "Mrs. M, here are some painkillers. You will be alright." Nil effect (no surprise!) Mrs. M goes to another health professional, and after an assessment (apparently), he says "Mrs. M, you are 81. You are not going to fly at this age. Do not worry about your shoulder." Two years later, Mrs. M meets another health professional visiting their home... (surprise, it is me :-)). She is now worried about her scoliosis and associated back pain, for which she sought intervention. During the assessment, when asked about the shoulder history, Mrs. M casually stated she is aware that she has to live with her shoulder like this now. Fast forward three months, and now Mrs. M has gone back to her favorite activity, swimming (she is superexcited that pools are open). She can manage full backstroke, butterfly stroke and all sorts of different tricks with no pain. So proud of you Mrs. M. You are an inspiration. #health #exercise #inspiration #physio

20.01.2022 PELVIC FLOOR Pelvic floor is the most underrated part of your health system. It is equally important for men and women. Follow these simple steps and you are set. 1. Identify the muscles that create your pelvic floor 2. Squeeze your pelvic floor muscles, hold for three seconds and relax. 3. Repeat as many times as you can.... Pro tip: Perform a few repetitions at every traffic light if you are driving, or at every stop if you are taking public transport.

11.01.2022 Physiotherapy plays an important role in stroke rehab. They use a variety of assessment tools and measures to determine the most effective treatment plan. Resea...rch suggests that physiotherapy is highly effective in retraining functional movements. This may include task-specific training, where specific tasks are practised according to your ability and goals, and assisted treadmill training where you engage in high repetitions of stepping practise to relearn walking. Research is ongoing in determining what dose, frequency and mode of therapies works best. #StrokeWeek Stroke Foundation https://choose.physio/your-condition/stroke-recovery
