23.01.2022 One of the most lit stones around. Paraíba tourmaline was discovered in Paraíba, Brazil in 1982, although gem-quality material wasn’t found until 1988. Colored ...by copper and manganese, its color ranges from a vivid, neon blue to green to all the colors in between! Tourmalines of this color range were also discovered in Nigeria and Mozambique in the 2000s. Although these finds were not from Paraíba, Brazil, they are still called Paraíba tourmaline! https://bit.ly/2Fv7j1D Image 1 shows a Mozambican Paraíba tourmaline. 23.01.2022 Dear customers For some very strange reason which is beyond us, Facebook does not upload our posts . We have tried to post the Thursday’s special on Thursday-and it still hasn’t been uploaded onto our page. We get a notice saying we’ll let you know when your post is ready. The same happened just now with our post. The mysteries of Facebook.... Just letting you know we are still here and still making beautiful jewellery. With or without Facebook!

22.01.2022 SOLID BLACK AISTRALIAN OPAL AND ??? The vibrant side stones in this setting are- can you try and guess? They are gorgeous whatever they are-that’s for sure!

21.01.2022 BOULDER OPAL EARRINGS Y. Brought her own Opals to us, asking to make her something different and unique in earrings. We took the diamonds out of her ring, and combined them into these striking, asymmetrical Opal earrings. Each Opal is so individual and different from all others-it was so exciting to match them in a dramatic and soft design. Just beautiful.

20.01.2022 Rise and shine. The Sunrise Ruby - mined in Mogok, Myanmar (Burma) - weighs 25.59 carats and displays an even, highly-saturated "pigeon's blood" red. Sold for m...ore than $30 million in 2015 by Sotheby's, it is the most expensive ruby ever sold. Myanmar has produced rubies for centuries and is one of the world's most famous ruby producers. Many of the miners there search for the one stone that just might change their lives. Image 2 shows the short, reflective, platelet-like silk inclusions typical of Mogok rubies. 07.01.2022 BEAUTIFUL CUSTOM- MADE DIAMOND RING. Our customer wanted her round brilliant cut diamond to be set in an unusual design, so it does not look like an engagement ring. She picked a similar design from our collection, which really appealed to her, and we created this ring-similar but different-with her diamond. 18 k rose and white gold. You are welcome to embark on a similar path in creating a beautiful piece for yourself! Come and see us in our Bunda Street studio. 02 6262 5053

07.01.2022 Why are green diamonds green? It’s not an easy question to answer due to their incredible rarity. But after examining over 50,000 naturally colored greenish dia...monds, including more than 9,000 pure green diamonds in the lab in the past decade, GIA scientists have confirmed that many of them got their color from exposure to radioactive minerals and fluids in the earth’s crust. Over thousands to millions of years, radiation produced by the decay of isotopes of elements such as uranium and thorium (present in minerals or dissolved in geological fluids) changed the diamond's structure by displacing carbon atoms to create vacant atomic positions. These vacancies caused the diamond to absorb the red part of the light, while nitrogen-related defects often found in natural diamonds absorb the blue part of light; this combination allows primarily green light to be seen. This particular beauty is the 5.03 carat Aurora Green diamond. Graded Fancy Vivid Green by GIA, it is one of the most famous green diamonds in the world and is currently owned by Chow Tai Fook. 06.01.2022 A super spiral cut, color-change garnet. These pyrope garnets from Morogoro, Tanzania change color from purplish pink under incandescent light (Image 1) to pu...rple under daylight-equivalent light (Image 2). This phenomenon is believed to be caused by higher than normal amounts of vanadium and chromium. The larger the stone, the more noticeable the color change. The super spiral cut stone weighs 15.25 carats and comes from the same material as the 42.42 carat rough crystal next to it. Color-change garnets of this size, intensity and clarity are incredibly rare. Learn more: https://bit.ly/2LhNGwy (Images 1-2) Photo: Robert Weldon/GIA. Courtesy: Meg Berry. See more

02.01.2022 OLD BECOMES NEW One of the nicest things about gold is that you can give an old fashioned, tired looking ring a brand new , updated younger look. Helen brought us her mother’s yellow gold and diamond solid Opal ring which she never wore because of its outdated design, and asked us to revive it. Give it a new, modern look. Well, we did! If you also have some pieces which you for some reason just don’t wear please bring them in and let’s have a chat about making you an heirloom that will last for many generations to come!

02.01.2022 Look at this trove - treasures untold. The Spanish ship Atocha sank during a storm in 1622 on its way from Colombia to Spain. In its hold was a vast treasure tr...ove of emeralds, silver and gold that got scattered across the ocean floor, lost for more than three hundred years. In 1985, American treasure hunter Mel Fisher found the Atocha after 16 years of scouring the ocean floor. He recovered more than 40 tons of gold and silver, not to mention several chests of Colombian emeralds. A few rough emerald crystals and jewelry were sent to GIA to examine. GIA described the emeralds as likely Colombian in origin, transparent to translucent, medium to dark green to slightly bluish green. Some of the emeralds have a chalky, yellow-green fluorescence, possibly caused by seawater seeping into surface-breaking fractures in the emeralds. Among the jewels that GIA examined are this emerald cross rosary (image 1) and this modern necklace holding a gold coin from the Atocha (image 2).
